How to unlock the Veteran achievement in Dragon Age: Inquisition - Definitive Guide
If you happened to NOT get the achievement when you reach level 20 then it is because you weren't playing as your character but don't worry as it will unlock the next time you level up. Just make sure to control your character when you level up.
Location: The Fallow Mire
Specifically location on Map: to the left of the second camp you set up.
Best Equipment Set up: Rogue Archer
When you walk out of the second camp towards your objective, there will be a continual stream of spawning skeleton archers. At first there will be 4 and then more will continue to spawn.
BEWARE!!!
They shoot poison arrows at you and will kill you quickly on Nightmare difficulty.
Here is a video of the process in action. I take no credit for the video. You do not need to be level 15 to do this, I did it at level 7. You just need to grind it out and if you almost die, run back to the camp to resupply, which is nice because the camp is so close.
Use your Rogue Archer and if the others are dead, cloak yourself and go back to the tent to rest and continue.
If you go out of your way to complete all of the areas, do all the other achievements, and spend time collecting every codex entry you see, this will come naturally. Some tips for quicker progression:
- Purchase the four Inquisition perks that increase experience gained from codex entries. By doing so, you raise the gain from 50 xp to 150 xp, a staggering increase for the amount of codex entries you will find while playing. Unlock these early.
- Purchase the Inquisition perk in Cullen's tree to gain +5% experience from killing enemies.
- Purchase the Inquisition perk in Leliana's tree to gain +50% retroactive experience on all research items turned in.
Please note that some players have encountered a glitch with this achievement. If you are controlling a character other than your own when they reach level 20, it is possible that the achievement will not unlock. For guaranteed results, please make sure to have control of your PC when leveling up to 20.

**GLITCHED** Make sure that you control your own character when you hit level 20. If you hit level 20 while controlling one of your companions, you'll need to reload an earlier save and level up again.
You get experience for almost anything you do. Quests, defeating enemies, examining items, reading letters, monster research, obtaining codex entries etc. Once you finish the story and some side quests here and there, you should be somewhere at level 16-18. On your way to obtaining the platinum, you'll probably be well over level 20 already. One of the fastest way to gain levels is by closing Rifts and defeating dragons. You need to do both for the Marked for Greatness and the Dragons' Bane trophies anyway.
You can also acquire Inquisition Perks that increase your experience for every enemy killed by 5%. Or perks that give you more experience for turning in monster research items and obtaining codex entries.
