How to unlock the Catch 'em All achievement in Dungeon Defenders - Definitive Guide

Storing them means having them in your inventory, regardless of whether they are equipped or not. Each pet you need to collect is of a certain "type". Each type, like tigers for example, can have a range of names, stats, and colors. The only thing that matters is the type. ANY tiger counts.

The pet types are: Gryphon , Tiger , Dragon , Chinese dragon , Steam Robot , Laser Robot , Hamster , Fairy , Imp , Genie , Hawk , Apprentice Animus , Huntress Animus , Squire Animus , Monk Animus , Apprentice Guardian , Huntress Guardian , Squire Guardian , and Monk Guardian.

Note : These are NOT all the pets in the game , but rather the ONLY ONES you NEED for the achievement.

The easiest/fastest ways to get common pet types (Hawk, Chinese dragon, Dragon, Tiger, and Gryphon) is to play the compaign and challenges and check the shop after each level.

Another way , to get all the pets other then the animuses and guardians, is to play levels on Survival Mode. In Survival Mode, the player will be rewarded a pet upon starting the 15th wave, regardless of the difficulty and the pet will appear in the item box.

Griffon - Rewarded for reaching wave 15 of Survival on The Deeper Well
Tiger - Reward from: Wave 15 of Pure strategy/survival on Castle Armory
Dragon - Reach wave 15 of The Summit on Survival/Pure Strategy
Chinese dragon - Reach wave 15 of Magus Quarters on Survival.
Steam Robot - Obtained by reaching wave 15 of survival on Foundries and Forges
Laser Robot - Rewarded for reaching wave 15 of Alchemical Laboratory or The Throne Room on Survival/Pure Strategy
Hamster - Reward from reaching wave 15 Survival/Pure Strategy mode on Servants Quarters
Fairy - Rewarded for reaching round 15 of Survival/Pure Strategy on Royal Gardens
Imp - Acquired by reaching wave 15 of survivor/pure strategy on the Endless Spires map
Genie - rewarded for reaching wave 15 in the Hall of Court on Survival mode
Hawk - Reach wave 15 of The Ramparts on Survival/Pure Strategy
Guardians - Complete The Summit on any difficulty, you will get a guardian of the class you played
Animus - Complete The Summit on Insane diffuculty with the desired class or buy in the shop for 15 million after playing Glitterhelm Hard (thanks Zero Judgement for this tips) or complete Ramparts Insane with the desired class (thanks VivaFathom for this tips).

Note: the hamster Spanky (from Glitterhelm) does not count towards this achievement as it's bugged at the moment and isn't classed as the type hamster. You need to collect an other hamster for the achievement.
The Darkbot (from wave 15 on Survival or Pure Strategy on the Throne Room) doesn't count towards the achievement either (thanks BioFire64 for this tips).

If you do not get the achievement/accomplishment when you have gather them all, go to the tavern and drop them all to the ground and pick them up, You do not need to do this in a large bunch and can throw them one at a time. This is done to attempt to get the game to register that you have collected that pet, in case it did not the first time.

Insane Summit is not luck based, it is stat based, then and only then will skilled players be able to complete it. I can do it solo without fail.

A better way to get Animus in the shop is to complete Ramparts on insane with the character you need. Out of 4 tries i had 3 different Animus and it is fast and relatively easy.

Also the hamster from Glitterhelm does not count towards this achievement, you need to have the one from Servant Quarters or from the shop. If the shop sells both kinds then you will need the right one still.

How do you know you animal kinds? Are they marked anywhere or do you just have to figure out which is which?

They arent specificly marked with their type you just need to look for their apperence and some are named what they are like the Guardians and Animus. But he most common pets just looks a diffrent way like tigers, hawks. dragons, chinese dragons and so on are easy to see what they are by lookin gin the shop cages or if you equip them after receiving them in the Item box.

I am having difficulties obtaining this achievement despite having all of the aforementioned pets. I am fairly confident that Darkbot (a special variant of the laserbot) seems to be bugging this for me, so I will try and obtain a normal laserbot and find out. If not I guess I'm just unlucky!

I can confirm that Darkbot does not count as a Laser Robot for the achievement (until consoles receive a patch). Darbot is obtained from reaching wave 15 on Survival or Pure Strategy on the Throne Room; to obtain a 'normal' Laser Robot you need to go to the Alchemy Lab instead with the aforementioned requirements.

For the achievement you only need the pets I typed in above. That means you only need to collect: Gryphon , Tiger , Dragon , Chinese dragon , Steam Robot , Laser Robot , Hamster , Fairy , Imp , Genie , Hawk , Apprentice Animus , Huntress Animus , Squire Animus , Monk Animus , Apprentice Guardian , Huntress Guardian , Squire Guardian , and Monk Guardian.
So no giraffe.

It may be worth noting that on pure strategy, enemies do not have elemental resistances, so it is pretty easy to complete them with the monk using shock and ensnare auras or the apprentice using elemental towers.

