How to unlock the Silver Tongued achievement in Dragon Age: Origins - Definitive Guide

For a simple quick way to get this achievement, start a new Rouge type character, and pour all your level up points through the opening of the game into Cunning and Coercion. I do not know what level of either you need to be at to do this, as I was level 4 Coercion, and 22 cunning when I found this.

After getting past Ostagar, and making your way through Lothering, head to Denerim as your first stop. Once hear you need to head to The Pearl, the brothel that is part of the quest Pearls Before Swine from the Sergent Kylon in the Market.

Once there, talk to the Sanga, owner of the Pearl, and ask to see either the men or women, it does not matter. When they come out, she goes through the rules, and tells you the price. You get a persuade option to drop the price to 20 silver instead of 40.

Now if you persuade her, select the option to change your mind. DO NOT ACCEPT AND PAY THE MONEY. If you accept the 30 silver price she offers, then the option to persuade her goes away. Turning it down and starting the dialogue up again adds another successful persuasion.

Yup, as long as you make sure to not accept the deal, otherwise its a one time thing. Save first, then start doing it. Doesnt take very long, and is the easiest way to pull this one off.

Also, these tally up across all saves. If you have done 10 in one game, you only need to do 15 more. Assuming you keep that save file.

I only had level 2 coercion and 15 cunning and this still worked. Nice find.

Does this still work with the updates? Or does it have to be done offline?

I can confirm that it does still work, but it does not appear to carry over through playthroughs. I started a new game with a new character, and doing this I had to persuade her 24 times (I'd already persuaded the bandits to give me a toll in Lothering). So, I say again, THEY DON'T CARRY OVER.

Works still as of 9/3/11. I did this on a speed run, I only looted while I needed the vials of darkspawn blood. I didn't even have 30 silver which kept me from mistakenly selecting the wrong dialogue.
Very helpful, thanks.

Still works, just accomplished it by this method a few seconds ago. Only needed to do seven times (out of the twenty-five) for the achieve to pop for me.

Still works (July 2017), just an FYI do not select "surprise me" as you lose your 40 silver without a persuade attempt, the option to persuade is still available when talking to Sanga again.

Tried this November 2021, still works. I tried it with the options for the men, the women, and some of both. They all work. Do NOT chose “surprise me” as that finishes the interaction with Sanga. I did not choose “Er, never mind.” as that seemed pretty counterintuitive.

Still works as of May 29, 2023.

If Oghren is in your party you get a +1 for 'women' or 'both' but a -1 for 'men'. Just a FYI as you can manipulate Ogrhen's approval a bit with this exploit, if you are so inclined.

Best done with a rogue class as you get additional talent points to put into coercion early in the game.

Very simple - with high cunning and coercion take the persuade option in every dialogue available. Take as many sidequests as possible as many of these have a persuade option. Save before each dialogue encounter in case you make a mistake.

There is a repeatable persuasion attempt at the Pearl in Denerim.

When first speaking with Sanga after clearing the mercenaries she will offer men, women, both, or a surprise. I personally picked women and she told me that they are 40 silver. I attempted to persuade her down to 20 and she meets halfway at 30. But after saying 30, I said nevermind. This was repeatable and just gave me the Silver Tongued trophy.

I am two points into Coercion and can't confirm what will happen at higher/lower levels.

See "Persuasive" for more details. This is the same idea, just 25 instead of 10.

In some dialogues you will come across an option to convince characters (Before such an option it will be written in parentheses (Persuade / convince)), select it. This option occurs quite often if you choose it whenever possible and you will receive this achievement shortly before the end of the game. Its success is determined by the level of your Cunning, as well as the presence of the “influence” skill, while the skill gives a greater chance of success than a high level of cunning, so it is very important to develop it to the maximum level.
I managed to get an achievement for Intimidation in one playthrough.
