How to unlock the Get the Bozak achievement in Dying Light - Definitive Guide
While Bozak's challenge is the exact same with every retry, this is still just a basic guideline, not a walkthrough, play it and experience it for yourself. It's not particularly difficult, but can be tough for less experienced players or a very uncoordinated group.
Suggestions and Tips:
**The challenge can be played solo or with a group of up to 4, a larger group doesn't make the challenge harder per se, just reduces the amount of time for each trial and for other achievements. Playing in co-op is still recommended, as it allows you and your team to be more flexible, and dying won't be as bad if you can get someone to pick you back up.
**You can't bring weapons or equipment into the trial the first time, you can only use what you find in the arena. The Bozak Bow can be brought into the arena, but only after completing the trials to unlock it.
**The challenge consists of 20 trials or waves, some are timed from the start, some only get a timer about halfway through. The trials all consist of things like killing enemies, running through checkpoints, disarming bombs, and most if not all of these things spawn in the same spots every time. Though there are some unique challenges, these will also remain the same every time.
**You have 3 attempts to complete the full 20 trials in one shot. Failing to complete an objective in time or you and your whole party dying will cost you an attempt, and you will restart from the current trial. Failing three times will require you to restart from the beginning.
**Playing with a different number of players may affect certain challenges, usually the amount of time you have to complete each trial, possibly other things like total enemies killed and such.
**Keep an eye out for a few scattered chests that will contain weapons and equipment that you can use. They'll look like the longer supply chests and are marked by the drop icon on your minimap. They're especially useful in later waves as they contain explosives and guns that are good for killing the later enemies, like the spitters and suiciders, from range.
I completed Bozak's challenge with a friend, going in almost completely in the dark (thanks in part to there being no guide here.) We beat it after only restarting from the beginning twice, helping us learn and complete the objectives faster, in about 1.5-2 hours or so. I don't remember our official time for all 20 waves, it's probably in the 30-50 minutes range or so, I'll have to check. Having two players definitely helps make the trial smoother as it allowed us to help correct each other's mistakes, like falling to our deaths during the parkour segments and needing to open the bomb containers and chests. The achievement popped after the final trial was completed and the final time screen showed up.
This is my first proper solution, so any feedback or tips are appreciated.
This achievement is much easier with the glitch that allows you to bring weapons and equipment into the arena. (Thanks Vudix, for making me aware of it).
The most important piece of hardware you need is your grappling hook. Besides that, things that will help you tremendously are: 2-3 upgraded melee weapons, a high damage shotgun (you get shells inside the arena. Use this against the Demolishers and Bolters), around 20-25 med kits (but you get plenty in the arena as well). Don't worry about repairing items.
The video that, in my opinion, best explains how to set the glitch is this one I found on YouTube:
Some things that the video does not explain, and the reason why I'm writing this:
- Once the weapons have 'glitched' and are in your 'special backpack', they will remain glitched as long as you do not remove them from the backpack (do not put them into your stash, drop or throw them.) Find more info about how to handle glitched weapons below
- That means that after having switched difficulty to Hard Mode to be able to set the glitch, feel free to switch back to Story Mode before going into the arena. Also feel free to do other things, like continue the story or quit the game.
- All 4 members of your team can and should bring (at a minimum) the glitched items listed above into the host's game. (Anyone who doesn't, will essentially be dead weight, who merely causes additional enemies to spawn.)
Additional Info:
- You are allowed to die while fighting Tahir. The glitch still works afterwards.
- The video says to do the glitch setup in Normal Mode until you reach the red door. But you can do it in Story Mode and then switch to Hard Mode at the red door.
- When you drop stacks during the glitch, you need to drop the entire stack. Otherwise, when you pick it back up, it will combine with the unglitched portion in your inventory and the entire stack will be unglitched.
- Similarly, do not add any item to a glitched stack. That will unglitch the entire stack. So, do not pick up med kits in the arena unless you have run out of med kits! Best if you don't pick up anything in the arena.
Finally, here is a video I found on YouTube that shows you what to expect during the arena trials:
Of course they patch a fix 6 years later, once I am 39 minutes from completing game
Yesterday we were so frustrated when our items disappeared after the patch, my friend logged and I went to finish my 2nd to last chievo (Headshot kill 10 of Rias's men with the bow). I chapter selected to "Siblings", met with Jade, then went to the School and zoned into the mission instance. Once I killed 10 and got my achievement, I quit to menu to chapter select again to something so I could be in the main map and go to Bozak challenge again. But like most other times I tried to Chapter select, the option was not there. The only way I got it to work before was to play through the mission until I hit a checkpoint, or worst case, finished the mission. I was more than fed up, so I simply quit the game and left my character in the Siblings mission.
Today my friend and I decided to try for the Last Man Standing achievement legit. Because I knew my character was stuck in the School instance and I would be unable to run to start a Bozak challenge quickly, I asked him to load in and invite me. To our extreme surprise, I loaded into his game with all items from my special inventory (see video above, obtained from the "Museum" mission during kill Tahir part). After all the trouble trying to get this to work yesterday, I was not going to complain, or do anything other then run through the challenges before something broke again. I dropped him one of my spare items (2300 damage crowbar), and we proceeded to own these challenges. I had a 3800 damage police baton (really any weapon with 800+ damage on it will insta-kill the virals) and a 3300 damage pump shotgun. We breezed through all challenges and he was able to get his Last Man Standing achievement. When we hit "restart" and it loaded us back to the beginning, my items were gone and we both had nothing again. I decided to try to repeat this and get my items back in, as it made things so much easier. I quit to menu, he reinvited me, and again I loaded in without my special inventory items. Being as stubborn as I was, I figured I would try again before we were forced to run through this with the garbage the game gives you in the challenges. Wanting it to be exactly how we did it the first time, I quit to menu and then loaded my save choosing "Play", "Play Campaign", then continued mission so it loaded me back into the school. Then we both quit to menu again. I dashboarded at that point. I reloaded game and he loaded his save into the Bozak challenge. Once I was in the game menu, he invited me into his game. This took 2 attempts, but I loaded in the final time with my items again. Sadly I did not have the 2nd weapon (crowbar) that I had dropped for him previously, but still had my shotgun and 3800 damage police baton. We ran through all challenges easily, using shotgun to own goons in 1 shot, and demolishers in 4.
