How to unlock the Lone Wolf achievement in Empire of Sin - Definitive Guide

This achievement is more cumbersome than difficult.

Empire of SinBulletproofThe Bulletproof achievement in Empire of Sin worth 279 pointsFinish the game without getting anyone in your crew killed

You need to win a game without anyone else in your crew. In other words, it's a true solo playthrough,. You can build rackets, take them over, upgrade them, etc. You will have to kill every other boss. For your convenience, don't try it at your first playthrough, you need to understand how to control your character to do this.

Although you can try to do this with every boss, I'd recommend someone who is pure ranged character. I limited it to the following options:

Angelo Genna - useful, but low range
Goldie Garneau - ignores defence, at least 3 kills at the usage
Sai Wing Mock - deadly, for you too.
Dion O'Banion - dangerous shotgun, low radius. Extremely situational (clustered enemies or single target) to be useful.
Daniel McKee Jackson - can wipe out entire party but his revolvers are low range
Mabel Ryley - great skill but mediocre initial stats. Requires a bit of finesse to be devastating.

I chose Goldie Garneau.

Make your game 6 neighbourhoods, 6 enemy factions, difficulty Associate (lowest).

TL:DR

Skill path: Killer Queen ->Light Footed -> Heal -> Cold Efficiency/Revenge -> Kill Chain (very important!)

Equipment: The Brooklyn Handshake + Bear Rounds, Golden Service Revolver/unique pistol + High Impact Rounds, Epic/Unique melee, Gun Maintenance Toolkit, Painkillers, at least rare healing kit.

Skip the tutorial.

#####################################################.

Your first story mission is actually quite hard. You can deal with thugs outside peacefully but you won't evade the fight inside. I'd recommend you to leave it for a while and come back when you are stronger. Your signature skill is devastating as it pierces each target in line and small squares adjusting it. In other words, you can get 5 kills using one turn. The damage + crit is also sufficient to kill everything but 100+ HP guards (of course if they are not crit).

Start by exploring the map. Find all enemies on your neighbourhood. If any of them is Alphonse Capone or Angelo Genna, you are set up. Restart if they're not in your game. Buy any alcohole from anyone, the more the better. Make sure not to pay too much. Find a minor gang and start trade with them. Sell every barrel of alcohole and disguise them as whiskey.

Once you have $10,000, buy The Brooklyn Handshake from Capone. You should also farm more money to buy each unique weapon from each boss to make them all weaker.

Patched and no longer works. Frankly, money shouldn't really matter in this playthrough. You can use it to upgrade security or anything for income in your rackets or just leave them at default.

Go for small and medium rackets and kill everyone with your machine gun and signature skill. You can go for a large too but it's not that proficient as you won't have enough customers. However, it has more guards. It's doable from the start but quite hard. Once you have 5 speakeasies, 2 casinos, 2 brothels and hotel you are good to go. Scan the map, look for grups of thugs. Every one has a chest, the more thugs, the better the chest (usually). 5 thugs should grant you the best chests, including unique weapons, boost to police relations (useful for all the fights as you won't have to kill police), 50,000 or hire everyone regardless of your notoriety. However, we are interested in at least epic weapons and equipment. If you get epic M1917 Enfield or Model 8 rifle, start using it instead of your machine gun.

If you have the rifle, your fight should look as follows. The rifle attack ends your turn. Either double attack with your revolver or move, then attack with the rifle to finish the turn. My pistol was good enough for everything until 45 HP, late game 60. Rifle + pistol combo is useful for thugs encounter as it lets you get rid of them quickly. As soon as you get 125 kills with sniper rifle (5 perks, cyan colour), stop using the weapon as you can't get more perks and switch it to your machine gun. Make sure you have 125 kills with machine gun before you start killing bosses. Weapon proficiency will give you more crits and more damage and this will boost your main attack (machine gun) as well as your signature skill (sniper rifle).

If you are injured after fight and have Heal ability, press B, heal yourself and press B again. Do it again if you need more health.

Each neighbourhood has groups of thugs, kill them to ensure you secure everything valueable in the game. As a bonus, you'll get more notoriety and weapon perks so you'll start to become insanely overpowered. Check black market for bullets and gun toolkit, if you see them, buy them.

As you don't have a crew and your empire is quite weak, you'll be frequently attacked (that's why I wrote it's cumbersome, at war you'll find yourself running from one attacking group to the other). Make sure to help your guards and kill groups of enemies as it would help you get even more notoriety.

