This achievement is a bit deceiving. This is to get it in story mode. Getting in multiplayer will not count. You get it in the level ADVANCED RESEARCH COMPLEX. You can not miss it. It is required.

But how do you bypass the lasers?

Jump up on the middle and then to the side. Lasers will come down but won't hit you then you shoot the red part on them

This achievement is Story Related and therefore unmissable.
Level - Advanced Research Complex
When you reach the room with the BFG 9000 in, quickly jump on top of the cell that it's encased in, and there are several green lights on small platforms around the room, where some mechanical arms retract too. Quickly jump on one of these. There will be a laser grid moving up and down. I used the assault rifle here and zoomed in to the metal ring that holds this up. Here you will see some right lights on the supports of said rings. Shoot them out one by one until it comes crashing down. Then you can claim the daddy of all guns.
Hope this helps you out. As I was a bit confused at first.

For me this achievement was somewhat buggy, when picking up the BFG the achievement didn't pop when it should. The other day I saw on my activityfeed it actually did unlock.
The achievement probably synched with my profile short after I turned off the console.

Hey guys.
The following video will show you what to do once you arrive in the area containing the BFG.
It will show you how to access BFG chamber with the retinal scanner, how to survive the laser room and ultimately get your hands on the BFG and unlock the achievement.
It is nice and easy to follow and Jays commentary is a good laugh.

You will find this on Level 8 - Advanced Research Complex. Towards the end of the level you will enter a large room (it has BFG LABS above the door you enter). You will see the BFG ahead of you and there will be multiple rooms here. The room to your left contains a torso that you can loot. This is used to open the room containing the BFG.
When you enter the room, it will detect you are not authorised to be here and will try to kill you. Jump above the BFG in the centre and on to any of the platforms at the side. When the lasers come down into the room, shoot the red bits on the bottom. After destroying some of these, the lasers will drop down and destroy the BFG container, allowing you to loot it for the trophy.
I am not sure if this is missable or not as I got it without trying anything else in the area in fear of missing it.

As you progress through the level you will eventually come to a container that is locked and inside is your BFG. Follow the video to see how to open the door and when you enter the room with the BFG there will be 4 ledges you can jump up onto with green lights. Use the switch in the room to activate the trap and jump onto one of those green light ledges. The floor will disappear and down below there will be a laser grid that will kill you if you die. Wait for a laser grid to come up above you and the BFG. If you look under the laser you can see red lights all over it. Shoot a few of those and the laser will drop and you can jump to the BFG. Enjoy it!
