How to unlock the Homo Homini Lupus Est achievement in Dying Light - Definitive Guide

This achievement is for saving 15 survivors from Rais's men in Harran.

As travel through the map, you will frequently encounter random events as seen in the video below by a flashing blue circular marker (shows up on minimap).

These markers can mean a number of things and are not always for rescuing a survivor from a Rais's men. They may also be for a street fight with two enemies, a rescue from a zombie or a random shop to buy and sell items.

Please note: this particular event seems to show up A LOT less frequently in the second area, once you leave the slums (Thanks RellikGod for the suggestion). I have also found this, and have used the fast travel map in the tower to head back to the slums to continue work on this achievement.
This particular event also shows up a lot less frequently once the game is complete (thanks Bleach XBA and Icromatiickzz).

*NEW TIP FROM Zaro Karos AS OF MAY 2021*
"I ended up restarting my save each time up till the Rais quest and the first encounter and was getting them faster and more consistently for the remaining 6. Not sure if something changed or what but looking at the unlock percentage this shouldn't be this difficult."

The counter appears to be glitchy as I have rescued 17 survivors and still says 73%. I have been checking each time I rescue and have not seen it go up since before I reached Old Tow. I would suggest trying to complete this before moving to Old Town.

For this achievement, we need to be rescuing a survivor from Rais's men. This random encounter can come in several forms. My video below shows me rescuing two survivors and being attacked by four of Rais's men. I have also encountered one survivor and three of Rais's men - this is much more common.

For those of you who have the following DLC, Warboy925 adds this helpful tip:
"You can also get this achievement in The Following......only difference is that I find its a lot easier!!

Just drive around and when you see a blue icon appear, if it is a rescue, they will say over the radio something like, "They are here to desecrate the altar, help me brothers!", or "The bandits are here, I need help"...........just know that the blue icons that indicate a rescue ALWAYS has a radio message asking for help!! And they are ALWAYS by an altar!

(Yes blue icon vendors and hunting tower zombie "rescues" have radio messages too, but it is easier to tell which event is which depending on the radio message")

Hunting Tower rescue (From Zombies) ALWAYS say "Hunting Stand", or "Hunting Tower" in the radio message, and vendors are pretty obvious with their message......"
Thanks for the tip!

TIPS:
- Use a gun! Using a gun makes this much easier as you can easily take down enemies at a distance. However, if you do not have one yet, see below for melee techniques.
-Take lots of medkits with you whenever you leave a safehouse. You never know when these random encounters will happen and it always pays to be stocked up in case you mess the fight up.
-Use your strongest weapon against Rais's men. They are very good at dodging and kicking.
-Dodge! These encounters are much easier if you are able to purchase the Dodge skill. It is the first skill you can purchase in the Agility Skill Tree. Use cn_RB to Dodge when the enemy is about to attack, and you should be able to get a few hits in before they recover.
-Kick! Often a kick using cn_LB can interrupt an enemy attack leaving him open for a counter attack. However, some attacks cannot be interrupted.
-Fight dirty. Often when you come across one survivor with three of Rais's thugs, there will be one sitting down. Always take him out first as you can easily take him out before he gets up, and before the others have a chance to attack. This instantly evens the odds to 2v1.
-There is usually at least one in the group who can sit back and throw knives at you, so try to take care of that guy early too

These is my own video I uploaded from my own gameplay.

you may want to add that they tend to appear a lot more in the first area. I haven't been finding them nearly as often in the second.

@Rellikgod - thanks I just got to the second area yesterday and I'm not finding them as frequently either. I was going to update the solution to say this anyway, but got tied up at work.

@Elite - not sure. Haven't completed the game yet.

Yeah that is probably the case. But it doesn't explain why a few of us have rescued several different events worth of survivors without the counter going up. I think it's just a glitchy achievement all round

Worst....achievement....ever.
Last one I need, I have 3 different saves, early in the story, later in the story and after the story. I just can't seem to find them. Run around for hours without any luck.
Is there any sweet spots or something like it, because this is getting frustrating.

