The first time that you play through chapter one you will be unable to access any of the collectibles because you won't have any of the right tools or pencils yet. As soon as you start chapter 2 you will receive the pickaxe, as soon as you draw and name your pickaxe and save it you can hit menu and go to level select. From here go back to chapter one but this time you have the pickaxe from the start.
Directly below you when you start will be some tan colored rocks that you can break with the pickaxe. Simply stand next to them and hit A a few times. In this new area will be a little furry guy called a color buddy and a puzzle piece. Grab them both and you can earn these 3 achievements:
