How to unlock the The Brightest of Their Age achievement in Dragon Age Inquisition - Definitive Guide

This achievement requires you to recruit all 9 possible companions in a single playtrough. Not too difficult, i got this without really trying and without using my Inquisitor perks to unlock dialogue options.

Most of the related quests unlock during normal story progression. I had all companions and the achievement unlocked on arrival at
A few need to be hunted down although with the possible exception of Sera they are easily found. Once you have met them, talk to them whenever you can and after a while you will get the option to ask them to join the Inquisition.

Blackwall was bugged for me. Couldn't take to him, he only stood at his lake until I went to the royal party and Adamant, then he was gone.

Dorian _should_ appear at the gates of haven to warn you before the big battle if you did not meet him in the "in hushed whispers" quest. I am unaware of any conditions that would stop him from appearing.

I could not get this achievement. I tried twice, in two different gamesplays. I have all the characters in both and did not get the achievement, does anyone know if it's a bug?

I have all 9 companions and still the achievement has not unlocked!! I do not want to start all over again because of this broken achievement. Has anyone tried EA Support or MS Support so at least they are aware of the issue?

Yep, if you side with the templars you have to talk to Dorian above Solas in Skyhold, not before the battle of Haven. At least that's how I worked for me too.

It glitched for me, but the opposite way. I don't have Cole but the achievement popped anyways during the Haven battle.

I got this first time of asking. Usually in a case like this, I'd have a bugged achievement. I talked to everyone I found as I went, and exhausted all conversation options. Just to be sure.

I need some help please! I have all but Iron Bull and I have done Val Royeaux but no quest came up, have I missed something? I went back there and talked to everyone that it was possible to talk to.

Just because something unlocked for you, does not mean it will not glitch for someone else. I do not know what people do not get about this. The achievement unlocked for me with a slight delay after recruiting Dorian above Solas' chamber in Skyhold.

I realize this is old but Iron Bull like many is one of the first companions you get. Right at the beginning of the game a soldier is in front of Haven offering their support. He claims you will not be disappointed. Then you can travel to the Storm Shore and recruit Iron Bull and his group.

The guide could have been more direct in recruiting companions and when missed. For instance, in order of when you can recruit them rather than A,B,C, order.

Mine is stuck at 50% and this is my last achievement as well. I deleted all my saves and did 4 different new play-throughs but nothing happened. Any suggestions?

I appear to have the misfortune of having this achievement bug. Reloaded the save before recruiting my last character a few times. I am on Series X and picked mages. Sounds like some people had this unlock when they picked templars and got Cole before even getting Dorian. Maybe that's the way to go, but too late for me. I will comment again if I manage to get it to unlock.

When doing "a friend of red jenny", The upper market area can only be accessed through quick travel in the local map. Some how I missed this information and wasted hours walking in circlesfacepalm

So this achievement is stuck at 16% for me tried the solution in the comments deleted every bit of save data and still nothing anyone know of any fix for this? This is the last achievement I need for this game

EDIT: If this achievement is bugged for you try what I did you need a physical version of the game go offline just have the base game installed recruit everyone and after you have done that go online and that seemed to fix the achievement for me

Upon skipping Sera in my playthrough. I thought I could upload my save from the 360 right before I recruited her then recruit her on the ONE. The achievement didn't pop after recruiting her. Still stuck at 83%. After unlocking Skyhold and having recruited everyone besides Dorian, I sent another save over from my 360. Loaded up the save and then recruited Dorian in the Library the achievement popped shortly afterwards. So yes, you can get this achievement with the save transfer.

So this glitched on me during my Nightmare playthrough at 83% and I'm confident the reason for this was due to me picking the mages rather than the templars.

How I fixed the achievement is I saved it until it was my final achievement then essentially fully wiped my save file and did another run making sure pick the templars and it popped after re-inviting Cole and then inviting Dorian to the team.

