Contrary to what the description says, it does not mean attacks made with throwables. "Long-range" is considered with any attack around 0.5 m or longer (1.60 feet in Ameriunits), so it will come with natural progression of the game. To grind it out ASAP, simply use the longer attack as the Samurai with RT (right trigger). To chain this successfully, hold RT until you attack three times, then immediately backstep with B, and repeat until achievement pops.

Just popped this and Dark Materials a few minutes ago and you do, in fact have to use throwables for this. Use the spinning top on a horde or 2 to pop it quickly. Whirlwind talisman might work as well I just first found one after I had already popped it.

I couldn't get this to work with the samurai either. But the Ninja's RT attack did count for me and was how I unlocked this and Dark Materials.
