Quite possibly, the game might just count to 8 missions completed rather than look at which ones you have done. Since there are 9 missions total with the secret one included if you do it it might count towards the overall.

Same thing for me. When I finished Ep 7 I unlocked it, and I did the secret level E9.

Interestingly enough, the achievement popped for me upon entering the final level of Inferno. (I had completed the secret level before, so maybe the counting is somehow bugged... on the other hand, I did the secret levels for first two episodes as well and only got the respective achievements upon completing the final levels).
