How to unlock the WELL MASTER achievement in Downwell - Definitive Guide

Hard mode is unlocked after beating the game once. For more information on Hard Mode, see Step 3 of the Roadmap.

The final challenge before the Platinum, and the hardest trophy overall. What makes this trophy so taxing is that you need to go through the entire game on Hard, which is already a daunting task, and get to the boss with enough hit points and a good combination of weapon/upgrades to kill it. As the game is half skill/half luck based, you can get here pretty capped.

The Boss on Hard works like its normal counterpart, with, of course, harder patterns. Now, it launches more enemies, with more red versions and stronger enemies. Its triple blast comes in two, and homes at you, which makes avoiding it more challenging. Also, sharp teeth come from the ceiling more often, and The Boss takes more hits before going down.

There are a bunch of combinations that work wonders here, but I'll highlight those that made me get this platinum with less effort (but it's still not an easy task!).

Weapon and Upgrades

  • Shotgun with a clip of at least 25 bullets (so, 5 shots), Laser Sight to increase range/accuracy, and Gem Attractor+Gem Power+Gem Sick, to increase number of shots/duration of Gem High
  • Laser with a clip of at least 28 bullets (so, 7 shots), Rest in Peaces to make up for the limited weapon radius and Gem Attractor+Gem Power+Sick, to increase number of shots/duration of Gem High
  • Puncher with a clip of at least 26 (so, 13 shots) Rest in Peaces to make up for the limited weapon radius, Laser Sight for increased weapon range/accuracy, and Gem Attractor+Gem Power+Sick, to increase number of shots/duration of Gem High
  • Noppy with a clip of at least 26 (so, 26 rapid shots) Rest in Peaces to make up for the limited weapon radius, Laser Sight to increased weapon range/accuracy, and Gem Attractor+Gem Power+Sick, to increase number of shots/duration of Gem High

Any other variant is less optimal than these ones. Triple is suboptimal because of its weaker firepower and wide radius, thus making it hard to stop enemies. As for other upgrades, see Step 3 of the Roadmap.

There are three weapon modules as well, each on the first which three stages, can be used to replenish your health points in case you need (just be careful not to shoot them if you have the Reverse Engineering upgrade).

The strategy remains the same. Avoid the double triple-blast shots (one after another), and kill all enemies when they come. Remain on the center, deviating from the ceiling teeth. As you go to the next stage, the Boss will stop once without shooting at you. Be careful not to fall into its mouth unintentionally. The enemies remain the same from Normal mode, so these are not strange to you - except they come in greater number.

The bigger problem, however, will be yourself. As you start the battle, odds are you start trembling, because the increased adrenaline. You know if you die, you'll have to start over, so you get more and more nervous as the battle goes one. If you notice you are losing control, pause the game, take deep breaths, until you can calm yourself down. Take your time and go back to kill this motherfucker.

The trophy (and hopefully the Platinum) will pop as soon as you kill The Boss.

Cobblestone style. Boss weapon Laser . Before that I tried with “explosion” and with “triple” and with “machine gun”, but nothing... I’ve been thinking about “Laser” for a long time. And at level 3-2 he took it and went with it to the end, the boss fell easily.

Finally succeeded!!!
Revolver mode is 100%, only for them!!
Boosts in any order except the jetpack, you need to get it at 1-1
Boosts: backpack, drone, candle, explosion when falling on an enemy, collecting crystals causes an explosion, collects nearby crystals, discounts in the store, laser, recharges boosts when collecting crystals, cartridges cause damage, embryo, food and, if possible, replace food only at level 4-2 or 4-3 per apple, when the cost is full, to get +1 to the maximum!
1-1
We boost the x9 combo and fall on the tile to break the combo, save up crystals, don’t buy anything until level 4-1, collect everything from the caves, hope for success, and what they take down doesn’t matter to us, the main thing is that at the end of 1-1 the backpack falls out, exactly him!
1-2 if the backpack falls out, then we try to boost x25 combos while moving down, collect caves.
1-3 is the same as 1-2
2-1 boost x25 all levels 2-2, 2-3 mostly does not land.
3-1 and further to 4-1 we fall down, only we collect caves.
4-1 we buy the hobby of life, kill all the mobs. If he gets money for 4-2, 4-3, we also buy a hobby, boost x25 or more, and at the caves we definitely increase it for the edge.
5-1 is just practice.
The game is random and based on luck. Very hardcore. At the end I collected 678k crystals in general) nutrition is not particularly important

Revolver style. At the same time, collect: a knife and fork, tightening nearby crystals, recharging with crystals, a drone, a cute ball, a membership card (if possible. Collect 8 combos), a candle (will help you fly down at the 4th location, because there are few objects. Rocket detachment (in case you are surrounded by enemies) explosive bots (will help in the 3rd location, apple (because it gives +4 life and +1 to the scale in replenishing the health cell).
In difficult mode, I advise you to collect absolutely all bonuses with weapons, and at the 3rd location have either a machine gun, a hammer, or a laser. And don't waste your health, because... when receiving health at full HP, stinks are put into reserve, after which +1 HP is given to the health cell

After a bunch of restarts, I decided on a revolver style for myself. And at levels 1-2, 1-3, be sure to take the bonus knife and fork. And slowly gain yourself XP, the first zone naturally needs to go to perfect. When I learned how to do this at level 2-1 I already had 6 XP, leave the bonus apple for level 3, if you’re lucky you can restore XP and add 1 to the total. Other bonuses are at your discretion and play style. Helped me a lot, destroying blocks with a shot, drawing in crystals, collecting crystals generates a shot, collecting crystals recharges boots, drone, candle, range and accuracy. And the inflatable heart will save you more than once in levels 3 from squids that will fly from above if you miss them. With such a set of bonuses at levels 4, you can safely gain a few more XP, do a combo of 25, land near the caves, take the bonus, reset the combo and then gain 25 or more before landing. As a result, I came to the boss with 7 out of 8 XP. The weapon for the boss is a laser or a hammer, a laser is better, you will move from phase to phase faster. Take everything in the caves, since the more cartridge you have, the easier it will be in the end. Defeated the boss on the 3rd attempt as soon as I reached him. Luck plays a significant role - the loss of bonuses and the generation of enemies with levels. In the first zone, do 8 combos and land, ideally do this constantly, but only in the 1st zone, in order to accumulate a decent amount of crystals and buy upgrades in stores, having previously taken a bonus membership card. This is still easy to do in the 3rd zone. I don’t recommend it in the 2nd zone, the most difficult zone for me, I always lost a decent amount of XP there, the generation of everything and everyone on it is terrible.
