How to unlock the Shardbearer Rykard achievement in ELDEN RING - Definitive Guide

Rykard is an optional boss that is situated underground beneath Volcano Manor.

There are 2 ways of getting to Rykard:

*The first is simply maneuvering through the manor to get to him on your own, make sure to talk to Tanith to and agree to join her, and she will give you a key to room. From there you can take down a fake wall and proceed on through the manor.

*The second is to follow Tanith's entire questline. An entire walkthrough for that questline can be found here:
Tanith Questline

NOTE: Navigating through the manor, you will eventually end up at a temple within. Here you can defeat Godskin Noble and unlock this achievement:

Now once you get teleported down to the arena, you will want to pick up the Serpent-Hunter Great Spear as soon as you enter. Rykard is a gimmick boss, this whole fight is essentially the Yhorm the Giant fight from Dark Souls 3. Albeit little more cool and slightly more difficult.

Phase 1: God Devouring Serpent is not very difficult. As soon as you enter, run up to him and press LT twice to get in the big swing with the spear, this move does big damage but pretty slow to use. Only use the LT move when you know you have the opening, otherwise use RB to use basic attacks to get some pot shots in there to dwindle down the health bar.

Phase 2: Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy is a little more challenging, but again not too bad as you won't be really changing your strategy from phase 1. This time around he has a sword and will start swinging at you. Again, just make sure you wait for openings to use that LT swing and poke him around with RB.

If you find this too challenging at any point, I recommend using the mimic summon ash. The mimic can draw aggro and will also be using the Serpent-Hunter Great Spear. It is a great tool to use for a lot of the late-game fights that you may find yourself struggling with.

Once the fight is done, the achievement and loot should pop. You can also head back to Volcano Manor to talk to Tanith about slaying Rykard. Head back to the arena and talk to Tanith again, kill her, and then kill the invader to officially wrap up loose ends.

Dear lord, I was struggling with this boss and read to use the Lance. So i leveled it up to +9 and just mashed LB and took both down without even needing to dodge, or bother healing. Just spammed when I realized I was barley taking damage and hitting him for like 5-8% of his health each hit

Keep in mind that LB attack uses FP so have blue flasks if you don't have much. The weapon also has heavy RT attacks and even a running attack. Neat stuff.
Also tips, fire resistant stuff could be useful here, and never stand too close to him since he has aoe around him.
Such a cool fight though, even if it is a gimmick.

Even as a Int stacked mage this fight is infinitely more doable if you just use the spear. The spear has no stat requirements so it’s pretty obvious everyone should use it. I unequipped my other weapons so my mimic wouldn’t waste time casting spells and switched to shield that had No Skill on it so I could still use the spear’s LT (ash of war). The only problem with the spear is if you usually have a lighter set up you’ll be fat rolling for the fight. Honestly it doesn’t much matter. The fight goes so fast with it.

Make sure you block that phase 1 ground eruption (he buries his snake head in the ground) that arc is super wide and hard to dodge. It does an epic crap ton of damage but if you blocked it was way down.

If you’re dead set on using non mimic ash I might suggest Latenna (park her near but then move away from her) or Lhutel, the first for damage the second for being indestructible (Lhutel doesn’t hold aggro very well, be aware).

Make your way up Mt Gelmir until you get to Volcano Manor.

You can then join the gang there and hunt for a few bad Tarnished before you can get to meet Rykard (you can refuse this and fight through the Manor grounds if you don't want to hunt anyone, but that's not what I did).

Once the hunts are done, talk to the lady and she'll transport you to the boss room. Make sure you pick up the serpent spear near the entrance and use that against both stages of the boss.

Pro-tip: To make this way easier, die quickly first time so you can pop out and upgrade the spear (I did it with a +3), and also equip it and spawn the mimic tear summon and it'll use the spear as well.

Enjoy!

Optional Boss, however you will need to kill 2 of the Shardbearer's to enter Leyndell, Royal Capital.

Location: Mt. Gelmir: Volcano Manor
Suggested Level Range: 85-95
Damage Types: Standard, Pierce, Fire
Weakest To: Standard, Slash, Pierce, Frostbite
Drops: 130,000 Runes, Rykard's Great Rune, Remembrance of the Blasphemous

Rykard is a bit of a gimmick fight but he can still pack a punch. Inside the arena is the Serpent-Hunter, which will stagger Rykard occasionally. Because Rykard is so large and attacks are slow, you will want to dodge towards where the attack is coming from as to prevent you from becoming vulnerable again while still in the hitbox. As he is so large and slow, you can pretty much get an attack in after each of his attacks, don't be greedy and keep at it until you make it to the second phase.

In the second phase he will raise his weapon into the air letting out a bunch of flaming skull, you will want to use the Serpent-Hunter's Weapon Art to disrupt this. It takes him a couple seconds to finish the cast, if you don't you will have to deal with skulls raining down from the sky along with Rykard's regular moveset.

If you have the Mimic Tear Ash and equip the Serpent-Hunter it will make the fight much easier as you now basically have 2 players using the Serpent-Hunter on him.

In order for you to be allowed to meet with the boss, you must complete three requests from the Vulcan Estate.

In fact, it is enough to go through a secret passage disguised as a wall in one of the rooms of the volcano estate. After passing through it, you run through narrow corridors and find yourself at the beginning of some village. After running through the entire location, you will find a portal that leads to a cave with a boss.

To make killing the boss easier, use the sword held by the statue on the left at the entrance to the boss's location. (Mechanics similar to killing the giant Yhorm in DS 3)

I killed the boss on the first try. Indeed, the sword that you pick up in a boss fight location does excellent damage to the boss, and I also had the ashes of a false tear pumped up by +10. The two of them beat up the boss in a couple of minutes. He didn't seem to come out of his stupor. I spent 2 cans of HP in this battle.

The boss can be knocked down with strong attacks, but he cannot land a critical hit. While he is lying down, I recommend doing as much damage as possible with charged strong attacks. There's also a pretty nasty moment in the second phase when Rickard starts spamming homing skulls. At this time, I advise you to try to dodge and practically not attack the boss, because there is a high risk of not noticing several skulls and flying off onto the fire. Also, after his attack with the skulls, he strikes with a sword, which can easily one-shot. Here it is better to try to run behind the boss or just to the side, because the attack is vertical. Also, just in case, I’ll write, because I only found out about it after 6-7 trains, - the l2 attack can be pressed twice, thereby the hero will make two attacks, where the main damage is dealt by the second one.

The simplest tactic is to hit him while standing close. The lava does almost no damage, and Rickard's attacks miss in most cases. It's better to hit with a quick attack , because in lava the character constantly twitches and the charging attack is interrupted. In addition, a quick attack does not consume OK.
