How to unlock the Top of the Heap achievement in EA SPORTS Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR - Definitive Guide

This achievement is unlocked in the pro career section when you become world number 1.
To see your ranking from the tour pro menu, push RB to go to Career History and select Rankings. Then move to the right to category and push the right stick down to change from Fed Ex to EA rankings (they are not the same). As a guide, I won the 4 of the first 5 tournaments (2nd in the other) and this unlocked when I won the spring invitational, supposedly the "first major" (not sure what The Masters would say about that!)
As such this achievement should come naturally if you are trying to win all the pro career achievements. Good luck!

In order to reach #1 in the EASG Rankings you need to perform well (i.e. win) in tournaments throughout career mode. The better you perform the quicker you will move up the rankings. If you aren’t skipping tournaments you should get this after about 5 event wins in career. This will come naturally over time as you win tournaments and championships. You can check your progress and current ranking in the rankings menu by navigating to Career History > Rankings > EA SPORTS Golf Ranking Points whilst in the Tour Pro menu.

Winning approximately 5 events should put you at the top of the rankings. You can check the rankings in the stats page of career. Use the 
to cycle between FedEx cup ranking and EASG ranking. I recommend getting this out the way first as leveling up your golfer will make other events easier. Once you unlock this you can withdraw from other tournaments that aren't tied to achievements.
