All you have to do is NOT GET LAST PLACE in a race with your friends. Fill up a lobby with (up to) 4 friends and the 1st, 2nd, 3rd place finishers will all get the achievement. The last place player will just have to win a later race.
To Add: if the loser "chickens out" it wont count towards this achievement. the loser must finish the race with a time -

you can do this with only 2 people same way because i had a friend play with me and i set it for 2 people with one private slot and got it

simply get a friend race with him or her and beat them if your not good then let them lose so you can get the achievement to unlock good luck!!

If you have already completed the DLC and not done the two multiplayer achievements, you are going to be very happy. The achievements Social Climber and Competitive Spirit are now achievable for those for didn't do these before the DLC.

Just a heads up you can do this "double boxing" with the X1 and a secondary account. - i was note aware this was possible so in case anyone was wondering:
set up your x360 and create the xbl match on your main, send an invite your friend (secondary).
set up the x1, signed in with your main profile, switch profiles to your secondary, launch the game then accept the invite.
complete the level (i used the first usa one) with your main, once completed, continue and finish with the secondary.

This achievement cannot be done over Local Multiplayer! This achievement must be done with someone on your Xbox Live friends list! Simply host a game and invite your friend, or join your friends game and beat them in any level that is chosen.