Not really that I have found. I just ran around collecting all the collectibles and investigating every blue icon and eventually I got my last one. They can pretty much turn up anywhere

If I start a new game+ will it reset the counter? I hit a point where I needed one left and I didn't save and turned off my Xbox and it reset me back to 80% once I turned it back on.

By Murkface13 on 22 Feb 2015 17:01
It was a bit like that for me too. I ran around all areas doing nothing but trying to find them. I was also unsuccessful. I then started to go for the collectibles and investigated all random events while doing so and that's when I got it.
I'm in a new game plus now and I can't stop finding them in the slums so try doing that if you're really stuck. You will lose all quest progress if you stay a new game though.

I'm glitched on 93%. Done 4 now and counter not increasing. Is there a workaround at all? Does starting a new game need you to get all 15 again or does it share progress?

By Roose91 on 09 Mar 2015 02:38
My counter would not go up during the late stages in old Town. I found once I finished the game it went up again while I was running around picking up collectibles. But yeah at some point during the second area I had trouble getting it to go up. Some people have commented above saying starting a new game helped them get it. You do not lose the progress gained if you start a new game.

As an addition to the tips for the fight: I think the easiest way to get rid of Rais's men is to use the exploding throwing stars. They kill them with one hit.

I can't get these to appear at all, I am almost done with the story, but not quite (92%), and in 3 hours of playing I had only one of these appear, it always seems to be the events with the huge zombies fighting with npcs, has anyone got an effective way of making these appear??? I need another 5, and then I can finish this game off finally.

I would suggest trying to get it before you leave sounds as they are far more rare in old Town. Also I found a few in old Town and they never added to my progress meter until after I finished the game. I also tried to go back to slums after being in old Town and when I found one, it also didn't add to my counter.
I don't know if being in someone else's game and doing a rescue would work as the game is glitchy as in coop for achievements.

0

By Findlayfiend on 05 Apr 2015 06:18
If you double press the guide button and snap your achievements, you can see your percentage progress toward unlocking the achievement. It *should* go up each time you rescue someone, but for several reasons stated above, it may not.

Just a note: It doesn't have to be just Rais's men, I beat the game and I was sitting at 60%........so I decided to start The Following......I was heading to a quest when I saw a blue icon..........I went to the area and found 3 Bandits beating on a guy, I killed the bandits, talked to the guy, and my progress went to 66%.......So it seems rescues in The Following count as well!!

Bumping this tip from April 2015 by scotwolf2:

“ Luckily I managed to get the rescues needed on far left hand side of map, top and bottom.
Over couple of hours running from top left safe house near tunnel using the roads down to bottom left, near where you go to sewers also near quarantine area and running back to the top. I managed to get two spawns near top left and four near bottom left.
Basically just running up n down and skipping the night at safe house.”

By Lliryn Dres on 04 Feb 2015 22:26
I think I have figured out why the in-game counter is different from the achievement counter, at least in my case (there could be additional reasons, knowing Techland and their glitches). It seems as though the achievement tracker only counts 1 survivor when you save 2 at the same time, but the in-game counter correctly counts it as 2. I guess the achievement tracker is counting the number of "events" rather than the number of survivors. I tested this a couple of times in my game and that's what is happening for me.

Also, starting a new game doesn't reset your progress, it keeps going up as it should. I'm not sure about New Game + yet as I haven't tested that.

