How to unlock the Easier Said than Done achievement in Dirt Rally - Definitive Guide

To unlock this achievement you need to lodge a time for any Online Event (Daily, Weekly or Monthly) that places you in the top tier, or top ~33% of times, at the conclusion of the event. You can use any assists, cameras and automatic or manual transmission as you prefer, but please note that you only get one chance to lodge a time, you cannot repeat the event to improve on your time. However, for Daily events in particular, it is straightforward to replicate the conditions of the event in a custom event to practise as much as you need to beforehand.

From the Main Menu, choose Career, then Online Events. You will see up to six events currently running, likely with two Daily Stage events at the left of the screen. Decide on which daily event you wish to enter (or enter both), then on this screen, make a note of the Location, the Stage and the Vehicle, then press cn_X to go into the details of the event, and make a note of event type (Rally, Hillclimb or Rallycross) and time of day and weather conditions. Press cn_X again to view the Current Standings, and you will see the fastest times lodged so far. Ideally, wait until the event is at least a couple of hours old so that the fastest time is somewhat reliable and not likely to improve massively over the remaining hours of the event. As a very rough guide, estimate your target time for a top tier finish as approximately 120% of the current fastest time - for example, if the fastest time is 2:35, aim for 3:06 or better.

With these details on hand, back out to the Main Menu by pressing cn_B as many times as required, and then choose Custom Event, then the Event Type as you noted previously, and on the Event Setup screen, choose the Location as you noted previously, set Stages to 1 and Results Type to Personal Best Time (this will disable the AI Difficulty option), then press cn_A to continue. On the next screen, choose the Stage as you noted previously via cn_LSl/cn_LSr, and the Conditions as you noted previously via cn_LB/cn_RB, then press cn_A to then choose the Vehicle as you noted previously, and then press cn_A to load your matching Custom Event. After viewing the current standings, you may optionally setup your vehicle, before finally choosing Start Stage.

Race the stage and learn the layout as best you can, to set your first time. Your time will be stored and you can then restart the stage by pressing cn_B to try again and hopefully improve your time. Repeat as many times as you need to so that you can reliably finish the stage with few errors and in a time within the 120% of the current fastest time as you noted previously.

Finally, return to the Online Event and lodge your time. Returning to the Event Details screen, you will now see a coloured bar on the left of the screen which shows your anticipated tier (and approximate position within it) based on the current standings. The achievement will only unlock when you return to the Online Events screen after the event's time window has concluded, so make a note of how many hours are remaining and come back then (or any time later) to trigger the unlocking of Easier Said than Done.

Once each online event expires, all of its participants are ranked into three tiers: Bottom, Middle and Top with each tier consisting of 33.3% of participants. Naturally the top tier consists of the fastest 33.3%.

Finishing in the top tier can be quite difficult, as you are only presented with one run to set your best time with no option to restart. For this reason, it is often smarter to drive more cautiously than usual, as any mistakes at all will usually cost you too much time to finish in the top tier. Alternatively, you can look at the car and event combination prior to starting the event by pressing  and then practice on that combination in a Custom Event before giving it a go in the Online Events section.

Now relatively few people play the first part, so the trick may well work. If your performance is so-so and you don’t reach Tier 1, create fake accounts on the console and pass the tests from them as poorly as possible. More fakes - more chances to get into tier 1.