Yes you need all of them. I have typed that in the list of what is needed: "The pet types are: Gryphon , Tiger , Dragon , Chinese dragon , Steam Robot , Laser Robot , Hamster , Fairy , Imp , Genie , Hawk , Apprentice Animus , Huntress Animus , Squire Animus , Monk Animus , Apprentice Guardian , Huntress Guardian , Squire Guardian , and Monk Guardian."

dw, i started on wave 8 the first time, didn't pop. then started on wave 1 the second time and got it on wave 15.

Having to beat the summit on insane as all 4 characters for the animi is absurd, do you have to strike the killing blow? I've heard the person who kills the ancient dragon, all players get the animi type of the class who killed it.

I think that one unlocked early for me. I missed the Genie, Hawk, Imp and the Hamster. After I got the Hamster from doing Pure Strategy on Servants Quarters the achievement and award both unlocked, so MAYBE Genie, Hawk and Imp are not required aswell?

I'd like to add that it is way more beneficial to just play the campaign and check the shop after every level you play for pets you do not have. On the guardians method I agree. To beat the Summit on Insane however is a whole different story. You really need max level characters for that with good max level equipment. And even then it is luck based. I got my Animi in the shop by just playing Glitterhelm Hard while finishing with the Class for which I desired the Animus. They will cost 15 mil. But it is still easier than trying to beat the Summit on Insane. That's how I got the achievement.

Steam Robot - "Attacks your opponents with barrel rolls. Do one!" Can be bought in the Tavern or obtained by reaching wave 15 on "Foundries and Forges"

Laser Robot - "Attacks your opponents with laserbeams shot from its eyes." Can be bought in the Tavern or obtained by reaching wave 15 on "Alchemical Labratories" or "The Throne Room" (however, it's been reported that the one from "The Throne Room" doesn't count towards the achievement)

Hamster - "Attacks your opponents with bursts of hammy love." Can be bought in the Tavern (extremely rare) or obtained by reaching wave 15 on "Servants Quarters" or "Glitterhelm Caverns" (however, it's been reported that the one from Glitterhelm does not count towards the achievement)

Fairy - "Heals yourself and your allies when you need it." Can be bought in the Tavern or obtained by reaching wave 15 on "Royal Gardens"

Imp - "Heals needy defenses, but drains your mana." Can be bought in the Tavern or obtained by reaching wave 15 on "Endless Spire"

Genie - "Grants mana to you when you damage your opponents." Can be bought in the Tavern or obtained by reaching wave 15 on "Hall of Court"

Hawk - "Hurls arrows at your opponents." Can be bought in the Tavern or obtained by reaching wave 15 on "The Ramperts"

Apprentice Animus - "Hurls HEROIC arrows at your opponents. Only will follow an Apprentice." Complete "The Summit" on "Insane" with the Apprentice (can be bought later in Tavern, but is extremely rare and expensive)

Squire Animus - "Hurls HEROIC arrows at your opponents. Only will follow a Squire." Complete "The Summit" on "Insane" with the Squire (can be bought later in Tavern, but is extremely rare and expensive)

Monk Animus - "Hurls HEROIC arrows at your opponents. Only will follow a Monk." Complete "The Summit" on "Insane" with the Monk (can be bought later in Tavern, but is extremely rare and expensive)

Apprentice Guardian -"Apprentice Guardian: increases nearby defense's damage or effectiveness." Complete "The Summit" on any difficulty other than "Insane" with the Apprentice

Huntress Guardian - "Huntress Guardian: increases nearby defense's attack rate." Complete "The Summit" on any difficulty other than "Insane" with the Huntress

Squire Guardian - "Squire Guardian: increases nearby defense's damage resistance." Complete "The Summit" on any difficulty other than "Insane" with the Squire

Monk Guardian - "Monk Guardian: increases nearby defense's effective range." Complete "The Summit" on any difficulty other than "Insane" with the Monk

All the pets for this achievement can be purchased from the Tavernkeep Shop. However, certain types of pets are more common than others. In some cases, a few of the pets below do not appear very often in the shop.

Tavern Shop

Items are restocked when the player completes a map.
Survival mode restocks the item shop after every 5 rounds
Failing a map does not restock the item shop.

The easiest/fastest way to get common pet types (Hawk, Serpent, Dragon, Tiger, and Gryphon) is to play Assault (Challange of Endless Spires) on Easy diffculty then look at the shop.

From experience: The chance of a (rare) pet to appear in the shop will increase if you play on later maps at a high difficulty ( example: Summit and Bonus Glitter-helm Cave on Insane) Throughout my game time in D&D , I've seen the shop offering fairies and genies.

Here are the list of possible nicknames for the pets.

Every hero can equip one Pet. These pets are either bought from the Tavern, or rewarded to you for completing certain Campaign Levels and Challenges. Much like Equipment, each Pet comes with stats that can boost that of your Heroes. Some pets can also attack monsters, while others have unique abilities.

A list of pets, along with their unlock conditions is available on the Dungeon Defenders Wiki - Familiars - Dungeon Defenders Wiki