I've not left the slums yet but I'm at the part of the game where that's the next step.
I've spent two hours yesterday and another three today and I got loads of random events but only one rescue say out of 50 events.... bloody frustrating.
I'm going to next area tomorrow and will use fast travel if need be to get back to slums and if all else fails I'll complete game and do ng+.
If anyone has any help or advice I'd be grateful,

also if I join someone else game who has just started it, would it count if we rescued in co-op

Haven't had a single Rais encounter within the following dlc, 100% the following and an extra few hours driving around. Currently, I've gotten about 6 encounters done in the slums after 12 hours of running around facepalm

By Zaro Karos on 09 May 2021 04:42
Just adding my observations; I didn’t notice a difference in encounter frequency when I transitioned to Old Town. In fact, I found it a bit easier because it was a smaller map and the encounters were more densely packed and easier to travel between. Rais thugs assaulting a citizen was still a more uncommon event than the others, but I found it more convenient in OT. Once I got there, I didn’t advance the main story until I was finished with this achievement.

I write this in case anyone has already progressed the story to Old Town or are frustrated searching in the Slums.

I was adamant I was getting this done before leaving the slums, as people were saying either didn't spawn regularly or counter didn't work whilst in old town.
I must of spent 15 hours over three/four days trying to get nine rescues I needed, but lucky if I got one rescue in 100 spawns.
Luckily I managed to get the rescues needed on far left hand side of map, top and bottom.
Over couple of hours running from top left safe house near tunnel using the roads down to bottom left, near where you go to sewers also near quarantine area and running back to the top. I managed to get two spawns near top left and four near bottom left.
Basically just running up n down and skipping the night at safe house.
I'm sure I would have saved myself much trouble by checking the guide and working on rescues before completing too many missions.
Thanks for help n advice..thumbs up.

P.S I've had dozens of rescues pop up in old town but cannot tell if they would count as already got the achievement..seems its about 1 in 3 chance of appearing.......sods law

I've found a good way for this achievement, It's some kind of route on the map (Slums) that can easily spawn these ''Rescues''. All You need to do is reach the fourth main-mission named Pact With Rais and then keep completing the objectives till you reach the objective ahead : Find a Telecommunication Antenna. Here you can stop doing the mission !

Now, what you need to do is to keep walking the route on the map below showing the possible respawn points on the map!

Big Red Circle = Keep walking through this area trying to find the ''Rescue'' over and over again till 2 airdrops come. (The first airdrop comes right after you sleep and wake up , and the last one comes tonight, what means that you can go to the safe zones marked on the map and sleep again because after that won't be more ''Survivors Quests'').

Stars = These are the locations that appeared more rescue missions on my walk through this achievement.

Map:

NOTE: When you find the rescue missions complete it. Then when appear your survival exp increasing quickly press cn_guide after that quit the game ! When you restart it, there'll probably be the same rescue at the same place you did before. (Keep eyes on your achievement progress, if you don't worry, let it snapped)

(IF YOU VOTE NEGATIVELY PLEASE TELL ME WHY, AND TELL ME SOMETHING TO ADD) '' DON'T VOTE NEGATIVELY WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT YOU'RE DOING

Hope It Help you guys !

To set this up quicker, you could just start a new game (after finishing) at the mission Pact With Rais. No need to play up until this point I believe. Will try soon if it works.

Edit: Thumbs up, this totally worked.

This is the last achievement I have to get. I loaded up a new game, got to the section where you have to find a telecommunicaiton antenna, but I cannot get events to trigger in the locations you're referring to. Not once. Always random areas. Any pointers? The game always starts me at the exit of Rai's building, not one of the safe houses you show on the map. Could that effect the events popping up? Thanks in advance.

After you Spawn on Rai's building you need to sleep at the safe zones, until it's day again. Everyday (game-time) spawns 2 random events around that area. You just need to keep running and searching till the last airdrop comes. It took me like 2 hours to complete the achievement.

I'm spawning at Rai's building, luckily I was at this point in the game when I found this solution, but I've been running the circuit after quitting/reloading and the encounters are random.

The time of the day does continue but I just quit & reload then encounters pop up whilst running laps of the circuit or in the area you mentioned. Then it's just a mix, but after one encounter I quit & reload no matter what it is.

