if you check the leaderboards the top like 50 use Zhang He. he's the girly guy that uses a large spear. every 10 guys you kill will net you a 10 sec speed boost, bannermen give 10 sec speed boost, small siege weapons give 30 sec boosts, large siege weapons and defense captains give special tokens. those, when used let you run super fast while it lasts. dont spend to much time killing the wimp soldiers, just try to kill a few as you run by, and dont grab a 10 sec boost while using a 30 sec boost, burn the 30 secs first. also getting a speed boost while using your special token lets you run REAL fast.
as for a route, start at your base and go SE and then work your way counter clockwise.
avoid animals and kill stuff as fast as possible.
