How to unlock the Submission Season achievement in EA SPORTS UFC - Definitive Guide

Here are a few tips I think would be helpful to those going for this achievement.

Use Ronaldo Souza (Light Heavyweight). Besides having 100 in all four Submissions attributes he also has the Chess Master ability which makes the Left Stick advancements appear faster. The lower division you are (White - Blue - Purple - Brown - Black) the easier it will be due to the lower amount of games you have to win.

Here is what I did:
- Don't rush. I used a combination of kicks and punches to the body and legs of my opponent to whittle the their stamina.
- Use takedowns effectively. A takedown can take a good chunk of your opponents stamina away. Use this when they are low on stamina.
- Learn how to block ground escapes. When on top, Hold RT and move the Right Stick DOWN when your opponent attempts to use the Left Stick escape. If your opponent is spamming this move and you keep blocking it, their stamina will decrease very rapidly.
- Learn how to play with Souza (or whoever you choose). Souza is a high level Jiu Jitsu fighter and can perform a submission from almost any ground position (top or bottom). Learning where and when you can do a submission will help tremendously. I used the Fight Now mode which has a Move List in the Pause Menu (Souza is under Middle Weight for Fight Now mode).

Lastly, practice. The submission system in this game is better suited for AI fights. Even with a high level submission fighter it won't be easy to beat other real players. Play some un-ranked matches until you get better. Practice makes perfect.

Something I just wanted to add, was generally how people try to escape from submissions. I only ever encountered people that fell into 3 different categories.

1. The easiest one to stop. They start at one side of the RS and when you block it, they move to the next one in sequence. It is almost like they think they have to make all four sides as big as possible to escape. Easy submission win there.

2. They start with one side (usually up or down) when you block they move to the next one in sequence and when you block that they go back to the original side they started on. They then jump back and forth usually in a predictable motion which you can usually pre-empt. I won 5 or 6 fights actually pre-empting their back and forth timings. Learn that little trick and you will win a lot more by submission

3. This was the hardest type to submit. They jump all over the place actually knowing how to get out of a submission. Generally speaking they will usually stick to 3 sides of the RS but without their stamina being pretty much empty, you will struggle to submit these gamers.

One last tip, most gamers I fought could not defend my attacks when I circled (double tap up or down on LS if I remember correctly) then follow that with a super man punch. This works even better when they are attacking and you circle out of the way and counter with a super man punch. 90% of my knockouts came from this move and this is what I used to drain their stamina.

Gamers may have gotten better by now online at the game but this was my experience.

MR BLACKMAGIK's solution is excellent and helped me get the achievement.

Thought it would be worth noting that if you don't care about your online record, it's worth getting demoted to white belt as you need to win less fights and you'll be against lower-level competition.

It's a cheap solution, but it makes the achievement much easier.

Yes, you do. You need to win every match in a whole season by submission, and you can't lose.

Hence why it's easier to do this on white belt.

Just got this trophy after 4 days of frustration!
I tried using Souza and bj penn, I'd get 2 or 3 subs then I'd come up against silva or jones, get kicked in the stomach 5 times and get tko'd! Had a few quit on me aswell. Decided to just fight as the women (ronda rowsy) and won 5 fights in a row! Was an epic last fight, I think my opponent was also going for this trophy so it was 2 rounds of sub after sub but I won clap
SOME ADVICE: beat the shit out of your opponents head or stomach, stun em, jump on top and sub their sorry ass'es. So glad this ones out the way lol

This trophy is the hardest game in my opinion. You need to learn to move and defend all transactions on the floor, especially defense mounted behind. Choose an expert in jiu-jitsu player like Ronaldo Souza, Demian Maia or Renan Barao. Train hard to learn how to defend and attack tapout. Monitor the stamina helps. In white belt division some opponents will not know to defend. Luck is also required.

I attacked this Trophy by using Souza, only getting into fights in his weight class. He is a really good character at submissions which is needed for this trophy. Now, getting down to the lower belts will help. I did mine in the blue season, and getting down to the white season will help even more i reckon.

Now, the main focus is getting a takedown when the opponent is low on stamina. You might engage a little in the standup, but focus more on dodging his attacks to drain his stamina. Most people will not be able to defend a takedown very well, so go for a power takedown. This is so that you end up in a favorable position, and draining the stamina of the opponent at the same time.

Beware that some fighters gain stamina very fast on the ground, even in a non-favourable position. Because of this, try to spend as little time as possible on the ground. Stamina down -> takedown -> submission.

UNOBTAINABLE DUE TO SERVER CLOSURE

Depending if you prefer standup or submissions, either this or Knockout Season should be the first trophy you go for online. To unlock the trophies you need to win every fight in a season by Submission for Submission Season or KO for Knockout Season. The reason to go for it first is the higher belt you are, the more wins you will need to do to unlock the trophy. White belt requires 5 wins, Blue 6 & so on. White & Blue belt level also have the most amount of inexperienced users so fights should be easier dependant on your skill level.

Tips for getting KO & submission wins courtesy of ifistbrowni:

KO - Thai clinch (+ toward opponent) then throw knees at their face (push away from opponent and hit or ).

If you're in white belt, the best way to start a match is throwing them in the Thai clinch to "test their abilities." I got my trophy closer to launch, but most people didn't even block and let you straight up knock them out within 30 seconds.

If that doesn't work, do some stand-up or some ground and pound and target your opponent's head. When their head diagram is red, throw them in the clinch and knee them. If they're gassed, they wont even be able to block and just get knocked out on the 1st or 2nd knee. Anytime your opponent is gassed or have an extremely damaged head (red) let them stand up and throw them in the Thai clinch. NEVER FINISH A FIGHT ON THE GROUND, it will usually result in a TKO, voiding your trophy.

Submissions are easy. Most people love to do some stand up in this game. People usually attack until their stamina is below half, then they back up and recover. Just try to keep your stamina maxed by blocking their attacks and not throwing any counters. When they're backing away (gassed) throw a punch or kick that "lunges" toward your opponent to close the distance and immediately go for a slam takedown ( + and roll ). When you slam them, it'll likely take away the rest of their stamina and you'll land in side control, from side control attempt the submission. Use Ronaldo Souza.

ONLINE: This achievement is easiest done in the White Belt division, here you only need to win five fights in a row to unlock the achievement. Below are some general tips to help you get submission wins followed by a list of the best submission fighters in each weight class.

  • Only attempt a submission when you have close to full stamina and your opponent’s stamina is low. If your stamina runs out during the submission it will automatically break and the lower your opponent’s stamina the slower their gates will fill. The best way to drain your opponent’s stamina is with body shots.
  • Only attempt a submission from top position if you already have the stamina advantage, in top position your stamina will drain much faster than your opponents. Conversely don’t be afraid to let your opponent take you down, you can conserve your stamina and attempt a submission from the bottom when theirs has drained.
  • The easiest submission to complete is the Kimura, every fighter has this submission available to them from dominant side control. The best way to get your opponent into a Kimura is to take them down using either a power takedown,  +  +  quarter circle, or a single leg takedown,  +  quarter circle towards opponent, both of these will land you directly into side control. If you already have the stamina advantage you can attempt the submission immediately by holding  +  quarter circle clockwise.
  • Try to learn your opponent’s patterns with the gates on your first few attempts; it’s impossible for someone to be truly random so you should see some common directions being used. If they have one gate that is almost full, stay on that gate and let them go to another one, generally they will do your job for you by quickly moving back to the one you are already guarding because it would be their quickest way to escape.
  • Try not to flick the  in the wrong direction, this will auto complete a chunk of all 4 gates and more often than not automatically break them out of the submission.