Tried method on June 12th, 2015 and it does not seem to work any longer. I have beaten the game, and then used chapter select to get back to exact place you have suggested. My guess is with the DLC that was released they may have fixed this. I found a correct random event , completed it, and then quit out and when I started the game back up I could not spawn another event in that area.

FreakOfTheAbyss, There's no reason for they to Fix it... It's not a glitch, it is just a schedule of random events that spawn on that specific area. The spawn of the event doesn't occurs very often (a little bit luck based). Not saying that you're lying, but it's better try this over and over more to see if they really removed the schedule of the events.

Hope you get the achievement smile

I just did this method and found about 7 of these encounters in about an hour to get the achievement. I did quit out of the app each time, but I'm not sure that helped the encounters appear. If you just start at sunrise and run around the map area highlighted in the description, I'm pretty sure you will find them. I checked each of the hotspots ForgottenWolf x listed and had no trouble. Hope other people have an easy of a time as I did.

This worked for me. I had every other achievement from the main game and title update and only came across 5 encounters which is a joke really. They never showed up for me post-game. This method did take time and a few attempts sometimes, but it is the most effective way to get it.

Great solution. Kept running to those locations, saving the survivor then quitting out of the game when it showed the xp gain. After reloading the game I’d sleep until the next day and repeat. Was able to find a group each reset doing it this way. I was also on The Saviors story quest.

This still works as of 5 April, 2022 with the new update that gives XSX and XSS consoles a graphics/performance upgrade. I only had like 3 achievements left, with this one being one of them. I used chapter select to go to Pact With Rais and followed the guide. I went to the safe zone in the north of the highway that he points out, slept twice (to night and then to day) and headed to the red circle. Once I found a scenario, I would kill Rais guy, untie the survivors, accept the reward, and immediately dashboard after that. After reloading the game, I would spawn in Rais' camp, so I repeated what I did (ran to the safe zone, slept twice, ran to the red zone) and it kept working. The specific scenario I kept finding was the one in the northeast area of the red circle.

After finishing the game I still needed 6 encounters. I started a Ng+ and found a really sweet trick that should work anytime you have the location of one of these encounters. The key to this method is remembering the location of the encounter and the path that you took. The steps you need to take are:
1. Find one of these encounters and make sure you remember its location.
2. After completing it and collecting your reward immediately hit the guide button and quit out of the game from the dashboard.
3. Start up the game again and it "should" start you somewhere near the encounter.
4. Go to where the random encounter was and it'll be there again. Repeat step 2.
*5 The encounter will always be in the same exact spot but if you don't run the same path, you run the risk of having another encounter popping up nearby. If this happens then immediately dashboard and restart.

Hopefully this makes sense and I'm here to answer any questions. It took me just about 10 minutes to get my 6 encounters done and that includes running into 2 other encounters that made me restart. I wish you all luck and hope that this was helpful.

Great catch. Did you happen to find any particular area on the map that was more likely to have an encounter?

When I restarted I played up until the point where you had to climb the second tower. After doing that I ran towards the next main mission and found it right in the middle of the road. These are supposed to be random so I haven't exactly cracked the code.

NG+ do u keep all ur gear? And is it supposed to be hard mode or just allows u to redo the story?

I didn't do this for the likes but more so as a test to see if this would work for others. I can still load up my game and run to the same spot and it spawns the same "random" encounter.

Yes, it's your traditional ng+. It skips you over the first mission and you get to keep all your stuff, enemies are tougher and you can do all the side and main quests again.

I couldn't seem to get this to work while free-roaming. I had already passed the "Run Errands for Rais" mission where you climb the towers, so whenever I found an event and dashboarded, the game would start me at The Tower and I would run to the spot with no event.

Yeah I know they have changed a lot in this game. When they recently fixed the glitched achievement they messed with a lot of other shit as well. For example, you can no longer grab and throw enemies off cliffs to get credit towards the "This is HAAARAAAN" or however it is spelled. It sucks because you used to be able to grab them and throw them off the bridge and you would get credit towards two different achievements. I have also finished the run missions for Rias and have had not luck finding these around the slum area.

