As soon as you have control of the main character, press

to open the menu. Go to Misc., then system settings, then "claim special rewards" to get some items to help you. Go to your equipement and equip the cobblestone sword, Trodain Bandana, and trodain Togs. You can't use the seeds of skill now, save them for later.

Fight the slimes and move up the mountain, through the cave. Some fights here are optional, and if you explore, you'll find some healing herbs. Fight the smog monsters and continue up the mountain. A cutscene will play. Go back down to where you started. Another cutscene will play and then the achievement will unlock.

I was wondering why I didn't get the achievement when I was atop the mountain, thanks.

The downvotes on this solution, by the way, are due to the fact that you put the guide up the second the achievements went live. Since many people were using this achievement for the 12 Days of Christmas Event, they are irritated with you. It meant you got the 'completion' for the event, posted the guide within mere seconds, and nobody else got the completion.

It is a solid guide, but I guess a lot of people are just really annoyed you did that, because it isn't really a guide that had to be written in the first place since it is 'story based'.

I accidentally deleted my comment on another post, but I pretty much said the same, think the downvotes are because a lot of us were using this for the 12 days challenge

I've desperately been trying to get ahead of you so I can get the achievements before you put up more guides

Worth of note: if you are continuing progress from the trial version, achievements do not retroactively unlock and the criteria will have to met again using the full version

^^*slight misinformation* - Any achievements with met criteria within the demo version will pop along with the first unlocked achievement for the full game

(ie. The first story-based achievement will unlock along with the second)

I don't think the issue so much was that he created a guide.

It is the fact that he scanned himself in the second these achievements went live and then posted his solution right away. This meant that all of the people waiting to scan themselves in for the Dragon Quest XI achievements with 'no guide' were not able to get their completion because this guy posted mere seconds after scanning himself in (ensuring he got the 12-Days completion credit)

I don't think many people have an issue with the creation of the guide, it is the way that this guy went about it. His actions were almost deliberate to deny people their completion while ensuring he got this. Not to mention it is a story based achievement you pick up right at the start of the game too, so it wasn't really necessary.

That being said, I didn't downvote him. I was irritated he did that, but I didn't downvote him.
