How to unlock the Above and Beyond the Call achievement in Dust An Elysian Tail - Definitive Guide
Apparently you can get infinite gold by obtaining 256 of any one material. When you sell all that at once, you don't lose the items and you get the gold anyway.
Infinite Gold = Infinite HEALING ITEMS
I recommend the burgers and hotdogs for healing items, but that's just me.
MOD EDIT: Although this is not technically a full solution, the Reported Content Team think it's helpful enough (along with some great comments) to stay. Thanks.
Tough will start off hard, but eventually gets easier when you level up, if you ever come across an area and you find yourself needing to use Health Items all the time, exit it and grind in an area that you can manage, this is what I started to do during Sorrowing Meadow, the enemies were too hard in that area when I came to it, so I went back and leveled up a bit.
You level up by defeating enemies, the higher the combo you have, the better bonus XP you'll get, so try and keep the combo going in each area.
I would recommend saving any Revivals you have until the end boss, I found the end boss the hardest part of the game, while he is easy enough, he is going to take up a load of your health items and possibly trap you at some point, so be careful!
If you die, just press start and Load Game, this mean you'll still have that Revival and you'll be able to do whatever you died at with more caution.
There is no New Game + or whatever in this game, so you're best to start it off on Tough if you don't want to be putting in an extra 15-20 hours just for this achievement.
If anyone wants level references, I was at LV. 50 by the time I had completed the game, it can even go higher than this level, so if you need the extra health, attack or whatever, just keep leveling up!
Hardest enemies in the game were Evil Knife Hands (get easier if you level up, pretty much, don't give these guys a chance to fight back, be on the offensive all the time) and Phantoms (they get easier if you level up a bit, its just because of the amount of health they have, so it takes ages, and they will summon a whole pile of zombies, including bomb zombies which can easily one hit kill you, the Phantom itself can only be destroyed by magic attacks (B then hold Y), use the zombies below to regenerate the magic bar if needed).
For attack methods, use the Y attack and press B as much as you can, make sure to keep an eye on Dust as he'll start to go red when the attack is going to hurt you, the jump and press Y mid air attack is also useful for enemies such as Giants.
Note, there is X attack to, I would do a combo like this sometimes X > Y, this will launch the enemy up and a combo like this is perfect for the Evil Knife Hands enemy.
Anyways, this difficulty definitely isn't hard at all, in a Hack n Slash genre, this could be classed as Normal to most regular players, players who don't play these genres much may struggle a bit, but it is definitely one of the easier hard modes in my opinion, so it is doable, just don't give up. For anyone interested, Trials, Side Quests etc are definitely doable within this difficulty so you won't have to look at another playthrough unless you go beyond the point of no return in the last area without doing those things.
For those of you wondering what needs leveling up the most, use either of these options:
DEF > Fidget > ATK > HP
ATK > DEF > Fidget > HP
HP is the least of your worries as when you rescue friends, you will unlock more HP, please look at that achievement for locations of friends, please note that you won't be able to access all of them at the start of the game, you will have to unlock more skills for some, you also need four keys in order to open any cage.
There is also really helpful items that you can craft to raise stats even more, so I recommend getting the transceiver when that quest is given to you.
Hp you need but not greatly, no more than 3000 and youll be fine.
I managed to level up every 2 loadings and i did it from 40 to 52.
For the final boss, I equiped also two rings that gave me x2 & x3 to fidget. I finished with more than 10 000 for the fidget capacity.
With this and the massive use of the fireball, the final boss was a piece of cake.
When you reach 'Sorrowing meadow', you will be given a task to retrieve four items from four mansions. The one we are looking for is called 'Samachua mansion', which can be found in the top right of the map. However, to get this area, we need the Iron grip. This handy, see what I did there ;), piece of equipment can be found in the 'Bardel mansion' which is found at the bottom left of the map.
After the Iron grip is collected, go to the objective marker at the top right of the map (Samachua Mansion). Carry out your regular business of cleaning out the mansion and come back outside, this is where our exp trick starts.
To the left of the mansion there is a rock giant/ogre creature. Each time you kill this creature you are awarded 1000exp. He is extremely easy to kill, just hold X to block and stun him, then give him everything you got. Then simply re-enter and exit the mansion again to respawn him.
This method takes no more than 10 seconds and the only difficult thing is blocking.
Another benefit here is picking up gold, food items and materials. The materials can then be sold to the shopkeeper to the right of the mansion.
If you are anything like me, you will make the odd mistake when blocking and lose a chunk of health. If this happens quickly roll away from our giant friend and heal up. There is also a convenient save spot to the left of the mansion, so I recommend saving to prevent loosing all your hard work.
Note that you need to press instead of as the user is on a PS.