When I tried this method, they weren't in the same spot, but they were usually close by. Either that or I just got lucky.

I just got to Old Town so I think I'm gonna head back to the Slums and finish this.

Tried method on June 12th, 2015 and it does not seem to work any longer. I have beaten the game, and then used chapter select to get back to exact place you have suggested. My guess is with the DLC that was released they may have fixed this. I found a correct random event , completed it, and then quit out and when I started the game back up I could not spawn another event in that area.

this still works for me! 2/15/16 with the following installed, no new game plus

i have story complete, and went back into my game with "continue." followed my same path back over and over just as described. the only thing i might add is that my spawn was not always the same exact spot, but rotated between 3 spawns in the same area. there was one time that nothing appeared, but i force quit and the next time they were back

This still works, although the event doesn't necessarily spawn in the exact same spot. A word of warning though, if the little save box shows up in the corner, wait for it to finish. The saving will not interfere with you being able to complete the event again, but quitting the game while it's saving could break your savefile.

I can confirm it works.
I had no luck to begin with, but after being caught by night time, i slept and on my way back to a store i found a hostage... saved him and dashboarded.
I have now spent 10 mins spawning in The Slums, fast travelling to Old town, sleeping at the same safehouse imediately and sure enough... the hostage is there!!
Thanks dude dance

For me it worked with a random encounter after the story was finished. I found a guy being attacked, helped him, dash-boarded, loaded back in, slept until next day, and went straight back to the encounter.
Didn't have to take the same path either. Worked every time.

So I was trying this method today. I found Rais men and killed them and made sure I knew the location. I dashboarded and started another game then went right back to Dying light. Out of 4 tries, none were in the same location but I had 4 random events occur near the area of the previous attempt. Out of those 4, the first 3 were Rais men doing whatever to a person and the last was a zombie attacking the person. Will try again next time I run across Rais men and I will update. But to be clear, after dashboarding I went to the same area and there was nothing. I then walked around the area (up to 80 - 100 meters) and within 1.5 minutes a random event would pop up with it being Rais men 75% of the time. Still super awesome, Thank You. :)

This works if you haven't beaten the game. I've been able to do it a couple times but when I quit from dashboard for some reason it starts me back on bozak horde which I played quite awhile ago so I have to select main campaign. I still have all my inventory but none of it is equipped from leaving the bozak horde. I freaked out at first but it's all in my stash as if my normal game is continuing, it just wants to use the horde as a checkpoint. Regardless, I just throw one strong weapon into my inventory and haul ass back to where it happened and it's there again. And I've followed the exact path and it does reactivate the incident. Thanks for the guide!

***for people who have already cleared the game***

Chapter select.
-pact with reis.
Continue in the mission until the task is to find a telecommunications device.
-around the apartment complexes between the nav point and reis' compound, run around until you find his goons homding someone hostage. Complete the event. As soon as the autosave finishes, quit the app and restart the game.
Continue and you will start at the compound again. Go back to the same general area and you'll quickly find them again.
Rinse and repeat.

This is confirmed. I did this method after spending hour and hours searching in old town.
I got the last five i needed in 20 minutes.

I have not unlocked this achievement as of this post. but have increased the number i have found by this..

Try to finish this before you and Rias really go at it..
The "Random" Events are spawned after the air drop in the morning, and night.

So 8 - 10 am, and shortly before night fall. 8-10 PM

The events are :
Blue money man
Blue guy who talks
Rias 2 guys searching a car.
Guy being attacked by zombies.
And Rais guys attacking blue guy. (seem to appear NW / W ) North slabs / west side of rail yard. (slums)
Later Rias guys will be replaced by blue runners..

they seem to be 1 a day, and you will get one of the above. the further in the story you are the less likely the last will show up.. until you reach old town.

This guide is originally written by ForgottenWolf x from TrueAchievements and a bit edited by me.

