Recipes come in two varieties: Crafting Recipes and Cooking Recipes.

The complete set of Crafting Recipes numbers 95. You unlocking Crafting Recipes by either leveling up your character or completing specific main story quests; once you hit a level or complete a quest, the "recipe" is available for you.

Some recipes are only available once you unlock earlier recipes. For example, you cannot craft an Expert Lockpick until you craft the Basic Lockpick. All Crafting Recipes require a certain number of materials available through destroying items in the world or uncovering them by opening various containers.

At the campfire, choose "Invent & Craft" to access the Crafting Recipes menus.

The complete set of Cooking Recipes number 64. You unlock Cooking Recipes mainly through finding them in the world. There may be a rare Cooking Recipe given to you as a quest reward, but I can't recall any specific item that this happened on.

All recipes can be created anytime you have the option to "Cook". One of the Crafting Recipes is the Cooking Stand, which gives you the "Cook" menu option when you're at a campfire. In order to cook a Cooking Recipe, you must have the proper ingredients. All ingredients can be found in the world but it's sometimes more efficient to grow some of them.

Keep destroying anything in sight as you work your way through the game and deposit all the materials in your storage box. Once you fill out the majority of the base inventions listed, you will have this. Lots of these require mid to high rarity materials like steel or lumber. These materials are pretty hard to get until you reach high damage blunt/sharp weapons. Prioritize upgrading your weapons first, as these will get you materials.