Once you get your chain kill you can go and kill bosses easily. Start with Capone/Genna in order to get their unique machine gun. Ignore everything and go straight to their safehouse. Kill the guards in front of it and enter it. Start a kill chain on the weakest enemy, then move to the next ones. You'll get 4 kills (with machine gun), even though you have 2 bullets at 4th kill, you will fire 6 bullets. Reload and continue killing everything. Finally your turn would end, leaving boss (if they are still alive) and 2-3 guards. Let them go closer and finish this up. Because of your insane marksmanship, your hit chance is 100% and your hits will be almost all crits. You can unleash up to 500 damage at one go, over 200 for the boss which is enough to kill them at one go.

After you kill Capone, make sure you equip The Brooklyn Handshake, same if you killed Genna, equip Sicilian Kiss.

Once the first boss falls, hunt the rest and finish the mission. Save before each encounter so you'll have a backup if you make any mistakes.

Changelog:

22/03/2021 - couple strategies have been patched. You can no longer buy alcohole from factions to sell it for massive profit to minor factions. Rifle + pistol combo has also been patched, now both of those actions end your turn. Make sure to use as much movement as you need before you start using 1 AP actions.
28/03/2021 - RIP buying uniques from rivals.

Currently trying this on Elvira Duerta and have 2 bosses left but I do NOT recommend it. Her mind control ability counts as a negative status effect and can be easily removed by a handful of different healing items enemies use. Other bosses also resist the effect most of the time.

One tip though, you can actually take over an enemy empire by killing only their boss if you finish them off and quickly escape. You'll lose whatever loot you would have had and you'll be sent to your safehouse but you'll instantly get their whole empire. This helped me out a few times when I didn't have the firepower to take out the entire safehouse room.

I jist unlocked this on my first attempt using Dean O'Bannion. But wasn't having much luck with any shotgun. So I swapped to the Gold Tommy gun from the store. And the rest is history. Kill chain was absolutely critical, along with the bleeding from the smg abilities and using the self heal he unlocks from his own tiers, it was just a case of re-trying the big fights until I get it. The Blasthemy round that destroys all armour was also critical in killing bosses, they have no armour and die as quickly as the rest. Leave the panicking ones to run for the exit which solved themselves.

The biggest pain was holding onto my rackets, so I only concentrated on security every single upgrade.

It used to be far more annoying with you fighting every single battle. Now there's this auto-fight battle so you don't waste so much time in those stupid guards vs guards battles. Then you can run with your character and wipe everything out using your superior boss.

Anyway, glad it was needed. I'll have to verify if golden machine gun appears in the rotation as this should be superior to SMG.

Just wanted to add this for peace of mind. Fighting a battle with your own guards or an allows guards will NOT void the achievement. Same with Bulletproof. It is strictly for recruited gangsters

Thanks, I amended the solution. I actually saw it few days ago and have already changed it in WT but I forgot that it was included here too.

Honestly, it doesn't really matter. I just don't want people to be on the same neighborhood but, I did finish with Mabel and Capone in my starting. Perhaps it's a coincidence. More hoods = more thugs = more boxes. Less hoods doesn't give any significant advantage as you can just move by taxies.

So I’m on my second play through and trying this with Goldie, but I don’t get what you mean when you talk about the weapon proficiency colours and levels? Where do I see those on the character screen?

I'm kinda lost what is meant with boxes or chests from thugs? I've killed loads of groups in alleyways and regular buildings but I never see any loot on the floor?

There are different boxes (they look like two boxes on each other) which are glowing, they only appear in alleyways. If you press A next to them, you can loot them and get some stuff from inside. Usually the bigger the thugs group, the better the loot. Not every single group has them, though.

Also one box per group. I haven't seen more.

1.05 update literally turned the achvments into a 5 to 8 hour grind session for EACH of the boss win conditions. I love game, but it really is way too Grundy as of 1.05. With the accounting glitch in 1.04 gone.... We now have to keep 20 30 rackets for normal play. They are constantly attacked too. Maybe they should allow easy games with 2 or 3 faction bosses instead of minimum 6.

Does this guide take into account the amount of kills required between each use of a bosses power? I think it is 8-10 kills.

Also how do you go straight for a safe house? You have to take most their businesses before it reveals the safe house.

