How to unlock the Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon achievement in ELDEN RING - Definitive Guide

Rennala is the boss hidden within the Academy of Raya Lucaria. She’s a 2 stage fight with lots of fun surprise mechanics.

In stage 1 she primarily bubbles in a shield as her minions pelt you with spells. Some of the minions have a yellow glow, and you must kill 3 of the glowing ones to break the shield. Once broken you have a window of opportunity to do as much damage as possible before she bubbles again. You’ll see drips of fire around the floor which means a chandelier is about to fall and squish you so watch out.

Phase 2 starts with the boss firing a death laser at you so you’ll want to immediately sprint or dodge in 1 direction until she’s done. Throughout the fight at different health intervals she will summon spirit enemies to attack you. First wolves, then a giant, and lastly a dragon. I strongly recommend killing her before she is able to summon the dragon.

During my play through I use a meteor staff and rock sling to dps her down quick.

Good luck and have fun

Some additional info some may find useful or if you'd like to edit into your solution:
+Phase one enemies can also breath fire or make the globes on the edge explode.
+The glowing enemy will throw books at you so you can trace that back to them
+When Rennala gets her bubble back it explodes so don't stay by her when glowing.
---
+There is also a bleed buffed sword wielding enemy she can summon
+Asside from the wolfs who are easy to deal with just ignore the summons, they don't stay long
+Most her magic can be avoided by running to the side. Manage your stamina well.

Definetly the meteor staff with the rock sling even though it takes a bit to cast determined by amount of dex you have but it still claps I mean what’s better than one attack that hits 3 times

I might add that I have found that using ashes to summon is useless during phase 1, since your summon will just attack random minions instead of the correct one/rennala. During phase 2 she's basically the only enemy, so the dumb AI won't have an issue with who to attack.

Also note that during the second phase, some of her attacks can be interrupted.

During an attempt as a cooperator, I was throwing Lightning Spears at her when she started up an attack so that the other two guys who were melee could batter her. Shame the host died just before we killed her. :(

It is incorrect to say the phase one minions must be killed, you only need to hit them to break the shield. I used a Carian Knight’s Sword +4 which did about 80% damage to them, I never stuck around for the second blow. Swift Glintstone Shard probably works just as well if you want a ranged option.

Int based build probably need some extra guidance here. The boss has 80% resistance to Magic so your Glintstone spells will feel like they do nothing, Rock Sling does physical damage and breaks her casting, which is why it’s a premium option combined with Meteor Staff. In phase 1 I used the same sword to melee her. Phase two I summoned Lone Wolf +3 (despite the name you get 3 wolves). I’ve also heard good things about Demi Human Ashes since there’s 5, and Skeletal Militiamen, which are not usually great, but will revive after she targets them with a spell and keep hitting her. It’s worth equipping anti magic gear for this if you’re lower health Int build, Astrologer Robe and a Spell Drake Talisman will negate far more damage than heavy armor. Finally I often use Crimsonburst Crystal Tear in my Flask for fights like this, this will heal the minimal damage you might receive during phase 1 without needing to stop and waste a healing Flask.

Rennala is a two phase boss, in her first phase she doesn't do too much as it is mostly her students that attack you. You will need to look for the student that is glowing and kill them to start breaking the barrier surrounding Rennala. Once you kill three of the students, her barrier will break and this is your time to damage her. After a bit she will do a large magical blast and regain her barrier. Also watch out for the environment as chandeliers will fall, books and other objects will be thrown at you.

Once she is in Phase 2 she will deal entirely Magic damage, and her first opening attack is a large magical beam, roll to the side to avoid it. Once she is at about 50% health she will start summoning Ashes to assist her: wolves, troll knight, bloodhound knight, and a dragon. Depending on what she summons will change what you want to do, the wolves are fast so it is ideal if you take them out, while the other 3 are a bit slow so you can focus on dodging Rennala's attacks until they vanish.

Combat Phase 1 - Look at the maids glowing yellow. As soon as you kill 3-4, the queen falls and can be damaged. WARNING - as soon as she starts casting the shield, run. Also, during the battle, carefully watch the candles falling from above - as soon as they appear, run out of the area.

Battle phase 2 - The Queen starts the battle with a full column of HP and immediately casts a beam. It makes sense to make a sharp strafe towards her and land a couple of hits. Almost immediately she will cast a ball and hide in it for a couple of seconds - RUN, because after that the ball will fall and cause huge AoE damage. At about 50 percent HP, the queen will begin to summon spirits, if there is enough damage, you can score and pour damage on the boss and kill.

Also an additional piece of advice - do not disdain the help of other players. For example, in phase 2, if the queen summons a dragon, you can distract it to yourself and help your party members

It's harder to reach the boss than to defeat it...
The first phase is completed with your eyes closed.
Character level 43 “in agility and life”, wolves +1 and Roger’s rapier +8, in the second phase there is an aggressive style of play with constant pressure and the woman will have time to summon spirits at most once, right before death. For me, she summoned the same wolves, who grappled with mine and let me calmly “poke” the boss.

There is no fire or Marika's wedge in front of the boss arena, you MUST open the shortcut.
The boss has a huge resistance to the magic of stones (about 80%), which makes it almost impossible to kill it with spells, simply because there is not enough mana. Therefore, I recommend that magicians take a rapier with lubricant for bleeding.
In the first phase there is no point in summoning the spirit, it will be of no use, but in the second phase it’s just right. But you can do it alone.
List of boss attacks in the second phase.
Comet Azura – Immediately after the cutscene, the powerful Comet Azura begins charging. To avoid being hit, simply run to the right or left (ignore the size of the flow, the attack's hit box is smaller than it appears). She will also periodically attack with this beam during the main battle.

Doom Stars – Releases homing Lusat pursuit meteorites that stand still for a few seconds and then fly towards the player. There is also a rebound option.

Staff Throw – Rennala will throw her staff like a boomerang at a player if they get too close. May hit twice.

Rotating Staff – Holding your hands in front of you, the staff begins to spin quickly, forming a kind of shield. If you are nearby, you will be damaged. Reminiscent of Ashes of War's Spinning Weapon action.

Large Comet – Creates a larger version of the Comet spell and jumps back.

Pile of Crystals – Swings his staff in front of him, creating several crystals that quickly fly towards the player after a second.

Shattering Crystal – Creates a crystal sphere that will turn into a pile of crystals after a second.

Full Moon - Rennala flies up and turns into the moon. The moon will slowly fly towards the player, and if it touches the ground, it will explode. It's enough to just run to the side.

Summon Spirits – When you remove approximately 50% of your health, Rennala will begin to summon spirits, creating a shockwave around herself at the same time. Spirits last for 5 seconds.
