How to unlock the Shardbearer Radahn achievement in ELDEN RING - Definitive Guide

If you're having immense difficulty with Radahn like I did, do yourself a favor and stop banging your head against the wall and just go Respec. Make sure you have the stats to use the Rotten Breath incantation found at the Dragon Communion church in southern Caelid.

Get a divine seal from the Twin Maiden Husks at Roundtable Hold and equip it to your right hand

Equip Rotten Breath

Walk into Radahn boss fight, summon the first two groups of NPC summons. Dodge his arrow rain on Torrent then summon the third group of summons.

Ride up behind Radahn and cast Rotten Breath till you notice he has the status effect.

Run away and re summon NPCs as needed.

Reapply rot for phase 2 (post meteor attack)

Thank you! Just couldn't get past this one as melee fighter, but this solution definitely works!

Can confirm, the dragon rot breath attack is super effective.

A moment of silence for all the dragons who will have to die for the sake of our Gamerscore.

For melee builds with at least 20 Dex, you can also apply the status Scarlet Rot to do damage over time, without needing the spells, which makes this fight a lot easier.

Prep work:

* You will need to be able to travel up to Altus Plateau.
* Maleigh Marais, Shaded Castle Castellan is an easy to defeat hostile NPC found in the fields west of The Shaded Castle. You can get there just riding all the way through the zone dodging enemies and bosses. This NPC has a guaranteed drop of the Antspur Rapier.
* The rapier has a default passive causing scarlet rot build up. I added the "Bloody Slash" Art of War spec'ed to blood, which also added an additional passive causing blood loss.
*Strengthen the armament if you can spare the stones for a little additional damage, but it's not necessary for the build as scarlet rot and bleed do the work here.

Pre-battle:

* Remove shield and any other weapons besides the rapier. Two hand it.
* Put on your highest physical defense armor. If you do happen to get hit by the boss you will want every small bit of damage reduction.
* For talismans you can either go for HP increases to help stay alive if you get hit or stamina boosts for quick attacks and horse dashing.
* For your physick flask I would recommend the 1 hit bubble (i.e. it mitigates the full damage of 1 hit) and something like the heal over time as you will hopefully be out of direct danger a lot of the time. Use the flask before going through the portal / teleporter.
* You could pop a rune arc for a great rune effect if you can spare it, I didn't personally use one.
* You can't apply grease to weapons with Ashes of War on them so don't bother trying.

The battle:

* Run forward and activate the first group of summon signs. Use the debris to soak the first purple boss arrow.
* Run forward and to the right to the next group of summon signs. You won't make it all the way so watch the boss - when the purple arrow is launched and just about to hit you, a roll will dodge it. It takes a little getting used to as it feels like you're rolling fair too late.
* Activate the group of summons and have the debris soak another arrow.
* Start running left as there should be another summon sign. You will need to dodge purple arrows so always have the camera facing the boss.
* After activating that summon the NPCs might have engaged the boss so no more arrows. However, if not look around for any more summons and run to them whilst dodging. The boss can also do some "standard" arrow attacks that rain down arrows, you can mount up and horse dash away from those. HOWEVER, if the boss starts preparing a purple arrow you must dismount and roll out of the way. It will hit the horse and you if you stay mounted - there is no way to dodge these on horse.
* Once the NPCs engage the boss, you need to mount up and ride into the fight. The aim is to get behind the boss between his legs to start slashing away quickly. Learn the attacks and take a risk when you think it's safe.
* Both the Scarlet Rot and Bleed effects will build up and apply fairly quickly on your quick attacks (e.g. RB button). Bleed will take a massive chunk of HP off (something like 15%) and scarlet rot applies a damage over time doing considerable tick damage.
* The boss can be staggered with continuous attacks and will drop to it's knees. Go to town with attacks here especially if they're just above 50% health. The aim is to do a lot of damage before the boss stands up and teleports away to start phase 2.
* The scarlet rot effect still applies when the boss returns for phase 2. Boss HP should hopefully be low now so ride around re-summoning NPCs and watch as the boss health drops over time.
* If needed you might need to reapply scarlet rot, so repeat the phase 1 process being careful of a few new phase 2 attacks.

Good luck!!!

Radahn can be found in the south of Caelid, more precise at the coast.

I not sure if there a other ways to get there, but I did the following (BIG spoilers ahead):

If there a other ways to get to Radahn let me know in the comments so I can edit my post.

Edit: According to Chronic Killer it seems to be possible to skip this quest line if enough advancement in the story is done. Might be worth it to skip Radahn and come back after some time if you are not interested in the quest line.

If it helps anyone, I did Raya Lucaria Academy after Godrick, and I feel this changes the status of Redmayne Castle.

Don't bother with this until way, way later in your playthrough if you want to actually enjoy the game. This boss will destroy any ideas you may have had about the game being "10 out of 10 best game ever."

What locks it is opening Altus Plateau. I did Raya Lucaria too and it didn't trigger. I went off and did a bunch of stuff including receiving the letter of invitation to Volcano Manor and ascending Ruin-Strewn Precipice, the latter of which seemed to be the trigger for this.

Interesting. Did you do the Academy before Radahn? I did Caelid directly after Stormveil Castle, maybe thats the reason why I had to do the quest.