You can use this money to buy Revival Stones, Treasure Keys, Food Items & equipment upgrades.
To me the differences between Tough and Hardcore are big. If you want the Platinum at its easiest, play on Tough. If you like challenges and want to get that feeling of accomplishment, then try Hardcore. It's not overly difficult. Just remember to kill all enemies for the EXP to level up faster. Once you complete the game, the trophy will pop during the ending cutscene.
Tips: I got through the majority of the game buying only "Mysterious Wall Chicken" from the merchant. They are cheapest for their worth. What I mean, you are getting more Health per coin used. Which is always helpful for when you need money to buy items or craft items. All enemy drops can be sold to the merchant and they will be "marked". Once they are "marked", the merchant will replenish his supply of the "marked" items. In case you need more enemy drops for those rare super equipment, they can be bought instead of grinded for.
Also I had a lot of trouble with the Necromancers in Chapter 3 - Love. They summon zombies and Bomber zombies. In Hardcore, they seem to instant kill you so watch out for these Bombers. Necromancers cannot be physically attacked with Ahrah. You can only use Fidget's Projectiles. This can be especially hard if Fidget isn't leveled up too high. A good place to train to level up a bit is where I did the That's More Like It in Chapter 3 - Love. Nice bunch of enemies and good to train and restart map spawn by going up out of the airway.
Start the game on tough or hardcore, and do not change the difficulty once you've started. There's no achievement specifically for hardcore, so play on tough if you want to make it easier. You'll take more damage in higher difficulties, you'll heal less at save points, and energy is recovered more slowly.
Obviously you'll want to avoid being hit. Food items are limited and they're used up very quickly if you let yourself get hit too much . You'll most likely die few more times early on. Dying can be frustrating if you've made some progress and keep getting sent back to the checkpoint. Don't be afraid to backtrack just to level up.
Combos
The best way to keep from dying, is to never give them the chance to hit you. Use the launch combo often to get them off the ground and combine Fidget's projectile with dust storm to juggle them.
My go-to combo for most of the game was +
launches any enemies in front of you, fires Fidget's projectile, + combines with the projectile to do massive AOE damage. All the melee attacks give you plenty of energy to keep firing projectiles. Keep all enemies on one side of you so you can't get hit from behind.
Jumping and doing +HOLD is good for getting around enemies while doing good damage.
Against single targets, I use .
launches, followed by 3 quick melees, and at the end throws them into the ground for huge damage. After the throw, there's enough time to walk up to launch them and do the exact same combo over and over until they're dead.
Stats
I stacked HP and defense early on. This allowed me to take a few extra hits. This was probably wasn't the best strategy, as it took forever to kill monsters, thus increasing the amount of time/opportunity for enemies to hit me. On higher difficulties you die in a few hits anyway and you use up your food items way too fast. It's better to concentrate on fast kills and avoid taking damage.
Fidget is probably the best stat you can upgrade. The projectiles track enemies, juggle them, and hit them many times for lots of damage. Projectiles might not seem to do much damage at first, but as you level it up you'll see huge damage increases. I relied heavily on projectiles. Remember to combine them with dust storm or + in the air. I didn't invest much in attack. Most of my attack and defense came from items. My stat priorities when leveling up were Fidget > HP > Defense > Attack
Shops
Be on the look out for shops and visit each one to look for upgrades. Each chapter ups the monster difficulty significantly. I hit the wall hard going from chapter 1 to 2. However, there was a shop early in chapter 2 where I bought some new equipment that gave huge stat bonuses to attack and defense which made it a lot easier.
Blueprints
Dropped blueprints will allow you to craft better items than what's likely to be available in shops. Make sure to catalog all your materials so they'll be readily available to buy from the shop whenever you want to craft something. It's worth it to find the communicator (side quest after finding the blacksmith) to craft anywhere without having to return to the blacksmith. Once you start crafting items with 200+ stats in Chapter 3, the game becomes very easy. I recommend items with Fidget multipliers. These will add insane damage to Fidget's projectile attacks.
It will be a little difficult at first. First of all, download physical. Siludasta. then xp and protection. and finally the magic of the fidget. After the fuse, a new location with dungeons will open. you can have a good swing there. as in the sorowwoing meadow location. Before going to the volcanic zone, it’s better to level up to level 40. Collect more loot and make new armor and attack upgrades for the dust. it will be easier to live this way.
Maximize attack, then fidget, then defense, max HP only as a passer. There is virtually no point in having a large amount of HP.
Don’t save too much money, always collect/buy heals.
Don't forget to craft armor, etc.
At first, Fidget may seem useless and there is no point in upgrading her attack. but this is far from the case. And if you don’t upgrade it, you will be stuck in at least one location for a long time.
