I was already in a guild (and I was battling the final boss actually) when I saw this update. I left the guild but the achievement didn't unlock. I then waited until I got 1b gold (took a minute or so after restarting since my multiplier is high), join the Merchant Guild, and left immediately. Achievement unlocked.
