How to unlock the Rare Breeder achievement in DRAGON QUEST BUILDERS 2 - Definitive Guide

This achievement requires you to obtain a 4th Generation Dog/Cat.

To do this achievement you will need Moreberries, lots of Meat and a pair of Cats/Dogs

First, let's get some cats/dogs, it really doesn't matter which ones you get as they both want the same room and the same amount of food to breed, you can feed cats fish but I will show you how to make an AFK Meat Farm so that is very much unneeded. Here are the locations of Cats and Dogs:

PETS

Blossom Bay: Dogs

Sunny Sands: Cats

To befriend a pet simply sneak behind them and 'stroke' them. They will join your party and you can leave the Isle and get the pets to your Isle.

Once the 2 cats/dogs are on the island you can make a Resident's Register to relocate residents (in this case animals) to the Biome your main base is located at. Once there you have to make an Animal House. The requirements for one is:

Any Door

2 Pet Bowls (Don't know if you need 2 but I made 2 to make sure)

2 Pet Beddings

1 Haystack

2 Nameplates

Make sure to assign your cats/dogs to the Animal House by writing their names on the Nameplates.

MEAT

Now that we have pets and have a room for them, now we need Meat so that their happiness increases.

Now normally the ≈300 Meat would take a good few hours of grinding and killing Bunicorns but this step can be automated.

Go to Khrumbul-Dun and go just East of your town, you will see a huge wall. You will want to make a trap here that consists of only spikes, simply flatten a large area, put 2 tall walls around it except the front where you don't put any walls, then put spikes on every block in the flat area. Left of the entrance to this Canyon is a great place to AFK, just put some block on your head and watch those bunnies get spiked to death, AFK for an hour and you will have more oil, medicinal herb, and meat than you will use! Here is a video reference.

Moreberries

The final thing is getting Moreberries, this requires you to unlock rare crops. Rare crops only appear when you harvest 10 different kinds of crops in The Isle of Awakening, this is an optional Tablet Target. Here is where you can find the seeds of each crop:

Blossom Bay

1.) Tomato (requires you to plant in planting pole)
2.) Cabbage
3.) Strawberries
4.) Sugarcane (requires you to plant in water)

Soggy Skerry

5.) Wheat
6.) Aubergette (requires you to plant in planting pole)
7.) Pumpkin

Iridescent Island

8.) Coffee

Rimey Reef

9.) Potato
10.) Leek

Laguna Perfuma

11.) Heatroot (requires you to plant in pristine [clean] water)
12.) Butterbean
13.) Melon

Sunny Sands

14.) Chili
15.) Sweetcorn

Once you plant 10 of these the Hairy Hermit will let you know that rare crops will now start to appear, Moreberry is the rare variant of Strawberries so you will want to plant 2 scarecrows worth of Strawberries to make this faster, though one will be good enough because you do A LOT of waiting for this achievement.

THE ACHIEVEMENT

Now that you have the pets, meat, and the Moreberries the AFK session can begin! Simply wait for the first generation of pets to reach 100% happiness, once they are fully happy you will give each of them a Moreberry and sleep, they will now have a baby, you will give the pets another Moreberry so that they have another baby, these babies are Gen 2 Pets. You will have to wait for them to mature but it isn't a problem as they always reach 100% Maturity before 100% Happiness, so no extra waiting from that! Once Gen 2 are fully happy you will give them Moreberries for two days and having 2 3rd Generation Pets, you will want to do the exact same thing [waiting, or using that time for good and unlocking and crafting items for progress to the Building Boffin achievement, etc...]. Once your first 4th Generation Pet is born you will get the achievement, if you followed this guide and got the achievement, congratulations! Because this is the worst achievement in the game.

for people who are getting an constant save bug like @Austichar quickly run to the boat go anywhere and come back i had the issue while trying to mop up the last achievements and i was going to remove the game because nah i was no way starting again but thought id just try force the saves to be deleted making new ones by the games own feature and it worked fine make sure you do it before it try's to auto save or it might not even work so as soon as you get in the game just travel away asap

Great guide. I haven’t got this myself but heard of a couple things that might make it a bit easier.
If you wait til 7-8pm (orange section of clock) you only need to give them 1 more berry each.
After unlocking 30 tablets you can buy meat from the builderpedia

Buying meat is a BIG waste of gratitude points, you can buy 1 meat for 100 Gratitude Points. You will need thousands of points for Explorer Isles and recipes and you will have to use 30K Gratitude for 300 Meat, not a viable option. The builderpedia shop system is more for seeds than anything else, to be honest.

Totally agree but it depends how you’ve played the game. I personally stopped progressing at certain points in the game to build up the IoA and just have fun which has landed me more gratitude than I’d ever need.
If you’re just rushing through the game for achievements then running around the miners island killing bunnies will net you 100 meat in about 20 minutes so it’s a lot quicker.

The game is meant to be played for fun and building as you like and playing it like that will indeed net you tens of thousands of GP. Though I don't understand what you meant by saying ''If you’re just rushing through the game for achievements then running around the miner's island killing bunnies will net you 100 meat in about 20 minutes so it’s a lot quicker.''

I mean, runnin around killin bunnies is quicker if you’re just wanting the achievement out the way but if like me you’ve got plenty of gratitude from playing in IoA then buying the meat is a perfectly viable option.

Ah I see, but you are saying that you can get around 100 in 20 mins, im saying you can get 200-300. Of course you can get this achievement in any way but this guide is written for the purpose of getting this achievement fast.

