How to unlock the There and Back achievement in Eastshade - Definitive Guide

This achievement should be unmissable, as it unlocks after completing the final main quest, 'Leaving Eastshade'.

This quest in itself is straightforward. A courier runs up to you in either Lyndow or Nava and gives you a letter. From there, your destination is the dock in Lyndow where you can speak to the captain to board the boat.

However, I would strongly recommend creating a manual save before you assign your fourth main quest painting and completing the quest 'Mother's Last Wishes'.

For some reason, when I reloaded an autosave after a crash that occurred while finishing up some other sidequests, the logic which should trigger the courier to come find you stopped working. The courier would not spawn, so I had to restart the game from the beginning.

Just a PSA to avoid another mainline playthrough (albeit only a few hours long), if you're going for all the achievements in one run.

When I completed the quest 'Mother's Last Wishes' I did in Nava, later finished some sidequests at Lyndow and awaited for the messenger in Lyndow, but it didn't show up, so I guessed it was in Nava since I completed 'Mother's Last Wishes' in there. When I reached Nava the messenger was running close the entrance fountain, I talked to him and got the letter.

Yep. Check Nava if the messenger doesn't show up in Lyndow.

@Big chung: Did you select the icons on left side from the canvas menu and assigned the appropriate paintings?

This happened to me. I walked all around Lyndow and he never showed ran all the way to Nava and he didn't come to me. Went to the back of the university and he was running into a wall. I just walked close to him, monkey in green robes. That triggered his conversation and he gave me to pass.

This happened to me, as well. Found the courier in the river between Lyndow and Nava, just past the first bridge. He was stuck/ glitched. I used the reed raft to nudge him and he ended up on the riverbank, where I could talk to him and progress the quest.

This game is so buggy, had to chase the courier from Lindow until I caught him at the bridge

He didn’t spawn for me either, so I fast travelled from Lyndon to Nava and he found me in the university shortly after.

I played like the walktrough told me and he didn't spawned for me the first time after I completed 100% of the quests. I closed the game completely and reloaded the last manual save I created, which was AFTER the 100% completion of the quests. I walked around Lyndow and then I saw a ape running away from me. Luckily I was faster and finally got the message...

I think the game wanted to get rid of me at the end. I was wandering around the character's home looking at all the mementos and I noticed the music had died down. Then the screen went black and I wasn't able to do anything except close the game with Task Manager.

Also any guess what species our character was? At first my head-cannon was "Wolf", but a couple of times running over hills he kindof starts gliding along, so maybe "Owl" ?

I thought my game was glitched because the messenger did not find me at first after completing the last quest. I found him stuck on a wall in Lyndow, thankfully. He was just running in place.. I hope others can find him just stuck instead of replaying the game.

*Note - I did this on PC simply because that is what the guy did in the video. I do not know if or how well it will work on console.

If you're one of the unfortunate people to suffer from the glitch mentioned in the above solution where the monkey doesn't spawn, this is the absolute fastest way to play through the game:

There's only one thing you really need to do to complete this game. Collect all four "Mother's Wish" paintings. Following this video will do just that in the most efficient way possible, and not monkey around (pun intended) with the side stuff.

Generally following a speedrun video as a walkthrough is a terrible idea due to glitches and shortcuts that take a very long time to master. However, this guy's glitches can be easily performed by just simply mimicking the video. (just be especially careful when he's going up the first mountain to take the picture that goes in the 3rd slot.)

It took me about three and a half hours to follow this 10 minute video, but if you read and follow these tips from the start I am sure you can do it in under or a little above an hour.

*BE SURE TO GET THE MAP FROM THE KESTREL'S AERIE!!!!*
I did not do this because I didn't see him collect the map in the video. It is IMPOSSIBLE to do this without the map, as you'll get stuck in the island to the right of Lyndow. Get the map on your way to the fourth painting. (talk to the guy upstairs and it will cost four Inky caps you'll have to find.)

*He performs a glitch where he only uses two canvases to complete the game. I have not figured out how he does this, so you will need to look out for boards and fabric whilst on your adventure. There should be enough if you combine what's in Nava and what you can get when travelling around the area that you retrieve the map in.*

Also.. If you wish to get the other achievement, do not pick up any of the Black Thistle plant that he does. You'll likely be short on cash after the selling spree anyway, (Because you do need the bike..) Instead, complete the quest that allows you to do art commissions, and do the one that has you take a picture of a depressed person. The person who you need to take a picture of is in Nava and nearby wearing a blue shirt.

If you follow this, I cannot really foresee it taking longer than an hour, but definitely not longer than a mainline quest runthrough.

This is not an achievement guide. If you have not gotten all of the miscellaneous achievements it is highly recommended to follow the walkthrough on TA.
