How to unlock the Herald achievement in Dragon Age Inquisition - Definitive Guide
I recommend playing an elven mage, but this is possible with any class/race combo. Your party should be Warrior(sword and shield), Mage, Mage(both should have barrier), Rogue(ranged or daggers).
Always try to have a barrier active. Try to have your two mages alternate casting it.
Grind out some levels before doing each story mission. Being overleveled makes a huge difference.
Crafted items are much more powerful than most of what you will find.
As soon as possible, abuse the golden nug. Save, buy a schematic, use the golden nug. then reload the save, and use the golden nug again. You'll get the schematic for free. Using the Golden nug and the Black Emporium or a previous character can get you some truely overpowered gear.
So buy the most expensive item you can buy, dupe it as often as you like, sell it and repeat or buy an even more expensive item to dupe.
Duping is done by putting the item into the chest and then pressing + simultaneously. This leaves the item in the chest and puts a copy of it into your inventory. For other system you have to press the key to take it out of the chest and the key for closing the chest simultaneously.
The most expensive items I could find are accessible in the Black Market from the free DLC with the same name.
Recommended starting difficulty to get a feel for the tactical side of the game (unless you are new to the series and need to learn the ropes, in which case begin on Normal). Play through the entire single-player campaign on Hard without lowering the difficulty. You may increase it to Nightmare whenever you wish, but it will not grant you the "Inquisitor" achievement.
