How to unlock the Specialized achievement in Dragon Age Inquisition - Definitive Guide

You can unlock specializations for your character that further refine your character. Mage, Warrior and Rogue each has three specializations.

Mage
-Knight Enchanter
-Rift Mage
-Necromancer

Rogue
-Assassin
-Artificer
-Tempest

Warrior
-Champion
-Reaver
-Templar

You will unlock a mission on the war table a while after you reach Skyhold about getting trainers. It's an instant mission, do it and the trainers will arrive in Skyhold. You can talk to them and you will get a short mission chain for each possible specialization. It's up to you if you want to do all three or just your chosen specialization. If you do all three you still have to choose just one specialization in the end. It will then appear in your character record and you can start allocating points. Remember that the smith in Skyhold sells respec potions! If you wish you can reallocate points and move them all over to your specialization right away.

Human, Elf and Qunari can be any class, but Dwarves can not be mages.

You have put the point in the specialization for you own character? Not into one of your followers by mistake?
Did you do the quest from the trainers and turn it in at the requisitions table?

Which quest are you doing? I suggest googling it, as they can be a bit difficult to sort out. I did the Rogue Asassin quest where I had to kill three assassins and forge a knife.

Short version, kill the three assassins, collect 20 deathroot and forge the knife.

Long version: http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Way_of_the_Assassin'
There is a possibility of this quest being bugged if you have killed one of the assassins before you received the quest.

Good luck!

I just noticed this achievement. I did everything for the quests, got the assassin class, put points in it but it hasn't popped for me. Did I miss something?

High level rogue archer artificer is a beast, cooldown is almost instant. Mage knight enchanter is also an excellent build. I haven't tried any of the warrior builds.

Simply complete the Specializations for the Inquisitor quest when it appears on the War Table in Skyhold. Speak to the trainer of your choosing and complete the task they give you. Confirm your selection and the trophy is yours.

Tip: If anyone else is experiencing crashing when you try and respec using the Tactician's Renewal try the following:
Simply save your game (to a new slot if you like) BEFORE exiting the menu after you respec.
As long as you save before leaving the main menu to re-enter your game, you should be fine. The bug seems to occur around respeccing too many points at once, and this seems the quickest workaround until Bioware get round to fixing it... which appears to be taking some time.
I mention this because it seems the most likely time for you to want to respec your shiny new class. toast

Once you reach Skyhold, you will be able to pursue a specialization by completing a quest given to you automatically. Each class has three choices, but only one may be taken; once chosen, it cannot be undone, so choose wisely! Make sure you do some research and pick the one you know you’ll want for the rest of the game. They are as follows:

Warrior: Champion, Reaver, or Templar
Rogue: Artificer, Assassin, or Tempest
Mage: Knight Enchanter, Necromancer, or Rift Mage

Finalize your decision and take on the new specialization to unlock the achievement.

At some point in Skyhold, after doing some quests you'll automatically receive the "Specialization for the Inquisitor" quest under the "Inquisitor's Path" quest tab. Activate that quest and go to the War Table. On the Ferelden side of the table you'll get an operation with the same quest name. Start the operation and three new NPCs will show up in Skyhold. Each one of them grants you a different specialization class. You can start all three of them, but you can only complete one of them.

Warriors can choose to become a Templar, Champion, or Reaver.
Rogues can choose to become a Tempest, Assassion, or Artificer.
Mages can choose to become a Knight-Enchanter, Rift Mage, or Necromancer.

Each specialization quests requires you find a specific book, items and materials. Once you've found them all, go to a Requisitions table in any camp or Skyhold to craft the item needed and talk to the specialization NPC to receive a new skill tree and the trophy.

The book is always found near one of your companions in Skyhold. You'll need to find the room of the companion that has the same specialization as what you're going for.

Rogues
Cole: Assassin
Varric: Artificer
Sera: Tempest

Warriors
Cassandra: Templar
Blackwall: Champion
Iron Bull:Reaver

Mages
Dorian: Necromancer
Vivienne: Knight-Enchanter
Solas: Rift Mage

Check the black head icon on the Skyhold map to find them. If you didn't recruit them, you can also purchase the book at a merchant in Val Royeaux.

The location of the first three materials are found by defeating certain enemies. Their locations are mentioned in the quest description. The other materials are the same ones as you use for crafting.

The very last item on the list is something that you need to craft at a requisitions table at any camp or Skyhold. You can craft this as soon as you have all the other items. Once you've crafted the item, go back to the specialization NPC to receive your specialization.
