There are 4 biomes, each representing a chapter of the story. You start in Spring, then move to summer, then autumn and finally winter. You cannot return to previous biomes, and you can choose when you want to move forward by performing the ritual at the center of your village. For that reason, make sure you've finished whatever you need to before performing the ritual.
As for this achievement in particular, you just need to clear every source of corruption on each island in any given biome. These normally appear as black and red thorns, though you can rarely find nests that look like big flowery bulbs.
Pretty much any attack can damage them, so use whatever you're comfortable with or have lots of ammo for. By hovering over the islands in the map menu, it should tell you how many sources of corruption are still present on the island. Some can be tricky to find, hidden on the edges of rocks or the island itself. It's also worth noting that corruption can spread, but not between islands. So an island with 5 pieces or corruption if left alone long enough will eventually begin spawning more corruption.
