The Death Sonar is awarded in "The Vents" level. It is not required to get so you might miss it. You have to save the lone dolphins family. Once you return all of the members, he gives you this as a reward.

I have absolutely no idea how to use it CD. :/ I actually haven't even gotten it.

wtf. I saved the dolphins and got the achievement, but I can't kill anything with my sonar still :/

In The Vents level you will find a dolphin at the start that if you talk to him, he will ask you to find 3 of his missing pod members. Find them, bring them back and the achievement is yours. If your having trouble, the link below is a map that has the mission dolphin marked as a BLACK square and the lost pod members as WHITE squares.(Thank to www.ecco-darksea.com for the maps.)