I am not sure how specific this has to be, but the basic part was he loaded game from dashboard, loaded his save, loaded into bozak. I started game to menu, and he invited me while I was in menu, NOT in game. None of his items were with him since he loaded in himself, but mine were when I joined him. If this does not work, try it once or twice if needed as it is not consistent. If it still does not work, try to have the person bringing the items have a save in the middle of a specific mission. If that still doesn't work and it is very specific to what we did, try to have the person bringing in items have a save currently in a mission in an instance (siblings zones you into the school, Museum has you zone into the Rias stronghold, and others I am not remembering).
Sorry for the super long comment, and wish I had this 100% figured out but since the patch on 5/5/22, the current way of bringing in items to the challenge has been fixed. I hope others are able to get this to work for the completion of their challenges, Last Man Standing, and timed run for arrow recipie chievo as well.
I wish I had an exact solution, but this seems to be what worked for us. Good luck!
I just unlocked this and 'Things that go Ka-Boom' (which is basically the same as this one but with a time limit depending on the number of players - please check that page for details). Based on what I've read online, the glitch that used to let you bring the grapple hook and your weapons from the campaign has been fixed since the update earlier this month (May 2022). So I unlocked both of these the old fashioned way.
Anyway, the point I want to make is this - the enemies in the Bozak horde get buffed if your campaign is set to Normal mode. To make them weaker and easier to kill, do the following
1) Exit the trial and go to the main campaign
2) Track a quest that is not the Bozak Horde or a DLC quarantine zone or Harran prison (so you can use one of the main campaign quests or the side quests. If you've done them all, a repeatable quest that doesn't fall into the above 3 categories, such as Stuffed Turtle should do)
3) Quit, then go to Main Menu > Play > Play Campaign > Advanced and choose 'Play and switch to Nightmare' mode
4) Enter the campaign and start the trial via the poster in the home base
Having the main campaign in Nightmare mode makes the enemies in the Bozak trial relatively weaker and easier to kill (apparently due to a glitch). If your campaign is in Normal mode, the enemies in the trial become buffed and harder to kill. This applies to virals, the goons and the Demolisher in the end.
I set my campaign to Nightmare before attempting the horde and was able to kill virals with a swing of my machete (I'm at legend level 15, with 5 points to my one handed weapons). When I tried it after switching campaign to Normal, the virals were a lot harder to kill (and even hit, cause they just got buffed).
Once you're done with the horde, you can change your gameplay back to Normal and continue on.
This is my first guide here and I hope this is helpful to someone who tries this in the future. The 2 cheevos were a pain in the neck to unlock, but like a hard boss in Dark Souls, it felt awesome to finally nail it after so many tries. Happy gaming 😎
For the first time it may take an hour and half.
Complete all 20 rounds of the new Bozak Challenges at the stadium to earn this trophy. You will also earn a new bow weapon which you will also need in order to earn the other trophies for this DLC. In order to get to the stadium look at your map and go to the tower safe house. Look for a Bozak poster on the wall and press on it to enter the stadium. Upon entering, you will have all your belongings stripped from you so any weapons or medkits you want to use must be found throughout the challenge arenas. There are three man stages to these challenges:
The Parking Garage
- Defuse the bomb
- Kill all virals
- Kill virals and defuse the bomb
- Reward stage kill the Bolters for medkits
- Defuse the bomb. After defusing the first one the others will be found in the second stage.
Indoor Office Reception Area
- Continue defusing the bombs from the last round
- Parkour Race checkpoint challenge
- Kill the Thugs
- Reward stage kill the Bolters for medkits
- Defuse the 2 bombs
- Parkour Race checkpoint challenge
- Throw the gas cans in the marked hole
- After completing the last challenge Demolishers (the big guys) will blow up and a new area will be revealed – take the zipline down to the elevator. And then kill all Virals that appear until the ride ends. When it ends open the doors by pressing to open the new area.
Outside Stadium
- Collect the weapons if you wish then press to open the gate and you'll have a Parkour Race checkpoint challenge
- Kill all Bolters before the time runs out
- Kill virals and then defuse the bomb when it appears on your map.
- Fill all the chutes – a Parkour challenge where you must run to each chute and press on it to deliver a package. I found this challenge to be the hardest as Hazmat zombies blow up and kill you if they are close to you. Tip: Use fireworks to distract the hazmat zombies and reach the chutes unharmed.
- Parkour Race checkpoint challenge
- Lockpick the container then disarm the bombs.
- Reward stage kill the Bolters for medkits
- Kill all enemies (Virals and Demolishers) Here is where the trophy will pop. TIP: A good way to inflict damage on the Berserkers at the end is by throwing everything you got at them. Not only your grenades, molotovs or bombs but also your machetes and bladed weapons. To throw your bladed weapons at him: double tap to aim it, then press to throw it. After killing him you can collect your thrown weapons to use on the second one as well.
- If solo you won and it's over but if in co-op, then kill your co-op partner(s) to get for Together Till the End
