How to unlock the UFC 82: Pride of a Champion achievement in EA SPORTS UFC 3 - Definitive Guide

This one is pretty easy if you understand the game mechanics fairly well. You don't have to complete the entire story, only win the title which I did at 21 fights, and I believe it's the same for everyone.

Personally I chose to be a heavyweight, and picked grappling for my specialty as a lot of heavyweights don't have great grappling skills.

After completeing the first fight in WFA I purchased the wrestling camp and spent my first 2 fights training there. You don't need to get any followers so I'd just ignore the promotion aspect of training camp and put all your weeks into actually training and learning new moves. I put my focus early on in the game into the following skills: takedown, endurance, top game, bottom game, power, and footwork. These skills allowed me to build a character that I would use to takedown and knockout all 21 opponents on the ground. Getting good at denying transitions is key, they're very easy to learn with time and there's a large window to deny transitions in this weight class. If you're having issues with denying transitions you can go into Skill Challenges from the main menu then to ground challenges and select top game, this will help you learn the different transition animations and get good at denying them.

Specifically what I did in every single fight was this:
1) Shoot for a takedown
2) Get into dominant half guard
3) Deny 3 transitions from my opponent in a row (by then their stamina is drained)
4) Transition to side guard and drop punches on them until they're knocked out (press right bumper + the punch button to throw elbows which do more damage)

In the event that I failed to deny a transition and the opponent got dominant position on the ground, I would just transition to full guard (submissive), then press LB to use advanced transitions and transition to back side, from back side to back mount, and then you're back in dominant territory.

This worked like 95% of the time for me. I just repeated this and had the achievement in about 3 hours.

As far as camps go once you learn all the useful training moves from one, buy the next one and learn what you can from it. I used the ground and pound and crushing presence perks to my advantage, beyond that I didn't even use any perks, as far as moves go I only unlocked higher level takedowns. When you're training in a camp, the higher your fitness is the more skill points you get from training, so once you have high grappling skills (near 100) you can start to boost those first to get your fitness up, then switch to other things like chin strength and so on although it's not necessary.

You can lose fights and still get the title fight, which is all you need for this achievement. All that matters is you win the title fight, if you lose during the title fight you can pause right after you lose the match, go to the dashboard, then exit the game to restart the match from the start.

If you need help or have feedback please let me know, this worked really well for me!

Do you need to dashboard after the loss on a Legendary? Because you didn't have to do it on other difficulties, just Restart the match.

Works like a charm. So far I’m at 18-0 with an average fight time of 21 seconds. Thank you for sharing this.

I'm at 17-0 with a heavyweight and I'm facing Fabrico Werdum. Almost every time I shoot in, he gets a submission attempt on me. Any tips?

EDIT: I decided to just lose it and pray I didn’t get rematched with him again. It worked out. Thank god.

I was 19-0 and had to face Werdum, hes difficult because he has good jujutsu and stand up. After like 20 attempts, I decided to let him just beat me, I got 1 won after that, and still ended up getting the title shot and winning first attempt. Genius strategy as long as your grappling stats are higher than your opponent.

@Kinoo1 Legendary difficulty does not allow you to restart the match to up the ante and make the game more challenging.

I see this is getting lots of downvotes, if anyones having trouble or has any feedback I'd love to hear it! This worked really well for me, I dare say it was easy, and I hope it can help some people, and if you have questions / feedback I'm here to help.

If people we're struggling with the method in specific I'd encourage you to do some training drills for top game specifically denying transitions, if you're a brand new player it might seem difficult but the transition animations are pretty far and few and it does not take long to memorize them, once you get that down just make sure you're denying transitions until your opponents stamina is drained, then moving to side guard and dropping bombs.

Some opponents will be harder to takedown than others, be patient, throw a jab use some movement and keep shooting, you will eventually get it, sometimes their takedown animation will result in them actually being in a dominant position on the ground with you, you can still use this to your advantage by just getting to full guard and then doing the advanced transition to back side and getting to a dominant position from there.

This takes about 19 fights and it's really not too hard if you're decent at the game, I recommend trying to have a strong wrestling base and good sub defence because the computer is very good at sub transitions. You can afford to lose at least a couple fights on the way.

Best way to train is to spar once every camp and get your stats up and leave the promotional stuff until a bit later or if you have spare points as this doesn't really matter.

I did this by going heavyweight, be wary of Werdum because you will really struggle to escape his subs but if you lose to him you will still get the title shot anyway..

Man, the judges are horrible. You would think someone with 9 takedowns and almost equal strikes to the opponent would win the match.

Perhaps once I can level up my character high enough, the ground and pound technique will become more effective.

Ugh. I'm getting torched by Cain Velasquez by being a last minute replacement and not really getting ample time to get my fitness levels up. Might take the loss if I continue to struggle and hope you're right that I'm able to get by with a loss or two. :)

Just stinks because I'm 14-0 and have made so much progress towards this achievement.

Simple submissions are turned off and the computer cheats, im assuming there has been updates that has made a.i better at ground game cause this is impossible, cant even get in the submission at all in the very first fight...this is ridiculous, i beat legendary on ufc 1 no problem but i cant even get 1 fight here, computer cheats i give up Edit: I have now won 18 in a row and on title fight, you can get submission to almost 90 after first fight if buy the 3,000 wrestling gym...only fight 16 gave me some trouble so far, if only need 19 wins then winning this title fight should be the achievement...got it...first fight, 16th fight, and 19th fight were only tricky ones

You need to become a champion in your chosen weight class. ( 21 wins )

To avoid accidental one-shots, I played through the ground.
Rocked:
1) game of bottom, top, takedowns, grappling endurance;
2) Health of the jaw, body, mobility, block.
3) the remaining characteristics from the grappling, endurance, health sections.
4) when the general stats of grappling, endurance, and health were at the level of 85-90, I began to upgrade the stance.
Among the techniques, I studied movements on the ground and powerful takedowns, then painful ones.

