- It costs 50 salt to get your first backpack upgrade in Chapter 1, and each subsequent upgrade will cost an additional 50 salt (so the last upgrade will cost 400 salt since one upgrade is given free through the story).
- You cannot buy all upgrades at once even if you have the salt for it. The last upgrade is available in Chapter 7.
- If you miss an upgrade in a chapter, you can always get the upgrade in one of the following chapters.
- Chapter 8 has a shop before the boss from a robot called Final Johnny and he is your last chance at getting the upgrades, although you cannot farm salt in this chapter so you'll need to have saved up enough salt by then. I personally got all my upgrades by Chapter 7 and didn't need to worry about this.
- You can easily farm salt in most chapters from Salt Bugs that respawn when you leave and enter the screen. You should be farming lots of salt throughout the game for upgrades, food and ingredients. Even after you unlock everything, you'll probably have to grind an additional 2000-4000 salt in the endgame for tokens to get all pixballs as well as extra pixballs for the true ending in Earth Born. So yeah, grind for salt and don't be afraid to use it.
