How to unlock the Now It's Safe achievement in Dying Light - Definitive Guide

I was stuck at 94% as well. I started a new game plus after beating the game and as soon as I was able to do so, started unlocking safe houses clockwise from the tower. All the way around the map I went unlocking one after another checking my achievement progress after each one and nothing moved. UNTIL....I unlocked the northern most safe house on the slums map.

As soon as I unlocked this safe house I unlocked the achievement....oddly I don't remember ever clearing this place and I think one of my friends may have solo cleared it in an online game with me, making me not get credibility for unlocking it. It may not be this particular safe zone your missing but this may have happened to you too. Just start running through them again on new game plus and you should unlock it.
I just did this solo with no one in my game...not sure if playing alone helped but that's how I did it.

Hope this helps.

I think this achievement is just buggy.

I played the entire game solo, and cleared every thing I could find, ended up at 94%.

I started a new save file to play with a buddy, and after clearing everything in the slums, this popped for me after clearing 2 random safe zones in Old Town. The one that made it pop I CLEARLY remember having done before, so it wasn't that I somehow missed it.

I just went through on new game plus and started unlocking all the safe houses. I had cleared this one before, but the cheevo popped right after I cleared this one again.

This may be a dumb question but........are all safe houses available to clear from the beginning of the game, or do a couple unlock (to be cleared) during story progression?

If I remember there is only one safe house to unlock from the story. However you will probably need skills and weapons not available to you in the first of the game in order to access some safe houses. Sorry it's been awhile since I've played the game.

Safe zone with Seda and other survivors, at 12 o'clock direction in Old Town, is not needed for this achievement. Two exclamation marks or side quests at this safe zone.

For every safe house, you have to:
1. reach the location marked on the map
2. secure all entry points (some have more than one, watch the icons on your map)
3. kill all the infected already in (most safe houses are quite easy to clear, but be careful as there are a handful of safehouses with for example a bomber, toad or goon in it)
4. find the power switch and turn on the lights

If you complete all these tasks, the safe house will unlock and it will be visible on your map as a little green house, instead of a red one.

For some gamers, the achievement seems glitched. It might have to do with a safe house which did not show on the map in the first place, but these are the locations of all safe houses I unlocked when the achievement popped for me:

I was stuck at 94% before and after the patch..
I changed the game setting to (in main menu) to New Game +
I unlocked each safe zone until it popped.

The safe zone i was not given credit for was for the North West safe zone in the "slabs." Apt complexes.. The one with the Goon in it.. Once it popped i remembered that i had died several times trying to close the Safe zone..

I imagine that there is strict Scripting in the code that says you have to do all steps without dying and coming back. Otherwise the Script resets, and can not be undone.

I.e.. Close the gate > fix panel > kill Zombies..
if you close the gate, Die.. the script will never be 1 > 2 > 3. Until the game is reset..

So if you died setting up a safe zone.. you might not get credit for it.
Additionally, if you started setting up a safe house, and left the area before it was completed, and came back to it. It might not count.
If there is a safe zone with increased odds of you dying.. unlock those first.
So you will get stuck at various percentages even thou they are unlocked.

Basically if you've died trying to unlock safe zone then tough shit. It doesn't count. That's stupid.

So I was stuck at 94% my last safe house was in old town, I left old town for a while and when I went back for some reason the cheevo popped. I'm not saying this will work for anybody else but wanted to put it out there that that's how my problem was solved .

In order to complete this achievement, you must 'secure' all safe houses.

The game does mark many of the safe houses on the map with red houses. And when you clear them (turn the electricity back on and kill the enemies), they will become green houses.

HOWEVER, there are several safehouses that will ONLY be unlocked after the associated side mission is completed. Many times after the completion of a side mission you will see 'SAFEHOUSE UNLOCKED'. Not all of these have a green house afterwards. Ex.

Safe zones are the green house icons that pop up on your map. Most of them come from turning grayed out house icons into safe houses by going to that location, clearing out zombies, sometimes blocking doorways or windows, and then turning on the power. Some safe houses are unlocked by simply getting close to a particular area on the map, while others are unlocked naturally through story or side quest progression.

I recommend getting as many safe houses opened up as possible early on, to make your travels easier. It won’t make too much of a difference later on, as you master the movement controls, get a good understanding of the layout of the map, and get better and surviving nights out in the dark.

GLITCHED

Several reports indicate that the trophy does not unlock when you meet the requirements to unlock this trophy. We recommend that you backup your saves just before you have cleared the final Safe Zone before attempting to earn this trophy. However, there is a workaround: if this trophy does not unlock after you've captured every Safe Zone, then start a new game after you've completed the main story for the first time. You can do this by starting a new game from the main menu. When you start a new game, be sure that it is in a new slot (found under Advanced Settings). You can reach the "New game from quest" menu by pressing before starting a new game. Also be sure to start from the main story mission, "The Clinic" while in Advanced Settings. By doing this, you can start up a new game in Old Town and have access to both Red Safe zones in Old Town and the Slums. This saves a lot of time and makes surviving easier as well, since you start off with more skill points. Once you have your new game settled, capture those red safe zones until the trophy unlocks. You might not even need to meet the requirement and unlock the trophy before you need capture all 16 safe zones the second time around.

In order to earn this trophy, you must "capture" every Safe Zone in the game. Throughout the game, you will see red icons on your map. These are the Zones that you must capture in order to meet the requirements to earn this trophy. This does not mean that you have to unlock every Safe Zone in the game, as you unlock certain Safe Zones just by progressing through the main story, and certain side quests. This can be earned as early as you have access to Old Town. Capture every Safe Zone in Both the Slums and Old Town, then view your map and mark every red Safe Zone that's shown and clear them one by one. There are:

  • 12 Red Safe Zones to clear in the Slums
  • 4 Red Safe Zones to clear in Old Town

In order to clear a Safe Zone, you must first close a gate in order to stop other zombies from entering the area. Once the area is closed, kill every zombie in the safe zone; after you've killed every zombie, turn the power on in the safe zone to finally capture the area. You will know when it's captured as you'll get notification stated that the zone has been captured. Also bear in mind that every zone is different, so some areas might have different tasks such as: Blocking a window with a cabinet etc. Clearing a Safe Zone also changes the color of the Safe Zone to a Green icon. This makes it much easier to track which Safe Zones you need left to earn this trophy.
