In order to get at least 10 tactics unlock you will need 27 hired guards in your squad.
You usually get more guards from during side medium battles that show up on the map as you progress through the story mode. They tend to have 2 guards (before Chapter 5) or 3 guards (Chapter 5) as a reward for completing it which in turn unlocks a new tactic as well.

Here is a list of the first 10 tactics you will receive:
- Encouragement
- Invigoration
- Charge
- Mounted Charge
- Volley
- Flaming Volley
- Defensive
- Spear Wall
- Order to Protect
- Order to Defend

Simple trophy, as you progress through the game you will get more guards for your squad from optional missions and unlock more tactics as your number increases, then you just need to use 10 different tactics in any battles. They do not all have to be in the same battle though.

Tactics are special commands that you issue to your allies in battle. You unlock the ability to use Tactics in Chapter 2, and they are really good at turning the tide. Press the Tactics button 
to bring up your equipped tactics, and then press 
to use your chosen Tactic.
You can equip three of them at one time. You unlock different tactics as you make your way through the main campaign. After you have used ten different tactics, the Masterful Tactician achievement will then unlock.
