How to unlock the The Messiah achievement in Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen - Definitive Guide

The Ur-Dragon comes in two varieties: Online and Offline. (You can change between offline or online in the options section of the pause screen, before entering the Ur-Dragon's chamber.)

The Online version is tougher, designed to require multiple players to attack it, over time, before it can be defeated. Its defeat yields greater rewards.

The Offline version is designed to be conquered by a single player, with their party of pawns.

Both versions of the Ur-Dragon will fly away after approximately 8 minutes. Its health will not reset, but one must leave the chamber and return to continue the battle.

Finishing off either version of the Ur-Dragon will yield this achievement.

Locations:

The first opportunity to encounter the Ur-Dragon occurs in the post-Dragon Everfall's Chamber of Lament. When it flies off, use a ferrystone to exit the Everfall, or else fall to the pawn guild exit. Otherwise, the wikia warns, its health bar may reset. ( http://dragonsdogma.wikia.com/wiki/Ur-Dragon )

In "New Game Plus" (complete a play-through, and then continue with a loaded / cleared game instead of actually beginning an entirely new game) the Ur-Dragon is accessible from a special rift stone on the beach of Cassardis.

The Ur-Dragon is a post-game boss. You can find it in Everfall in the Chamber of Lament.

As stated, the online Ur-Dragon is community based. You'd have to get the final shot to win the achievement. So offline is preferable. You can change this in settings.

Level 60 and up is still fine for the Ur-Dragon, but it will definitely take a few tries. Just remember that you can continue coming back to deal damage for as long as you'd like. Easy mode is also smart, as he said.

Before going offline, you can also borrow higher level pawns if need be. Make sure their equipment/skills are well suited for the Ur-Dragon. You can see this before hiring them from the rift. There's also a pawn thread already set up if you don't have any friends with high enough pawns.

To elaborate on what is a good set-up, try not to use mages/sorcerers unless they're outfitted with holy magic. Instead rely on classes with a bow, since alot of the hearts (the weakpoints) are not accessible without them. otherwise, you'll have to climb alot. Having a party of striders isn't so bad of an idea.

The hearts glow a pink-purple color and they're scattered across the Ur-Dragon's body. Targeting anything other than the hearts is practically useless, so don't waste your time.

Blast Arrows work really well to do damage fast. You can also use a maker's finger, but it won't be an insta-kill like usual. And you have to hit the heart to deal the damage. Liquid Vim and health poultices are obviously wise as well.

There's a few good tactics for the fight:
Avoid the fire, you can tell when it's about to spit
Don't stand in the line of its attacks (especially when it whips its tail)
Again, always attack the hearts, not anywhere else
When it perches on the tower, try to use Maelstrom or any archer skills
Strike the legs first, since it will cause the dragon to tumble

The dragon flies off after 8 minutes or so. However, he will return with the same health you left him with. In order to get it to return, you need to pass 7 days in-game. This is the same for all large monsters in Everfall. Sleeping at an inn can make it faster.

Hope this helps!

The Ur-Dragon is a more powerful version of the dragon you fight during the main story. You will find it in the Everfall, Chamber of Lament. There are two versions of this boss, an online version and an offline version. The basic strategy will be the same for both: find the glowing spots and attack them. Unlike the story dragon who only has one spot, this dragon has THIRTY of them. They start hidden under his skin, but will start glowing as you do damage to the various parts of his body. Anywhere there is grey skin, a heart is hiding. When a heart is destroyed, the skin turns black. You'll know you're hitting a good spot if purple blood spews out with each hit. Dead spots will have no effect and a metallic sound when you make contact. The two spots on the tips of either wing are the hardest to hit, and will require a ranged character.

Online: This dragon has an insanely high health pool, which is shared with everyone who is playing the game online. You will do almost no damage unless you're in the high 100's for your character level, and it will take many, many attempts before it is killed - unless there are a lot of people coordinating to kill it at the same time as you. I would very much not suggest going for this method to unlock the achievement, despite the rewards being better.

Offline: This dragon will be manageable solo if your character level is in the high 40's or more. If you're lower than that, it may take 3-4 trips to fully kill the dragon, as it runs away after about 10-15 minutes. This dragon will award 20 Wakestones, which is exactly what you need for the final story mission. You can kill it a second time to have an extra 20 available for your speedrun. You can also farm this boss to sell Wakestones at 30k a pop, a large chunk for all the materials it drops, plus the weapon it rewards is worth 500k - usually around 2 million total for each kill.
