Wow that is super weird, also Black Tower is a nutty level you probably do not want to deal with in the main campaign.

Great video as usual Mr. Whiteshirt and thumbs up. Does any one know if it just keeps track of your best time on all levels and adds them together? If so what about deleting saves? Or do you have to start a new game and run all the way through? Thanks Troy.

It keeps track of your best time and adds them all together, deleting saves (in game not on the cloud) has no effect. You can have all files filed with runs and it will take each levels best time from the entire pool as well as previously deleted saves.

I followed this a bit at a time and usually finished 10 - 20 seconds over the videos time, even messed a bit up twice and went off on a tangent in another which racked up a 10min level time, and STILL got the achievement XD

Yeah, the time for the achievement is very generous and mess ups/slow playing is perfectly fine.

The video is a great helper. I have a few questions though. First, does the level timer stop or continue when you pause the game? Second, do you have to do the levels in one consecutive run or can you just select an individual level? Lastly, if you die in a stage, is the timer reset if you choose to continue?

I am actually unsure if the timer stops if you pause. You can do the levels at your own pace, no need to do it in 1 run. Yes, the game only takes the time into account when you finish the level.

I finished the game but didn’t get the achievement for beating the city levels. I’m wondering if going to level 31 from level 15 means that I technically didn’t beat level 15. I’ll try tomorrow I guess.

It probably did, I thought they had fixed that in one of the patches. Just go back to the level with the secret and beat it the normal way.

Thanks for this! Pausing definitely doesn't seem to affect the timer. Anyway, I enjoyed your slower paced video compared to the other 'world record' types. Whenever I followed those, I just couldn't keep up and was afraid to blink!

Nope, just have to redo levels you think you did the worst at.

You can pause and save/load, just make the time you took on each level (shown on map and on the tally screen) totals to under 2 hours

Are you sure? I tried the save scumming method in Doom 1 and it didn't work. I had to redo an episode single segment to get it to unlock. You can probably save and reload during the run but I think it still counts the time before the reloads.

I quicksaved and loaded a sh*t ton and got the <2 hour achievements in Doom 1 and 2 just fine. YMMV I suppose

I don't understand how this is worth more TA score than When I'm With You. Makes no sense.

^ It's because this is worth 150GS at a 5.74 ratio and When I'm With You is only 50GS but is worth 715 TA because it is 14.31 ratio. If is was worth 150GS like this achievement is it would be 2147 TA score. That's the reason why.

@JelmerF, you got it because you had completed the game before, hadn't you? The game seems to keep track of all completion times, so your "speedrun times" for maps01-27 and "casual times" for 28-30 was less than 2 hours after completing map27. I personally got it after map24.

Another obvious tip: you can play on the lowest difficulty, making most of the game a breeze. You'll always have enough ammo, even if you skip all the secrets and other cul-de-sacs. Most of the levels take around 2 minutes if you know where to go. You don't even need to resort to glitches and fancy tricks that are hard to pull off.

Haha I disagree completely with that :P I know my way around the Episodes 1-3 of the first game fairly well since I grew up playing that on DOS a long time ago but I never had this one until my copy on the 360 which I still have yet to play. I ran through this fully yesterday without a guide and marked my scores down for each level and my time was 4hrs 48min, so yeah, completely disagree with that comment :P Ended with a lot of times ranging from 9min to a high of 26min (level 15 got me pretty bad apparently with level 13 close behind with 20min).
