How to unlock the Propane & Propane Accessories achievement in Dirt Rally - Definitive Guide
For the purposes of this Achievement a "Championship" refers to a Career Championship only. You cannot unlock this Achievement by winning a Custom Championship or one in any other game mode.
The easiest way to unlock this is to enter the Open Hillclimb Championship. If you are already at a higher difficulty level you can demote yourself by doing the following:
> Enter the Championship at your current difficulty level.
> Begin the first stage and Retire immediately.
> Back out to the Championships menu and press to access the Championship Standings.
> Press to abandon the current Championship; you will end up in last place and get demoted to a lower difficulty level.
> Repeat this process until you are in the Open Championship.
Once in the Open Hillclimb Championship you will take part in 3 events, 1 for each Sector of Pikes Peak (asphalt, day, sunny). You get 2 runs on each stage, if you win 2 of these events and finish on the podium in the 3rd you're almost guaranteed to win the Championship.
You will still need to drive reasonably quickly in order to beat the AI stage times. If you need help with that you can check out this run of the full course. It takes place in the rain but the lines and braking points are similar to what you can do in the dry.
Additionally, I recommend you complete this using a fully upgraded Peugeot 405. The car will need some of its inherent understeer tuned out but compared to the other 2 options it is a quick and stable car to use.

Don't know why the negative vote. It's a hard achievement like many others in this game and there is no real shortcut other than playing on Open difficulty. There's a reason so few people have these championship win achievements. +1 from me.

This Championship is actually easy if you invest some time in it. That is because the track, Pikes Peak, is fixed and not "unknown" like the stages of a Rally Championship. You need to give yourself some time to learn the track and get familiar with the car you're using. The fact that one of the most difficult and/or time consuming achievements of the game can be unlocked through this very championship says a lot about what you can gain by being patient and learning the track:
In terms of the car that you should use, the Peugeot 405 T16 is simply the better option. As all other championship-related achievements, you should try and upgrade it to its fullest potential before attempting this, which is something that you can do while practising on the track itself, saving you a few hours.
After upgrading the 405, make sure you're still in the Open level in the championship, as it will increase your chances of winning significantly, the same way that me and other people advise you to do in the other similar achievements of the game.
An interesting observation is that if you manage to set a negative delta (aka finish "in the green") on your first run, you can abandon the next one and you'll still be on top of the leaderboard, as for some reason the AI can never close the gap and surpass you on their second run.

The last paragraph is not always true , i had a 2 nd on the first track and 1st on second track , when i got to third track i placed the best time on my first run ...all green and about 10 secs in front, so i decided to abandon the 2nd run and the Ai did beat my first run causing me to place second and costing me the championship. Will try again later.