Optional Boss, however needed to fullfill Ranni's questline and you will need to kill 2 Shardbearer's to enter Leyndell, Royal Capital.

Location: Caelid: Wailing Dunes
Suggested Level Range: 65-75
Damage Types: Standard, Pierce
Weakest To: Pierce, Standard, Slash, Strike, Scarlet Rot
Drops: 70,000 Runes, Remembrance of the Starscourge, Radahn's Great Rune

Radahn's fight is quite different from the rest of the boss fights as you can summon up to 6 NPC phantoms and you are able to ride Torrent in the boss arena. However do not think that these will make the fight a cakewalk as Radahn hits incredibly hard. He rides around on a tiny horse sweeping and arcing his attacks for the first phase. The second phase he augments his attacks with some Gravity powers which will easily OHKO you if you are caught in them. If the NPCs die, they can be resummoned around the arena. Don't bother summoning Patches as he will cower and leave shortly after being summoned.

On approach to Radahn he will fire an arrow into the sky which will have a rain of arrows come down and track you. Run perpendicular to them on Torrent to dodge them. And he will also fire a single Gravity infused arrow at you which can be dodged or use the terrain to block it.

Once you are up close, he will pull out two massive swords and start swinging them at you and the summons. Keep your distance and find areas in his attacks to strike. Once he hits 50% health, he will soar up into the sky. He will be gone for a good 10 seconds, so use this time to heal and resummon any NPCs, however, he will come crashing back down in a glorious fireball - when you hear roaring flames, look up into the sky and ride Torrent perpendicular to him to escape the crash. Now all of his attacks are infused with Gravity magic and he is more aggressive. The new attack is when he summons a bunch of Gravity Rocks and hurls them at you. They curve in an arc towards you and cannot be outrun, carefully time your dodges and he will eventually go down.

Radan is vulnerable to freezing and bleeding.
As soon as you appear in the arena, slowly approach him, dodging arrows and simultaneously calling on everyone you see on the way. As soon as you approach him, he will switch to close combat. There are no tactics here, because he kneads almost non-stop, try to circle under him and deliver 1-2 pokes. If you apply too much pressure, you can stun him and inflict a crit on his head, but you need to do this very quickly, because after 3 seconds he will already come to his senses. At half health, in most cases, he soars into the sky and after some time lands like a meteor, causing damage in a huge direct area. As soon as he takes off, just run and look at the sky, if he flies towards you, then adjust your movement to dodge, although if you have a lot of allies left, he will most likely fly towards them. After defeating him, the first thing he will do is cast 4 huge cobblestones, which will then fly at you, I advise you to kill him faster than this happens. In general, the tactics remain the same, we stand under him and inflict a couple of pokes, just be careful, he will start flying in the purple fog, causing huge damage, and he also does this twice in a row.

The chandelier of war “frost stomp” helped me a lot. We harden the weapon link to it. Using standard tactics, run towards him, dodging his shots and summon all the phantoms along the way. Then the most interesting thing is when the mobs distract the boss’s attention, start spamming frosty stomp. Not only does he receive decent damage from the frost, but he also receives more damage from mobs. 1 mana charge was enough for me to take out the boss.

Radana doesn't have a single attack that hits from behind. Therefore, you can stick to his back while sitting on a horse and hit him in the back; in the second phase the same thing

There are tactics for easily killing the boss. If you are not upgrading a mage, you need to get a Larva Tear (an item that allows you to redistribute experience points from Rennala in Lucaria - (you must kill her first). Larvae can be found even in the early stages of the game. We transfer the character into a mage with faith 23 and witchcraft 15 - the rest can be in throw in wisdom and health. Next, in the Cathedral of the Dragon Sacrament, we exchange the prayer “Rotting of Exikes” for 1 dragon heart. Now we equip the spell and one of the most difficult bosses in the game turns into a joke. Having started the battle, we call on all the phantoms on the way to Redana - as soon as he is distracted. on them - cast Rot twice and jump on the horse and ride into the sunset. The red rot will not disappear from the boss until the second phase (when he falls to the ground like a meteor). Then we simply repeat the first step and you can finally fall into the horizon. summon more phantoms so that the boss is not distracted by you.

The hardest part begins in the second phase of the boss, when he accelerates. If the summoned phantoms of an NPC run out and he focuses on you, it is very difficult to reset the focus, and he causes a huge amount of damage, not allowing you to rest and heal.
The second phase was completed only on a horse, circling away from him and calling on new phantoms to finish him off. It is also convenient to get away from a comet on a horse.
This is the case when it is easier to beat the boss outside of co-op, purely for the sake of being able to maneuver on a horse.

If you play as a mage and have difficulty killing the boss, there is an easy way to kill him with 2 skill casts. To do this, we need the Rotten Breath spell, which can be bought at the dragon altar in the screenshot. In order to use the altar, you need to kill the dragon that guards it.
After appearing in the arena, we call a couple of NPCs, and while the boss is dealing with them, we make the first cast of the skill and wait until his HP bar drops to 50% and he goes into the second stage..
Afterwards, you need to call the remaining NPCs and make the last cast and run from the boss around the map until he rots.