Not to mention the enemies don't run away when you kill the boss anymore. They keep coming after you.

^ Yeah the latest update changed a ton of stuff, everything is much tougher than it already was and some helpful tricks have been patched. Like finding a safehouse isn't easy like it was before, you really need to take out 9/10 Rackets before the Safehouse shows up

Unfortunately this is quite common for all the games under Paradox. All strategies that are solid at the beginning are either going to be patched or made much harder to execute. I haven't played the game since 1.05 but I'll check out if you still have the kill chain at the very beginning. I actually decided to kill all mobs inside boss fights because the rival boss was usually the last person I was going to kill (usually they were hidden in one of the rooms at the back).

The strategy still works. I asked those questions before trying but for the most part it worked great. The enemies only run for 3 turns and most won't reach an exit so you have to kill them but you can follow the majority of this guide to easily get the achievement. Despite the update this guide still works!

But I must say I beat the 6 enemy bosses long before I got kill chain. I don't know if it is needed but if someone is having a hard time you can always prolong the game to get this move.

Use Goldie, buy the Golden Tommy Gun. Use cn_B to initiate combat with unsuspecting enemies, this gets you an additional shot before they can attack. After 45 kills you should be able to hit people from a long distance (notoriety helps too). Use her power on a boss for 3 quick hits that kill them. Use healing items that heal every round for 3 rounds. I only had to replay a few fights. You definitely need to take over most of their territory before you can fight the bosses.

Also, you can attack a boss and kill some of their units. Retreat, heal, come back and finish the fight against less units. I did this on the final fight but I have the ach preloaded for next years gtasc

Found an issue. I killed Genna and Capone in the same game. Neither of them dropped any loot.

Got the achievement. All the other bosses dropped weapons. Could be they were dead and not bleeding out.

I had all but 2 of the bosses killed before I unlocked my 4th ability. Never got close to the last ability.

For Goldie kills with her ability count towards sniper rifles. If you buff your SR it buffs her ability

Really easy way to cheese this. Use Goldie Garneau
1. Buy golden tommy gun
2. Have Killer Queen ready to use
3. enter Boss battle and use all 3 shots on them, kill them when they are down and retreat. This will turn their Precinct to thugs for quick clearing and count for them being cleared out.
4. Do this for all 6 bosses and you win. FYI you do not get loot if you kill them this way and retreat but you dont really need it.

Great guide, thumbs up! Goldie is a beast. Just curious, why pick 6 neighborhoods instead of 3 or 10? I would think with less neighborhoods you could find people faster and finish the game quicker.

Goldie was definitely easy to do this with once you learn how to use her. Follow the guide. I always found the speakeasy boss battles to be the more challenging the later in the game especially when their thugs are 100+ health as you can no longer chain most of the kills easily. The brothel boss battles were pretty easy as the boss stays further away in my experience. I also was able to buy purple weapons off enemies as long as you stayed neutral with them. Once you went to enemies it no longer was possible. I took all the good weapons I could to try to make it easier.

Ive not got this yet (one last boss to kill) but use Goldie Garneau. I used the above as my guide.
Her special sniper kill you can use on the SAME TARGET three times. Its enough damage to put a boss down in most cases. Worst case you kill them next turn with the kill chain skill.
In a boss battle, Turn 1, run to the enemy boss but take the best cover you can. Turn 2, kill the boss. The lesser thugs will panic and most will run and flee. Use your heal skill and then kill chain to finish everyone else off.
Dont be afraid to run with all your action points to a new position so you don't get flanked by more than one enemy. You are faster than they are and it gives you a free turn in the next round to mow any stragglers down

Unfortunately, what was said about guns in this guide is no longer usable. Sniper rifles + machine guns take 2AP to shoot which makes them unusable, since you need to keep moving to avoid being swarmed and destroyed. At the start, buy Golden Tommy Gun from Black Market. It will be 1 hit kill on enemies under 100HP. The game was a breeze from the beginning to end.

I found a better gun, from Vice King boss - Daniel McKee Jackson. Sub-Machine, worse stats than Golden Tommy Gun, but 100% chance for bleed perk. This is a game changer. You can shoot at somebody just once and if you don't kill them, the bleeding will take care of it and you can focus on other enemies.

After you kill a boss in his safehouse, you can just retreat and his empire will be yours. No need to mop up the rest of the enemies.