Step by Step:

• Have game completly closed down.
• go to Manage game and add-ons for DA:I
• Select Saved data and select DELETE ALL
• Go to the Xbox settings and then Network setting to go Offline (I did this on Wi-Fi not wired)
• Boot DA:I and start a new game on casual difficulty
• Skip the cutscenes until you're able to move your character and then make a manual save.
• Without closing the game, boot Xbox settings again and go back online.
• When you'r re-connected online return to DA:I and then fully quit out of the game
• Reboot DA:I
• Once you get to the main menu, select that you want to load the save from your Console
• Continue game with you new character
• Recuit Cassandra, Varric and Solas at the start as you would.
• Get to Val Royeaux and recuit Vivienne and Sera
• Go back to Hinterlands and recuit Blackwall
• Go back to Haven, speak to Krem then head to Storm Coast for Iron bull
• Ensure you pick the Templars side by doing Champions of the Just quest
• Continue main quest to Skyhold
• When you're at Skyhold and able to move freely head to lowest level and find the Look for Cole interaction at the bottom of the stairs then recuit Cole fully.
• Head up the Southern tower to find Dorian and recuit him.

Achievement popped a few seconds after finsihing dialogue with Dorian.

Taken from EA Answers. Tried this and it worked for me and fixed my bugged achivements (this one and focused).

"Welp... FINALLY managed to unlock The Brightest of Their Age. And I think I may have figured out a workaround, at least for Xbox One players, who have problems with achievement tracking in DAI. Here's what I did when all other troubleshooting methods failed to solve my issue: Delete all of my data/characters.

You're probably gaping at me like, "there's no effing way I am doing that". Just hear me out; it's not as extreme as it sounds on the X1. Even without a Gold membership, your saves are constantly backed up on the cloud. Though it requires "temporarily" getting rid of your previous characters, it may reset the tracking for a new one--at least it did for me.

Here is what you do: Delete your DAI saves from the console (for an explanation how to do this in detail, here). Start a new character and DO NOT resync your cloud data with the console; your achievement tracking should reset. For me, I recruited every team member and the percentage updated until The Brightest of Their Age unlocked. I then reset the game and resynced my cloud data, which returned my previous characters' data. My achievement counts for my main Inquisitor returned to normal, too.

I encourage everyone who has an X1 to try this to see if it works. And for other systems, if you have tried this and it works or have different workarounds to help out other players, please post them!"

There are a total of nine (9) possible companions to recruit in DA Inquisition. See below for a quick guide on how to recruit each of them (please note some light spoilers are contained within).

Cassandra - Your first companion of the game. She will join you automatically right at the start. Cassandra is a human warrior that begins with a sword and shield.

Varric - Very shortly into the Prologue Varric will automatically join you along with Solas. Varric is a dwarven rogue equipped with his prized crossbow Bianca.

Solas - Will join with Varric automatically in the Prologue. Solas is an elven mage equipped with a basic fire staff.

Blackwall - You can recruit Blackwall after The Lone Warden quest (given to you by Leliana if you talk with her at the camp in Haven). You get that quest after you go to Val Royeaux and talk to the Templars. Go to the Hinterlands and do the quest and tell him you want him to join you. Blackwall is a human warrior and starts off with a sword and shield.

Iron Bull - To get Iron Bull you first need to stand and wait outside the Chantry in Haven. If you wait long enough (or stumble upon in randomly like I did) a messenger will greet you right outside the Chantry doors. The messenger will ask you to come to the Storm Coast to meet with their leader, Iron Bull. You then need to complete the quest “The Captain Of The Chargers” at the Storm Coast. Once this quest is complete, you'll come face to face with Iron Bull and can ask him to join. Bull is the only Qunari party member available in game (outside of your option to play as a Qunari). He starts off with a two handed sword instead of a sword and shield. You also get his men as agents for the Inquisition.

Sera - While in Val Royeaux the first time, you will get shot at by an arrow near your position following an encounter. Approach the arrow to start the “A Friend Of Red Jenny” quest. To complete this quest you need to inspect the areas targeted on your map (and pinpoint each location by following your "ping" radar of clicking the Left Thumbstick). Once you net all the collectables you'll be able to travel to a nearby area (on your world map) to recruit the ... colorful ... Sera. Sera is an elven rogue who starts off with a bow. If you're having trouble finding all the waypoints, note that Val Royeaux is actually a two floored area. For whatever reason the stupid gates aren't open so you have to use the Fast Travel to switch between floors.