This is probably one of the last trophies you need but the trophy description is pretty misleading cause it says 15 but you need 15 survivor encounters. I had the trophy unlocked at 24 survivors rescued and it popped for me when I grabbed the rewards so do not forget to grab the rewards if you saved them. This could be patched but I don't know so if it gets patched please let me know in the comments.

These encounters are the most random events out there and there is no 100% certain way to spawn them but this method comes close to 100% (At least it did for me). Also this is way easier to do then trying them in an end game in Old Town where there is like no certainty besides RNG.

Guide;
I've found a good way for this trophy, It's some kind of route on the map (Slums) that can easily spawn these ''Rescues''. All You need to do is reach the fourth main-mission named Pact With Rais and then keep completing the objectives till you reach the objective ahead: Find a Telecommunication Antenna.

Then when appear your survival exp (or the lil saving block in the lower right corner of the screen)increasing quickly hold cn_guide after that to close the application! When you restart it, there'll be a higher chance that the same rescue at the same place you did before.

NOTE2: From my experience what I also did was close the application if I could not find anything cause going to sleep was to much of a hassle in my opinion.

Any questions feel free to comment.

I had already finished both main & DLC stories and still needed to rescue 5 or 6 survivors from Rais's men, but I still needed to do all 10 parkour fever challenges, so I decided to wait until I was done with those just in case I met one or two while practising my runs.

So I was playing with my game at 100% (NOT NG+) and I found that in the new area (Old Town) there are random encounters popping all the time. Not all of them are surviviors being held by Rais's men, but I did manage to find all the encounters I needed (and then some) before finishing the 5 Parkour Fever challenges in Old Town.

So even if you're done with every other achievement, it might be a good idea to just run around Old Town for a few day cycles until you find all the events you need.

In any game day, only one encounter of each type will pop (but not necessarily all of the types will pop), so if you already saved a survivor from Rais's men on a given day, you'll need to go to sleep until the next day for a chance of saving another one. However, if you found an encounter of a different type, there is still chance to get the one you need. There are no events at night.

Also note, if you are working on your parkour fever challenges and you're about to start a run and see a random encounter pop, check it out before starting your run, because some encounters disappear when you start the challenge.

Well i post my strategy that worked best for me.

1. Create a new game starting from the quest "pact with rais".
2. You should spawn in the tower. Follow the route on the picture (the RED one). On the way you should get a random event. If you had no random event, go to rais and talk to him until you have to go to the antenna.
3. When you contacted the GRE, follow the other route (the BLUE one). While running this route, you should get a random event. When you are at the end of the route and still no event, just go back and run the exact same blue route the opposite way and so on, but you should get a event pretty fast. It's important that you follow the route, because there is a spot near where you always get that blue dealer (fck this guy facepalm).
4. When you finally got an event (on the red or blue route) and it's the event with rais' men and survivors, complete it and after you get the reward and the game saved, quickly close the game and start it again. You should spawn at the tower again. just follow the red route and you should find the same event at the same spot (if not, explore the surrounding).

If you have a different event than rais' men with survivors and you DIDNT TALK TO RAIS YET, go do it and after contacting the GRE you should get a different one. When YOU ALREADY CONTACTED THE GRE and it's a different event, go to main menu and start again from the quest and go to Step 1.

Here is the link for the map with the routes:

the yellow points are the spots where i often got the events with rais' men.
I hope i can help someone with this guide for the trophy :)

If you don't have this by the end of your game (which you probably won't) then I would suggest just circling the roof tops of Old Town using your grappling hook.

A circuit can be done in a few minutes this way and you will get a few opportunities for each of the random events that pop up.

This event gets a lot more rare once the game has completed so if you feel confident taking on Rais's men earlier then that would be better.

You can track the number of survivors you have saved via the personal statistics section of the main menu (under extras) but be careful that you need to complete 15 rescues so if you rescue two survivors from one lot of men it will count as two on your personal statistics but only as one towards the trophy.

