When you leave the Isle of Awakening using the boat by following the story quests, you will make your way to the first island.
This Island is called Furrowfield.
The main missions will have you make your way to a small base here.
As you complete quests for the inhabitants you will get one from Bonanza.
It is to fix up a room for him. Once you have completed it and talked to him, you will unlock the first room recipe.
There is a small frame here at the base you can use to build on which has a red door and you will need the following which can be made from the workbench:
Torches x 1 or 2
Firewood x 1
Farm tools x 1
Bed x 2
Floor should be made from Floorboards
Walls and ceiling should be made from Softwood (Walls must be 2 high)