I didn’t spend on advertising at all, even on mandatory ones (a fine of about 10% of the money after the fight)

The tactics are the simplest: drop, block 2-3 transitions, go into a side hold, score with your elbow. Everyone fell away in the first round, the only problem was with Nate Diaz (lightweight, about 10-15 fights), he is strong on the ground with wild submissions. Maybe there would have been a problem with Khabib if I hadn’t played him.

Received the belt, finishing all fights with painful ones. This is quite possible, you just need to get the hang of quickly reacting to blocks. Upgrade grappling from the very beginning (

Here's what really saved me:
Heavyweight - Master of Submissions - (Werdum sort of)
For the trophy you need 19 wins (3 WFA and 16 UFC)
The main thing here is to get the hang of the pain mini-game.

I went through with the drummer's woman, it took 18 victories and there were 6 defeats in underground battles... if the trick works, if you are defeated, we close the game and start again... in the end it is almost impossible to win by submission, and it is also difficult to fight because because the bot doesn’t see your animations or the buttons you press... but still, painful locks saved me a couple of times... so you shouldn’t ignore the hint above... But contrary to all the laws of physics, I crushed the pack for her in the first round. ..

And so, my torment with this trophy ended. I decided to follow the path of a grappler, because it’s more interesting for me to play this mini-game than just score with my elbow. In the end I had 18 victories, but still lost one battle on the way to the belt. I’ll tell you in order, perhaps someone will like this path more, but I hasten to warn you that you need iron endurance and the ability to apply painful submissions. So, heavy weight, Fabricio Werdum, you can also take Minotauro Noguera, but I like Werdum better. Why them? They are the strongest in grappling, so you will immediately have a better chance of coming out victorious on the ground.

1. Fights in WFA
Here we need to win two fights in a row to get into the UFC. Let's take advantage of this moment. You won’t get much money here, so we don’t buy the halls right away, we’ll take only the second one (specialization: wrestling). The first and most important aspect is to download the “painful hold”. We only download it until it reaches 100. In WFA we play like this: win-lose-win-lose-2 wins. This will give us more time for training, during which we will raise our stats. We also alternate gyms, because you won’t get enough money for losing, and in the very first gym, grappling is almost not upgraded, but we need it.

2. UFC fights
Here the fighters will be more and more difficult each time, so don’t forget about the wonderful combination of “PS button” - close the application if you are specifically pinched. You can’t go out at the legendary level, as they will count as a defeat, but you can use this feature). When choosing a fight, we choose fighters who have less grappling stats, but we also pay attention to the number of weeks for preparation, training is the key to success. WE DO NOT SPEND ANY MONEY ON ADVERTISING.

3. Leveling up
First of all, you need to improve your grappling, namely: performing painful holds, playing from below, playing from above, takedown (these are the most important, they come first). In fitness and endurance we need grappling stamina, endurance, toughness and heart. Personally, by the time I received the trophy, I had upgraded all my Health and Fitness to 100. In grappling, I didn’t level up grappling in the clinch and blocking takedowns to 100, the overall indicator is 96. We don’t touch strikes unless they level up along with some stats that we need. However, I would advise pumping up the blocks to at least 80, because... The fighters are very aggressive and you have to be ready to block a couple of blows before performing a takedown.

4. Perks and techniques
When you select a hall, you can press square, and then rewards will appear that can be obtained through “Exploring”. Therefore, immediately set goals for yourself and do not forget about the techniques, I am not sure of their importance, but it seems to me that it still plays some role. We need: a level 5 takedown with one and two leg grabs (takedowns tab), basic ground techniques, ground transitions and level 5 reversals (grounds tab). I’ll say right away that you don’t have to immediately rush to get level 5 techniques, especially since at the beginning of the game they will not be available, you can do level 3 and 4, I don’t see any point in getting level 2. Painful techniques to suit your taste, I personally only have level 5 gogoplata, I also used the guillotine and triangle with arms, so look and choose for yourself, but remember that you need good techniques both in the position from above and in the position from below, because you will be more than once find yourself under the enemy at the end of the game I didn’t receive any perks, but perhaps the “mill” perk, which increases stamina in grappling, will come in handy.

5. Stage “Main Candidate”
You are already in the top 5, the fighters will waste your nerves and time, which you will have to spend a little on battles and exits through the PS button. Be prepared that the submissions will no longer be carried out the first time, the opponents will already have at least 85 grappling skills. At Stipe Miocic (the last fight before the trophy) I spent 4 rounds before, after the next submission attempt, I kicked him twice and finished him off . Yes, yes, it happens too The more you spend on the ground, in a dominant position, and the more you try to apply pain, the endurance and health of the part of the body that you break decreases.

As a result, my battle record was 18-3, I deliberately made 2 losses in WFA and one was accidental, but it didn’t affect anything. I would also like to add that under no circumstances should you lose to the same opponent twice in a row, otherwise your career will be over. I fell for this when I was trying to play more with weak fighters in the “newbie” stage. But I hope that with my hint you will win the trophy in a fairly quick time and with a minimum number of defeats.
