How to unlock the I love the smell of Catapult fire! achievement in Dungeons 3 - Definitive Guide
Most of the mission’s normal processes can be circumvented here.
First, get an economy going. Research Hero upgrade, naggas, and a military population increase. Once you have enough evil points, upgrade your spells.
When you have enough gold get at least a couple of naggas, along with some orcs. Go through the north portal and make your way to the east.
Go gently and attempt to tease out unit a few at a time. Don’t worry about losing units - if you do, buy replacements and send them through the portal to join up with the main army.
Once you have control of the catapult, send everyone except Thalya and a couple of naggas back home.
All there is to do now is slowly make your way west. Go slowly so your fog of war just shows enemies, and then target the enemy groups as and when the catapult becomes available. First target the Evil Essence Pool and then the middle catapult, followed by the Western one.
Once complete (in under 30 mins) you’ll have your achievement. Save throughout (just in case) but you should be able to do it in around 20-22 without much effort.
Beyond this, rolling through the rest of the mission is easy as the catapults are completely OP.
(And for the most northern objective, when you can target the building as that ends the mission before all the enemies are dead).
This is done in the "Once Upon A Catapult" level. 30 minutes can be tricky if you don't know what to expect. However it can be done in under 25 minutes. There is a snowball effect where capturing the first catapult allows you to use that for the next catapult's defences and so on, thus you will need less time to capture subsequent catapults.
What you want to do is research only Horde creatures (Orcs, Goblins, Naga) and aim for 10 creatures with a good mix e.g. 4 Goblins, 3 Orcs, 3 Naga, although you can start your skirmishes to capture the catapults safely with 6-7 creatures. You can go with 5 but expect losses, which frankly are easily replaced early on. You also want to research the bare minimum to get the Demon Gate spell to quickly get back to the dungeon to heal and defend against invaders. Demon Strength and Meteor Shower can also be handy but you'll need to excavate mana if you want to spam spells.
Take the top exit, work your way south to the eastern-most catapult then westwards to the other 2 catapults.
Once the 3rd catapult is captured, the trophy will pop.
