How to unlock the Team Work achievement in Disney Infinity - Definitive Guide

This can be done with just the starter set.

First you have to have an existing save game for one of the worlds. For the example we will be using sully and the monsters university level.

If you have an existing save you can skip to the next paragraph
Place the Sully character on slot one of the base, and load up the Monsters University level. After the cutscene plays and you have control of your character, hit start and save the game. Then in the start menu click load. and load a toybox save.

From inside the toybox place another character, either Jack Sparrow or Mr. Incredible, on the second slot of the base. Then plug in another controller and hit start to join.
At this point you you should be in splitscreen mode.

Hit start on player one's controller and click load, and load your Monsters University save game. when it loads. the second players screen will get a message saying that they have an incorrect character. IGNORE THIS. Do not hit anything or it will remove player two from the game.

Then just finish 1 mission with the first player and the achievement will unlock.

Video guide for those who are still having trouble. Notice in the bottom right corner the version number.

This does indeed work. Tested on a dummy profile. Deleted my solution since I thought you needed an additional character.

Just tried to do this the other day but it wouldn't let me start up a mission until I took the character off. Did they patch it out?

pretty sure its unpatched... you have to start a toybox game...then join with the second character then hit start and load a game

Must have to do it without the patch. Just tried it and like Jerry said it won't let you do any missions until you drop the wrong char off. So I'm guessing going offline and clearing your cache you can still get it.

Guide still works just some missing information, after you make it split screen in the toy box, select “travel” from the pause menu and you can load your save from here

You have to do an actual story mission to get it lol. That was my fault for not understanding the achievement. Your leet shit for putting up the video to help us noobs!

This solution works.
Just let the prompt there on the right side of the screen. Don't touch the player two controller.
All the animations, like mission completion with glowing stuff and cheers on screen appear normally behind the prompt and the achievement unlocks.

Characters that do not belong in the world may not participate in story missions. That means you cannot bring a Monsters University character into The Incredibles or Pirates of the Caribbean Play Sets.

Note: I was not able to invite a friend into a story mission, meaning the only way to complete this currently is by purchasing a secondary character for one of the Play Sets.