Make sure you help the survivor up and collect the reward for it to count.

Here is a brief video of what I mean, unfortunately the rate of events can be very low, sometimes as little as one an hour so be prepared to grind this one out.

Solutions over my comment are problematic after patch.

AFTER PATCH:
1. Run from menu mission - Pact With Rais
2. Keept ahead to Find a Telecommunication Antenna
3. STOP mission
4. In Jyejitsu's screen you can find random event. Do it. Every time you pass trough the mission the event will be on 100 %. But one time after contacting GRE.
5. quit to main menu
6. Again and Again

As you play the game you will notice that random events pop up on your radar with a pulsing blue radar-type icon. About two thirds of the time early on these will just be survivors fighting zombies (great for "We’re All in This Together") and the rest of the time is split up between them being random people you can talk with, shops sometimes show up as these events, and then there is the slim chance of the event being a survivor or two being attacked or held hostage by some of Rais’s men. In short, for any situation where you see a group of red triangles fighting one or more blue triangles, it will apply to one of these achievements.

Zombies vs. Survivors: These events task you with stepping in and saving some survivors from groups of zombies that you will need to clear out. Once you’ve done that, talk to one of the survivors (a trophy icon on your minimap) to receive your reward and get credit for saving them. I highly recommend you get this done in the first zone you are in (Slums), as they are almost always fighting groups of the super zombies when you find them in Old Town, and usually die before you can save them.

Mean Survivors vs. Nice Survivors: As mentioned previously, you can sometimes find Rais’s men attacking a lone survivor, or holding some hostage. Kill the thugs, and then free/talk with the survivors to receive credit here. You will also frequently find them skirmishing over day-time air drops, which will net you the same credit. I did not see Rais’s men fighting survivors a single time in the many hours I spent in Old Town, so bear in mind that it's best to do this in the Slums.

If you go after every day-time airdrop you see, this should allow you to get "Homo Homini Lupus Est" a bit quicker. Having completed the story, and just about everything else, I was at under 40% completion for this achievement, likely due to ignoring daytime drops if they were out of the way. I highly recommend going after every drop that comes in until you unlock this achievement.

GLITCHED

In order to earn this trophy, you must save 15 hostages being held captive by Rais' men. These events are random, can are found from the icon on your map. There are a total of 4 different random events: Survivors needing help from attacking zombies; Rais' men holding a hostage; Rais' men without a hostage, a random stranger encounter and they all are random events.

Hostage's being held by Rais' men are by far the rarest random event, plus they can only be found in Old Town. However, you can find them in the Slums up until you complete the main mission called "The Pit". Rais's men event without a hostage also does not count towards earning this trophy. This will most likely be one of the final trophies that you earn because of how rare these events are, and there are only 3 locations that have a chance of spawning, they are:

  • North West - near the Safe Zone that's nearest to the upper right of the map. Click HERE for a screenshot of the exact location.
  • South - Just north of the southern most safe house, above the museum. Click HERE for a screenshot of the exact location.
  • South East - A little East near the middle of the map. Click HERE for a screenshot of the exact location.

These spawns are only found on rooftops so try to not travel on the streets to travel across Old Town. The only way that you can farm random events, is by travelling far away. Sleeping in a Safe Zone for a day also works but there's still a little chance that an event will spawn. When you spawn a hostage event, the hostage will be curled up on the flood asking for help. You must defeat each of Rais' men in order to save a hostage. After you've defeated every enemy, you must get near the hostage and press to comfort the hostage in order for the save to count.

You can check your Hostages saved progress from the Main Menu of the game: Under "Extras", followed by "Personal Statistics" under the "Survivors saved from Rais' men" stat. Also bear in mind that this trophy is semi-bugged and might not register a save sometimes so it might take more than 15 saves in order to unlock, even if the stat says more than 15 saved. Once you've met the requirement, the trophy will unlock.