Yeah I got 100 in 20 mins just runnin round killin them. No need to set up traps. It takes the same amount of time if you do it actively or passively.
Either way it’s a great guide and you got an upvote from me. I just wanted to point out you can buy items since it’s easy to miss if you wash over the dialogue

Do you need to build new a Animal House for each new generation or can you just evict the previous one? I also received the ability to grow rare crops after the Tablet Target for ten different crops, not the final one.

You can relocate the previous generation to another part of the Isle and rename the Nameplates to the current generation, the rare crops are meant to unlock after planting every crop in the list, dont know what happened on your end, could you send screenshots of it possibly? Thanks

You get rare crops for growing 10 different seeds, do not need to grow them all

Fixed it, I probably unlocked it at 10 crops too but was growing most of them at the same time.

Thanks, great guide, It's my last achievement before the get them all achievement. waiting on 3rd gen puppies to mature. You only need 14 moreberries for the whole process so no need for so many strawberries. I used my usual 7x7 field and got all i needed in time.

IF you don't give them a moreberry what happens? My cows and chickens have had babies and I never fed them a moreberry.

Gotta agree with the guy saying collect the meat yourself. Found it way faster to quickly run around and get it, then to wait for traps to kill them. Guess it’s good if you wanna afk but otherwise takes forever.

I found it much easier to wait for the traps to do it tbh, did try running around to get the meat at the same spot and just got really bored.

Another way to farm meat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHxFX3cXy8M

You get about 100 meat per 10 minutes of AFK farming according to the video.

WOW. I just did everything and got the rare 4th gen dog breed and the achievement won't unlock. My game seems to be glitched with some infinite autosaving bug, so that might have completely screwed with the achievement.

It's worth noting with the AFK meat farm, that the 3x3 blocks floating in the air seem to be necessary. When I didn't have it the rabbits would end up spawning again in the distance and off the traps. Though, as soon as I placed the blocks and stood underneath them it forces the rabbits to spawn in the walled pen for some reason, thus almost insta killing them and increasing the farming.

I had to make a much larger spike trap, not sure how to get them to spawn as quick, but I’m still getting 20 or so per trip.

Has anyone had an issue with actually getting them to breed? I have the room set up, they're at 100% happiness. I give them the more berries at sunset and go to sleep but no puppies. I've tried several times. Any ideas?

@Captain Wv4e I added extra beds to the room and that did the trick. Maybe the new pet needs to have a bed space in the animal house to be born.

this took me like 6-7 hours to complete starting with no progress.
i think it takes like 1.5 hours for a dog to reach 100% happiness

I stayed up all night to clutch this before the game left gamepass

For the people saying the afk farm is slow or isn't working, the placement of it is important. Your first row of spikes needs to be 22-24 blocks away from where you're standing, as enemies don't spawn any closer to you than that. You also need the blocks on top of your head and you need to be looking at the spikes to force spawn all the enemies into your afk farm. If you kill all nearby enemies then run to your afk spot, the afk farm should be miles faster than you could possibly do it manually.

This is the trophy which takes the longest in the game. Firstly, you'll need to acquire 2 dogs from Blossom Bay or 2 cats from Sunny Sands. Bring them back to the Isle of Awakening, and build 3 animal houses. Your animal houses should be a small fenced area with a gate, and 4 solid blocks making up part of the fencing (2x2). You want to put 2 pet beddings, 1 haystack, 1 pet bowl, and 2 nameplates in each of the fenced areas to create 3 animal houses.

Now, you'll assign both the nameplates in the first animal house to the two dogs that you got. You'll now need to put lots of meat into the pet bowl (100+). You'll also want a resident's register nearby. Now simply afk for a few hours, checking the resident's register occasionally to see the happiness rating of the dogs. Once it hits 100%, you can breed them.

Breeding the dogs requires you to have Moreberries. These can be acquired from strawberry plants after unlocking rare fruit. Rare crops are unlocked by growing a variety of crops on the Isle of Awakening, so make sure that you gather all the seeds you can from the Explorer's Shores, and plant them on your island. After 10-12 different types of crops grow, you'll be notified that rare crops will appear. Use fertiliser to quickly grow your strawberries, and some will become rare Moreberries (glowing pink). Harvest these. You'll need at least 12 Moreberries for breeding.

Once you have your dogs at 100% happiness, and have at least 4 Moreberries, you can start to breed them. You'll need to feed both dogs a Moreberry during the evening (between 7 and 8 - the orange section of the clock, when the light begins to change). Once you've fed them both a Moreberry, go to sleep. When you wake up you should have a notification that a new pet was born. Name this pet and assign them to the second animal house. You'll want to take the meat out of the bowl in the first animal house too and move it to the second animal house (so you're only feeding the latest dogs). Now wait until evening again, feed the original 2 dogs another Moreberry each, and go to sleep again. This will get you a second puppy. Again, name it and assign it to the second animal house.

Your two new dogs now need time to mature - but thankfully they'll still gain happiness during this period. It takes about 10 ingame days for them to grow, and they should be at or near 100% happiness once they've grown. You can check their progress with the residents register.

Now simply repeat the breeding with the second generation dogs to get 2 third generation puppies, and assign them to the third house an put meat in their bowl. Repeat again until you have a 4th generation puppy, and the trophy should unlock.

For the entire process, you'll likely need about 300 meat. Meat can be gathered from the bunny monsters outside of Khrumbul-Dun. I also tried feeding them Scaly Steaks and Beef, but they didn't have an appreciable difference on happiness gained. Some people recommend covering the ground outside of Khrumbul-Dun with spikes to instantly kill the bunnies, and even building a train above that to travel around the area spawning them, but I didn't find that necessary. Simply running back and forth gathering meat a few times was enough.
