How to unlock the View From The Top achievement in Dungeon Siege III - Definitive Guide

To get to level 30 in this game there's no way around the fact that you're going to have to grind a little bit to accomplish it. Completing every sidequest will not be sufficient enough but in conjunction with fighting every enemy you come across will help in the scheme of things.

The best place to do this, in my opinion, is the East Forest right before you fight the final boss. There is a save point within the forest after fighting off a few dark archons and your first daeva. Make a save here and then make your way to the final boss, killing all the dark archons and daevas along the way. When you get close to the boss (you'll know because the scenery gets a little darker and your ally will say something) just make a 180 and some of the enemies will spawn again. The dark archons aren't worth a ton of XP, but the rarer daevas are worth quite a chunk. You can keep running back-and-forth between the save point and the final boss area as you see fit, though your first pass through the forest will offer more XP than subsequent runs. To remedy this, just save your game and then reload the same save to make all the enemies appear as they should.

You can try grinding in other areas of the game, but there are hidden level caps in each spot and therefore they have less of a payoff when you can just get all of your grinding done in one go. Also, it is much easier to get XP on lesser difficulties unless you just love the unnecessary challenge.

Edit: Downloading the DLC will allow your character to level up beyond level 30 naturally during the course of the DLC. Whether you want to fork out that extra dough or not is up to you ;).

To reach level 30 I had to earn 350,000 XP.

I was playing as Lucas, and had also completed all 28 side-quests (see 'Perfectionist' for details on how to earn).

I entered The Spire around lvl 26, and I faced the last boss having just levelled-up to lvl 29.

I earnt this by not going for the kill straightaway - without spoiling anything, the last fight allows you to decide when to attack the main boss - should you decide otherwise, in true video-game fashion, lots of minions are dispatched your way.
I made sure I killed sufficient minions to get that lvl 30, then started attacking the last boss.

In theory you could farm XP here for as long as you need, so bear that in mind if you need it.

A word of warning - AFAIK you do NOT get any XP for killing the final boss.

This Cheevo will ping as soon as you level up.

Good luck!

Well, I started the similar area as you as a 26, and it pinged for me!

Have you done ALL 28 quests?

Also, as guide states, you can farm XP...

Yeah, I checked my completed quests against the guide on TA.

I'm not disagreeing with your guide or anything. Just providing additional insight. Whether you grind on the end boss mobs or earlier in the game, you still have to grind and that can be really, really boring and slow. :P

good place for leveling up is the east forest after leaving the chapterhouse for the final battle,i was lev 27 leaving the chapterhouse and just walked around the forest and enemies would just keep falling from the sky and climbing over ledges,i walked all the way to just before the boss then walked back to chapterhouse going on every path,by the time i got back to the boss again i was lev 30,took about 15 minutes for the 3 level ups

I ended up doing exactly the same thing stefb42 did, going from the chapterhouse to the bridge, back and forth killing enemies. The smaller archon enemies were only worth 200exp or so, but the bigger ones near the bridge were worth 1000 or more.

I was at the last encounter at level 26 so farming the minion waves for 4 levels seems risky, especially on hardcore level. I eventually found a spot between the two save points in the east turret (Spire) where I clear a group that includes either an azunite lieutenant or handmaiden, then I save and load the new save. I will report back once I ding 30.

Yes, you are correct. There exist level caps based on your position in the plot.

I did quite some grinding before the final boss battle and reached level 30, but I didn't get the achievement. I reloaded my save game and retried several times, but nothing worked. I played on easy, could this be the reason?

Firiath - you sound very unlucky. I'm sure it popped for me after the last boss battle - copy a save and then complete the final fight?
Difficulty level should not be an issue at all.

Okay, I just saw I got the achievement after all. Although I could swear it didn't pop it's in my list. So maybe it was just my Xbox being crazy. =/

Does the DLC help towards this at all?

Yeah - I started the DLC after the main game not long ago, currently at lvl 34 or 35, so the DLC should tip you over if you need a boost.

After doing all sidequests except the one in the Spire (called Dungeon Siege) I entered the Spire around 24. I am now on my way to what I assume is the final fight, since I killed the two Archons, and am only just now 26. This is in Hardcore mode, if that's of any use.

Basically, if people plan to get this achievement, grind early and often on mobs. Quests don't cut it even if you do all of them, and EXP really slows down after 20, and packs of mobs get smaller and smaller.

Annoying.

@Morathor - the game seems to have an in-built filter regarding XP and lvls - it seems if you try and lvl up beyond a "certain parameter" you get no XP. Solution? It seems to be - advance and the block resets and you can start earning again. Makes sense, as if you spammed the levelling early on the game would be way too easy.

Also, I've gone through it twice now and it seems that you can only get nr lvl 30 on the very last stage, very near the end-boss.

Perfect game design, or annoying? I'd say the former, but each to their own.
As my guide advises, you can simply farm the 'minion waves' during the final boss fight - this is how I got the Cheevo.

Hope you resolve your issue.

I had just turned level 29 at the start of the boss fight. I just ground out the enemeis he spawns to earn this. I was playing normal and still managed to get

Can be obtained in 2 ways.

1. Play honestly and after 8-10 hours of completing all the quests (main and side) you will come to the forest on the way to the last boss, do not go to the boss, just run through the forest from cover to cover and farm mobs for 10-30 minutes and achieve your.

2. If there is a friend with a save in the forest and level 29 and a half, he creates a private session and calls you. You need to do the same thing as in point 1 only with two people. Upon reaching level 30, both will receive the achievement or only the one who connected if the host already has this achievement.
