How to unlock the Endless Day achievement in Dungeon of the Endless - Definitive Guide

This achievement must be obtained on 1/21, which means you have two ways to go about it. You can wait until January 21st, or you can re-set the time on your Xbox One. To change the date, unhook your One from the internet then do a hard re-set (hold the power button down for ten seconds). You should now be able to go into Settings and change the date. I don't know that the year matters, but I chose 1/21/2017.

You will have a new character available who has some pretty nice skills, so you might not want to leave this for last like I did. If you keep him alive for three floors and/or finish the game with him, he will become permanently unlocked like your others. I don't think it matters which pod you use, but I stuck with the Escape Pod on Too Easy.

One thing to be aware of - the description of this achievement is a bit deceiving. You don't have to just "play" on 1/21; you must win a game, so instead of the two minutes I was expecting, it was closer to two hours. Also, the achievement didn't fire when I finished the game. It was not until I went back online, turned my Xbox off and on, then opened the game again that I received the achievement, so it's a bit buggy.

I've just won a game and the special character Esseb Tarosh died during the run - no achievement.

Don't Xbox ONE achievements only unlock when connected to the internet?

So it wouldn't pop until you're back online, so I don't think that counts as buggy.

Thanks for clarification on needing to beat the game, because I tried this method a few weeks back and it didn't pop after a few floors so just assumed I HAD to wait until the actual Jan 21st.

That's right. I went online, but it didn't fire, so I had to turn it off and on. The same thing happened to me with the refreezerator, too. I finished the level but didn't get the achievement. It wasn't until I came back to the game a few days later that it fired. The game is very buggy. :)

The logic for this achievement is probably identical to the steam version of the game. Namely, you only need to start the game on 1/21 and you can finish it whenever to have the achievement pop. As stated, you do need to win the game in order for it to pop and not just play.

Regarding buggy popping, mine popped silently at game completion. I thought it bugged too but when I went to my achievements it was already marked as complete.

Same. Played today, 1/21/19, no 'endless day'

Here's the times I played for reference what did not work:

Played approx. 2:00 AM to 5:00 AM, US central time,
saved & quit halfway.

Completed the other half approx. 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

B1ue, what do you mean by 'new character available' & is this required
for the achievement.

Do you need to beat the game WITH the event character?

EDIT : The new character MUST be used, either in a dungeon where they are found or start in.

^ thanks.

please update the guide to REQUIRED to use Esseb Tarosh on the date.

I'm outta time for another run. but I started a saved game with him today.
I'll report back whether BAD T0AST is correct that you can finish it on a later day.

Legend has it that he's still playing the endless dungeon and he'll never report back.

It's been almost 4 hours now, I'm on Too Easy, yet I still have 3-4 more floors. Is it supposed to take this long?

Well I guess it doesn't matter now, lost the crystal. Wow, this is a true Roguelike, not a Roguelite, there doesn't seem to be any permanent progress or upgrades that save.

For a difficulty called "Too Easy", it gets pretty hard on the higher floors.

When I was introduced to the game I was told the difficulties should be called hard and very hard, it's a difficult game to be fair but runs do get a lot quicker as you become familiar with it.

For anyone trying this that is new to the game I'd recommend following the walkthrough, it gives a lot of good advice and should help you win a game. Just make sure you use the special hero Esseb Tarosh

Used and unlocked the new character in solo, but I cannot beat game on top easy difficulty. Closed game and reopened and no Achievement still. I'm assuming you must win

OK, after reading the walkthrough, I am much better at the game now. So I successfully completed a playthrough.

The game basically teaches you nothing, so the walkthrough was a big help.

Just to clarify, since the event goes from January 21st and ends on January 25th (midnight CET) you can get the achievement during this time, I started and finished a game on January 24th and it unlocked just fine. You don't have to do this just on January 21st.

Just keep in mind that Esseb Tarosh has to survive till the end. I got him killed on floor 10 on an earlier run and didn't get the achievement.

The bugs really aren’t helping. Third run where my character just cannot move after getting stuck on something

Turns out you may only have to start the run on the correct day.

I started the run on the 21st, I cleared the first 3 floors and permanently unlocked the endless character while still on the 21st.

However, the run took 5 hours [my first time playing] and i finished it well into the 22nd, yet still got the achievement.

NOTE: I didn't save and quit, nor did I use quick resume, it was a single session.

Maybe all you really need to do is unlock the character on the correct day, and finish a run with that character alive?

NOTE 2: I only completed the run because i encountered a glitch at two of the merchants. When selling gear to them, an item didn't get removed from my inventory which allowed me to abuse the hell out of it to get over 10K food and 20k industry so I could max out my team and buy anything i wanted [though after a few teammate deaths and me replacing members when I'd finished unlocking them, i still ran out of food XD]

Here is the description of the of the guide provided by the developers for this achievement on steam:

DURATION OF THE IN-GAME EVENTS

The event starts on January 21st and ends on January 25th (midnight CET).

Dungeon of the Endless

How to unlock the archivist, Esseb Tarosh: you need to start a new game of Dungeon of the Endless. The hero will be available in your pool right away, for the duration of the event. Like any other heroes in DotE, you need to survive at least three floors with the hero or finish the game with it. If you manage to do so, once the event ends, you will be able to keep the Esseb Tarosh in your pool of heroes.

How to unlock the “Endless Day” achievement: you need to start a new game in any difficulty, hire the archivist hero and keep it alive, and complete the game. Make sure you start and complete a game between January 21st and January 25th in order to get the achievement.

First, you need to unlock Esseb Tarosh, who becomes available 12am CET January 21. Play through and win a game with him by 12am CET January 26. You get to keep the character after unlocking him!

Note that you can adjust your computer clock to the appropriate time frame and unlock this.

I tried this a few times before I got it to work so hopefully this guide helps someone else.

I played this on an original Xbox One on 9/8/2023. I went into settings and told it to forget my wireless network then hard reset the Xbox (held the power button down for 5+ seconds). Turned Xbox back on and went into setting and changed the date to 1/22/17 (I tried 1/21/23 and 1/21/21, and it didn’t work). I stayed offline and opened the game, chose Ken Massoqui and Esseb Tarosh on Escape Pod on Too Easy difficulty.

I played the whole game in one sitting. If I had to walk away, I left the game on and didn’t quit out. I made sure to keep everyone alive. During the game I recruited two more people (Kreyang and Elise). Once I finished the game (completed floor 12), I reviewed the stat screens and then quit out of the game and went back to settings and reconnected to my wireless network.

Once Xbox live was connected, I opened the game back up. During the loading of the game, Xbox said it had two sets of data for my game: one from 1/22/17 and one from 9/8/23. I selected 1/22/17, nervously. I looked at my stats which seemed to be intact and saw that the Endless Day achievement had silently popped. :)
