How to unlock the The Only Way Is Up achievement in Dirt Rally - Definitive Guide
DiRT Daily events change every day at 11.00 BST, and a Hillclimb Daily will not appear every day. The car and stage location are pre-defined by Codemasters, so if you don't see a Pikes Peak event you'll have to check back again a day later to see if one shows up. Typically there is at least 1 Hillclimb Daily every week, sometimes more.
Finishing in Top Tier
"Top Tier" is defined as finishing in the top 33% of the overall leaderboard for a Daily event once it finishes. If 600 people complete a Daily event, you would need to finish in the Top 200 in order to be classified as a Top Tier finisher.
When an event ends and you next enter the Online Events section, your rewards will be given. It is at this point that the Achievement will unlock for you if you met the requirements.
Tips for Pikes Peak Hillblimb Dailies
It goes without saying that you need to know the course in order to set a quick time. It will come to you naturally as you take part in more and more Hillclimbs, to the point where you know what kinds of corners are coming up. Many corners on this circuit are blind so knowing the layout beforehand is a big advantage.
If you get a clean run (no Penalties or major spins/crashes) you will generally finish high up on the leaderboard. Don't be afraid to brake earlier than normal in order to navigate a corner safely; it's better to lose 1 second than 15 afterall.
Knowing the cars also helps. The Peugeot 205 is very twitchy and will punish you if you push it too hard. The Audi Quattro is a reliable and predictable car to drive, and the Peugeot 405 is both quick and stable, although it does have a tendency to understeer on asphalt.
The following is a Hillclimb Daily that I completed on April 10. It should give you a general idea of how to approach each corner, with minor changes to be made depending on the weather/surface you're driving on.
Bugged Achievement for Early Unlockers:
If you completed a Hillclimb Daily before April 11, 2016 and finished in the Top Tier, your Achievement is most likely bugged and stuck at 100%. Discussion on this can be found here with an explanation of the bug below:
The achievement is a counter (amount of times in top tier at hillclimb online event) that once it reaches one it unlocks, previously it was a much larger number. Changing it from that large number to the correct number with users at the unlock condition has caused problems.
Those of us that did the first Hillclimb and finished in Top Tier increased our counters from 0 to 1.
At the time however the Achievement required a counter of 50 to unlock.
That was subsequently changed to require a counter of 1, but as many of us were already at 1, we couldn't "cross the line" from 0 to 1 and thus unlock the Achievement.

My experience: The entire ten stage climb was the course, which turned out to be great because a lot of people push too hard and crash. Not sure if there are smaller sections that may come up or not. I practiced once and poorly. I got two tries! The goal was just to finish. I took it easy but had a few offs and finished with 10:30 time. Second run, two minor offs that cost me ten seconds and i finished at 9:45. I was at about top 15% and needed top 33%. 33% was minutes behind me. So many people push and crash out or blow tires.
My tips:
If it states "Run 1", you'll get two runs and your best is the one that counts.
10:00 easily gets you the achievement and there are 10 splits so if you average 1:00 a split, you're on my pace which you shouldnt need to match so maybe 1:20 should be safe. Maybe make a slow run first and try for better the second one if u look at the leaderboard and feel you need improvement.
Prioritize car safety and not going too fast and ending up off the track and getting a :15 penalty. Nice and easy on the gas and brake early for turns.
Cue Rob Schneider in The Waterboy yelling, "You can do it!!!"
Hillclimb events are randomly cycled into the Online Daily Events, typically featuring a difficult combination that people are unfamiliar with, for example: Mixed Surface with a Wet Track. Finishing in the top tier of a hillclimb event means knowing the Pikes Peak track layout is a practical necessity. You will be given two runs as you would in normal hillclimb events, however if you wreck your car to the point that it cannot be recovered, you will retire from the event and lose your second run. For this reason, I recommend setting a somewhat cautious first run just so that you can have a time on the board. You can then set a more aggressive second run, safe in the knowledge that if you mess up, you have a solid first run to fall back on.
