How to unlock the Game Over achievement in DOOM Eternal - Definitive Guide

This achievement requires you to complete Horde Mode on any difficulty, but I'm Too Young to Die is the easiest.

You will have to complete all of the arenas to beat Horde Mode. Killing the Bounty Demons that spawn in each arena will unlock extra encounters in that arena, but these are not required and are suggested that you skip. Simply ignore the Bounty Demons if you can. Each mission has a blitz round and a traversal round, but you technically can just not complete them in order to unlock the achievement faster. However, the bonus rounds that are unlocked by completing blitz rounds and traversal rounds reward extra lives upon completion, so decide whether you think they are worth completing.

You can exit the game and save your progress at the start of every new level. If at any point you die and lose all of your lives, you will have to start your run again. There are a total of 38 extra lives up for grabs, however, and this should make completing the mode very manageable on the easiest difficulty. Additionally, you can open the dossier and select the Take Back Support Rune to allow yourself to retrieve extra lives that you have lost by killing the enemy who last killed you within a certain time frame.

Coins, mission challenges, and score are all optional and have no effect on the achievements. Be sure to familiarize yourself with any content you might be unfamiliar with if you haven't played The Ancient Gods: Part II. Namely, the Sentinel Hammer, new demons, and Meathook grapple points. This information can be found in the Codex as well as through in-game tips if you have them enabled.

Un-fucking-believable. It's real nice to grind all the way through this chunky time sink just to get fucked at the end. I'm so tired of developers not getting their achievements right. Wtf happened to QC. I'm stuck at the end, with endlessly spawning screechers and regular zombies. I'm not doing this a 4th time.

38 lives? Jeez I must have missed a ton of shit. I think I only found maybe 6 extra lives.

Thanks for the guide. I haven’t started this yet, but how many levels/maps are there to complete in total?

3 levels. Each level has 3 arenas and each arena has 2 enemy waves on "I'm too young to die" difficulty. Not sure about higher diffs.

Can confirm it’s the same across all difficulties. There is also a Blitz round after the first Arena and a Traversal round after the second. Depending on how well you do them, you’ll get access to bonus round for more Extra Lives and points, which involve collecting a bunch of coins and a special Blitz round with no fodder and a bunch of respawning ammo pickups.

+1 from me. Very easy, lost only 2 lives on easiest difficulty (both on 1st wave of 1st map on 3rd mission, got trapped) and finished with 11 lives without going out of my way.

You only have to do 2 out of or 3/4 waves per map, 3 maps per mission, 3 missions. So that 18 waves total. Just ignore bounty enemies as solution states, and do you best in Blitz and Traversal for extra lives, but don't panic. I think I only did 1/3 blitzes and 1/3 traversals as I'm super rusty. Took 1 hour.

Just to add to the solution, a glitch can happen (happened twice to me) that If you are standing where your next weapon will spawn when you finish the round, you will get the weapon, but will not exit the level. Your only option is to quit and restart the level. Can't confirm if this happens when an extra life spawn, since I was careful to not be anywhere near the central part of the arena.

Thanks for pointing this out! I can confirm this is not the case with extra lives, or at least it didn't happen to me.

What happens if It gets stuck on victory screen? is there any way to get past this?

+1 to the guide and helpful comments.

Two playthroughs, no achievement popped. Hard restarts after both, along with waiting 24 hours. The other 2 horde achievements popped fine. Anyone else experience this?

Just the opposite for me. This achievement popped for me but not the others. 🤦

Good tips above, I ended up just failing the traversal ones to speed it up.

Really enjoyed that DLC, nice change up!

This one popped immediately for me, along with the one for first Horde mission. I had an issue with Reinvent the Weapon Wheel achievement, but it unlocked for me after four days, weird stuff 🤷

Some things I’d like to add on to this:
You should ignore the Bounty Demons completely. Yes, killing them will spawn an Onslaught/quad damage. It will also spawn a Bonus Wave that will likely take out at least one Extra Life for no benefit other than score. And trust me (have played through it on Nightmare twice), the Bonus Rounds in the last mission are bonkers and will probably eat through a lot of your Extra Lives, even with Take Back.
Additionally, Update 6.66 has turned Tutorials on for all players upon logging in, you do not need to go through the settings to turn them back on.

Also, something this guide does not point out is that you will start Horde Mode with just a Combat Shotgun with both of its Mods mastered, and you’ll get the rest of the weapons in a largely random order, with 3 exceptions: the BFG (given to you automatically upon starting Reclaimed Earth’s first Arena round), the Super Shotgun (guaranteed right before Reclaimed Earth’s Traversal round if you don’t already have it), and the Sentinel Hammer (given to you automatically upon starting Reclaimed Earth’s third and final Arena round).

Something that should also be noted ahead of time is that the Sentinel Hammer is nerfed in Horde Mode specifically, taking 4 weak points or glory kills (or a combination of the 2) to charge up instead of the 2 in The Ancient Gods - Part 2.

There is nothing complicated in this DLC, set the difficulty to minimum and kill the evil spirits, along with a copy of life, I had 15 for the last task, I lost about 3-4 lives on the last one because there are a lot of evil spirits, all the DLS took about 2 and a half hours , so go ahead everything is simple

I will add that bonus waves are not important for passing. If you don't want to mess with them, just don't kill enemies with a timer.

In total you need to go through 9 “levels” - after 3 and 6 you can reset your save.
And if something goes wrong, you can roll back the save. Well, or you can go to the menu. For example, during the last wave I had a bug and all my weapons disappeared...

Addition to Soul_Reaper's hint:
In addition to mobs with a timer in the waves, you also don’t need to complete intermediate tasks, such as killing n-number of mobs or jumping skill levels. If they are successfully completed, you will receive a bonus. This is a waste of time and unnecessary bonuses.
Well, a clarification to the Quadro tip:
When you start the mode, there will be three tabs. Each one is 3 stages. I thought that there were only three levels, I wanted to save, but in the end I went through the entire mode at once))
Well, this is the easiest addition after the first two. Even 2 hours is a lot.
