How to unlock the Regal achievement in Dragon Age: Inquisition - Definitive Guide
to upgrade your throne it is rather easy but can contain a little bit of luck.
in the war room over the Ferelden (right) side of the map there will be a constant mission called "gather coin" which takes roughly 15-20 min to complete every time you finish this you have a chance of getting a throne upgrade. UPDATE A big thanks too Spakon for pointing out this can be achieved by completing the other gather resources operations as well and a thanks to Apocalypse Kane for proving his theory right
The first time I did it in Sky hold I got upgrade I and the next time upgrade II once you get the Upgrade II the Achievement will pop.
To fully upgrade a throne you need to get two upgrades from the above missions, which are random "drops".
Now, it has been mentioned in the comments of the top voted guide, but in the interest of visibility I'll write this here. Once the operation is complete, save outside the War Room door, then complete the operation. If you didn't get a throne upgrade, reload your save and try again as the reward seems to be decided upon completion, allowing you a different result on each reload.
Using the above method will mean only having to wait for the actual completion time twice, once for each upgrade. Though unless you're having bad luck or are more interested in completing other War Table missions, you should manage it reasonably quickly without the save trick.
The video will show you how to do this quickly.
I guess this method could be used to quickly farm money, herbs and metals with the gather herbs and metal quests on the war table also if you wish to.
I personally was not sure how to upgrade the throne and when finding this video realised you get it just by doing the quest at the war table and once you get the parts it will pop. So don't worry about doing anything else like when you upgrade the gardens or towers you need to go look around Skyhold to make the changes, you don't need to do anything at all, like i say it will pop as soon as you open the quest report as long as you got the parts needed.
So just follow the steps on the video and you will eventually get the parts and with it the trophy. Don't worry if you don't get the parts straight away you can just keep using the method shown on the video repeatedly until you do so.
If you don't want to use this as a way to advance other quests and wish to play them at the normal time rate just wait until all other war table quests are finished and then just use the gather coin quest alone.
Or if you don't want to use this method at all you just can just keep doing the gather coin quest at your own rate, it's entirely up to you.
During any point in the story after having acquired Skyhold, you will uncover operations on the War Table that reward either coin, resources, or both. A throne accessory is randomly a reward on these operations and you'll have to roll the dice to get them, requiring two in total to be considered "completely upgraded." Keep running them until you are given your upgrades to unlock the achievement.

Once you're in Skyhold, you'll receive your very own throne. In order to upgrade it, you'll need to go to the War Table and find the "Gather Coin" operation at the very left on the Ferelden side. Select it and send any of the three people to gather some coin. Once the mission is finished you'll more than likely receive coins, but if you're lucky, you'll also receive a Throne Accessory. In order to obtain the trophy, it needs to be a Throne Accessory II. Accessories for different Thrones can be found from all the other "Resource" missions which counts towards the trophy as well.
If you're unlucky or want to speed up the progress, forward your console's clock by the amount of time needed for the mission to finish to immediately complete it. If you set your console clock past 00:00 (12am), the mission timer will increase to 24 hours. Forward the date by 1 day if this happens, changing the time won't work in this instance.