Vivienne - Vivienne is a Mage you can recruit by doing the “Ghislain Estate” quest in Val Royeaux. After you talk to Vivienne for awhile ask her to join with her Mages. Vivienne will probably be the first companion you recruit after the initial three. Like all mages Vivienne begins with a basic elemental staff.

Dorian - After you complete the quest “Hushed Whispers” Dorian will offer to join your team. As usual if you don’t want him you can say no. If you side with the Templars you won’t be able to get Dorian until you get to the Skyhold later in the game. Dorian is a human mage that begins with a basic elemental staff.

Cole - Doing the “Champions Of The Just” quest will get you the Templars as allies. After you beat the quest Cole will come and you can have him join you if you want. If you side with the Mages you won’t be able to get Cole until you start to head for Skyhold. Cole is a rogue and wields Dual Daggers instead of a bow. He is likely the last companion you will recruit.

- Cole (Progress the story. He will ask to join)

- Dorian (Progress the story. He will ask to join)

- Iron Bull (Progress the story. Eventually, a messenger will appear outside the gates to Haven's Chantry, claiming to be part of a mercenary band. Accept the invitation he presents and complete the quest)

- Sera (When you enter Val Royeaux, an arrow will be fired near your Inquisitor with a letter attached. Complete the quest)

- Solas (Cannot be missed. Acquired at the start of the game)

- Varric (Cannot be missed. Acquired at the start of the game)

- Vivienne (In the courtyard of Val Royeaux, there will be a messenger by a fountain near the exit as soon as you are about to leave for the first time, dressed in regal attire and a mask. **MISSABLE**

There are a total of 9 companions. You can bring 3 companions of your choosing with you into battle. Each companion has their own class and specialization. You can let the AI control them, or you can take over at any time.

You can recruit all but two pretty early on in the game, but apart from the first 3 companions, they're all optional. Once recruited, you can also choose for some of them to leave the Inquisition. I'm not sure if this will void the trophy, but I don't see why you really want to throw away any companions anyway, as annoying as they might be.

These are all the companions and where to find them.

Cassandra: Automatically recruited during the Prologue.
Solas: Automatically recruited during the Prologue.
Varric: Automatically recruited during the Prologue.

Blackwall: After completing "The Threat Remains" main story quest in the Hinterlands, the "The Lone Warden" quest will automatically be added to your Journal. This quest will lead you to Blackwall.

Sera: The first time you get to Val Royeaux, an arrow will be shot into the ground very close to you. Inspect the arrow which will have you track down 3 Red Letters. These can be picked up by using Ping (press ) first. Once you've found all 3 of them, a new location will be added on your map. Go to that location to meet up with Sera. Make sure you also have the Vivienne quest active before leaving Val Royeaux.

Vivienne: The first time you get to Val Royeaux, an arrow will be shot into the ground. This is related to Sera, but very close to it is a man that you can speak to. Speak to him to receive an invitation from Vivienne. This will add a new location on your map. Travel to this location to meet up with Vivienne. Make sure you also have the Sera quest active before leaving Val Royeaux.

Iron Bull: After a few quests, a messenger will appear at the entrance of the building where your war table is location. Talk to him to activate a quest that will lead you to Iron Bull in Storm Coast.

Cole: At some point in the main story line, you need to choose to side with either the Mages ("In Hushed Whispers" quest), or the Templars ("Champions of the Just" quest). If you decide to side with the Mages, Cole will automatically show up after completing the quest and you can choose to recruit him. If you side with the Templars, he will appear during the quest and you'll be able to recruit him afterwards.

Dorian: At some point in the main story line, you need to choose to side with either the Mages ("In Hushed Whispers" quest), or the Templars ("Champions of the Just" quest). If you decide to side with the Templars, Dorian will automatically show up after completing the quest and you can choose to recruit him. If you side with the Mages, he will appear during the quest and you'll be able to recruit him afterwards.