This can be done without even going to war with another faction, so the annoying boss fights can be skipped.

First start a game with Sai Wing Mock, then choose the lowest options for neighborhoods, enemies, and difficulty. Once in game go to the black market to buy a submachine gun and a combat related trinket. The best one for us is the stethoscope for more defense and hp. Start taking over precincts. Try to take over as much as you can in your starting neighborhood.

Use small rackets to charge up your bomb power. Most thug controlled small rackets only have three enemies. Stay in full cover as much and possible, move if needed to have as few enemies targeting you while still being able to kill one enemy every turn. Most small rackets can be taken out with zero to two hits received. Large rackets and depots can be taken easily with your bombs. Either on the first turn or second if they aren't grouped together well, use your bombs to do damage and poison killing most on their turn.

When your low on health or money, start going to other neighborhoods to discover the other factions. You can find which areas are major factions by going to the grey areas on the map and the precinct with the question mark by the precinct number is where you should go.

Once you have all factions discovered find the two in diplomacy with the highest rating and lowest threat and make them a business partner. You may have to trade your unused loot for a single dollar to get a massive boost in faction rating. Once your in a business arrangement and you rating with them is high ask for the kill someone favor. Ask both of them to kill every leader not aligned with you. You can ask multiple time to get them go after all the leaders at the same time.

While waiting for you partners to kill the other leaders keep taking over thug controlled precincts and get cash flowing. Make sure to have lots of rackets and alcohol production, we need to have the highest strength on the faction leaderboard.

Keep checking the diplomacy screen to see if you can get either of your business partners into accepting your protection. You want at least one of them to accept. Get the one under your protection to kill the other using favors or if the both are under your protection keep sending them at each other. Once the requirements are meet after protecting them for so long you can buy them out, and since no money was used on gangster upkeep you can buy them out of the city for a relatively combat free win.

Okay, just got this and was helped a lot by Mikasz's guide on TA but there's been some patches since then so here's my updated experience. It's a long guide but this is a trophy you have to work for.

First off, don't do this your first playthrough. You want to have a good handle on how everything works, especially combat. If you're doing all trophies you have to get

Associate difficulty with Goldie Garneau. She has good marksmanship to start, a very good unique skill, and draws less aggro from other bosses.

Setup I used was 6 bosses and 6 neighborhoods. For bosses that's the minimum; you can have fewer neighborhoods but then it can get pretty friction-y between gangs earlier than usual, which doesn't really help for this trophy.

You need to skip part of the tutorial (I think you can just skip the whole thing) since it wants you to hire a couple of gangsters.

You want to keep a fairly small empire of rackets, but upgrade them as much as possible, especially security. Any racket with 4/5 security is pretty much totally safe from attacks. Since you're not hiring any gangsters, your costs are quite low so you should be able to upgrade your buildings a lot. When you attack a building, if you're already at a good income ($5k/week or more) it can be better to just ransack and take a bit more money without having to spend any or add threat to other bosses.

Maybe the most important thing is to save up money ($20,000) as early as possible to buy the Golden Tommy Gun from the black market dealer. I used this gun the entire game, it's fantastic. You want to get as many kills as possible to max out the SMG skills, so run around and kill any thugs you see on the street, ransack buildings (more on this later), etc. When you have the final proficiency skill Hit & Run, you should be able to run out of cover, get a kill with a single burst attack, then run back into cover and stay safe. Repeat that as much as possible, kiting around the maps. Some maps are much easier than others to do this on - luckily most of the boss maps have walls in the middle so you can maneuver yourself into pretty safe positions.

I can't overstate how important increasing your marksmanship is, by leveling up notoriety, getting a good gun, and getting those SMG proficiency skills. At max level I was getting 120-190 damage per burst shot, with 90-100% accuracy at max distance, even through full cover, even through walls, even 75% or higher accuracy while being affected by Suppressing Fire. Every basic enemy is killed in one attack, and some of the tough ones can be if you're a little lucky. Bosses and Underbosses are killed in 2 hits.

