This was the last achievement I unlocked and a pain. Unless you focus on this from the start its almost entirely luck based getting the shards in either the daily box or hoping it pops up in the 6 hour refresh to buy with tokens.
Leveling up the character in ranked matches works until you get to Gold where you can lose points if not top 3.

Update: you can lose points only after getting to Platinum league and you also don't lose points when finishing 4th. It may be much easier in season 5 if main character would be a trickster as progressing through the event gives shards for about halfway through to third star, the rest is luck in loot boxes and ranked multiplayer.

The game splits Racers into four separate classes - Speedster, Trickster, Brawler and Defender. The biggest distinction between these classes are the power-ups available to each Racer during a race.
Trickster class Racers have power-ups and abilites centred around disrupting other racers. This trophy can be earned using any Trickster, but you will need a total of 10 and then 35 Shards after unlocking them to raise them to a 3 star rating.
This trophy can be earned in either single player or multiplayer. Once you win a race with a racer at a high enough level, the trophy will unlock during the results screen.
