Confirming you do not need to play every game for the Player of the Match to count, just complete a match AFTER you know you have been awarded the POTM 10 times. Playing Career mode on Rookie/Easiest, you will earn this naturally as you beef up your player's rating & abilities.

Mine unlocked after I played the T20 final. I had simulated all matches before then while building up my player.