Since you don't have any other gangsters to equip, make sure you're selling your excess weapons and items to the black market. It doesn't really matter what handgun or melee weapon you use, the Golden Tommy Gun will be there for you at any range. I like using Anvil Rounds (+10 damage) but Bear Rounds (+10 crit damage) might be better - High Impact or Sure Shot Rounds are also good earlier on when your marksmanship isn't maxed out already. For your other item slots, Gun Maintenance Toolkit is incredible if you want to lean into a glass-cannon-y build, but I found by the lategame (700+ notoriety) I didn't need the extra marksmanship as much as I wanted some armor just to be safe, so I wore the best armor I could find. After that load up on healing items - Medic's Kit is the best, plus Health Tonic. You shouldn't need to use healing items very often but if you do remember to re-equip a new one after the fight.

Skills - you start with Killer Queen, which is great. It takes 10 kills to charge it, so you want to save it for bosses or if you're really in trouble somehow. X to confirm a target, L1 to cycle through available targets. You can put all 3 shots into one target, which is the easiest way to kill a boss.
After that, choose:
Light-Footed (obvious, the other skills do nothing in a solo game)
Heal (you can Heal yourself then shoot in the same turn)
Cold Efficiency (Revenge seems like it would be better, but in my experience it's bugged and has no effect)
Kill Chain (But this doesn't really matter, you should finish well before Kill Chain unlocks, I had 350+ days left)

The general strategy is to get a small empire, do the boss-specific questline, use the money to buy the Golden Tommy Gun, explore and find all the bosses, get as many SMG kills as possible by ransacking buildings in other neighborhoods (it lowers the prosperity = earnings for the neighborhood), then start taking out bosses.

When starting fights outside (for non-derelict rackets there's always the outside guards), make it easier by ambushing - approach the guards, then before they start combat hit O to enter combat and get a free hit in. You should be able to take out 2 guards before they can even do anything.

I wouldn't recommend going after any bosses or even attacking any medium (2/5 difficulty) derelict buildings until you're over 400 notoriety, maybe 500. You can get an idea of which neighborhood a boss's safehouse will be in by where they have the most rackets, so just ransack as many of their home-neighborhood rackets to find the safehouse and then take it. You don't need to rush though - taking your time to gain notoriety and learn your skills, this will also make safehouses quicker to find. At max levels you should be able to clear the whole safehouse yourself with little danger, but the first couple you do it's good to know that you just need to kill the boss and then escape - note that leaving them bleeding but not dead yet isn't good enough.

Honestly once I had the above setup figured out, I didn't find this trophy to be very difficult, but it would be really tough to do playing a "normal" strategy. I finished the game Oct 12, 1921 - see if you can do it faster, it's definitely possible! If anyone tries this out and has any questions, problems or improvements let me know.

Easily done when playing as Goldie Garnier. From the start, she has the “Killer Queen” skill, which gives a boost to critical damage and a guarantee of hitting 3 opponents at once. In combination with a powerful sniper, it allows you to take out 3 strong opponents at the beginning of the battle. As you play, we upgrade your character’s immunity to observation, the ability to restore 60 units of health, the chance for an additional shot in observation mode, and the last skill you can choose to your taste, but I recommend “Shoot at all”, because with it you can destroy another 3-5 opponents in one turn. Plus, when using a sniper, you will improve your ability to ignore enemy cover and shoot with almost 100% accuracy. This is a real killing machine capable of single-handedly destroying a group of 15-16 strong fighters including the boss.
Next, select the easiest difficulty level, the minimum number of districts and factions, buy a first aid kit, a grenade, a rifle and go straight to the bosses.
Also a small lifecycle that saves time. In order to find the boss’s hideout, you don’t have to capture his establishments, everything is much simpler. When you hover over any active building and press Y, you will be shown information about it even if you don't know what's there. Therefore, just go around the entire location and press Y on all the empty buildings, sooner or later a window will appear in which it will be written that this is a shelter of one faction or another. As a rule, it is somewhere between the existing establishments of the character you need. Because the game believes that you do not yet know about the location of the shelter, guards will not spawn next to it, we just approach, declare war and attack through a strategic approach.

There is no need to kill anyone (except bandits). You won't have gangsters, which means a lot of money. By the end of the year I was making 80k a week. Second year 250k. There must be a boxing club in every district, this affects your power, + protection of clubs. We sell excess weapons not on the black market, but to other mafiosi to increase their ratings. You can just give money, there’s still a lot of it. In general, we improve relations by 300+, offer protection (you have a lot of power due to the protection of clubs), we buy it out in 3 months. No more than 3 defenses are allowed. So in two years you can easily manage it without stress. The main defense should be for money; a free union is not suitable. And most importantly, don’t attack anyone and don’t get involved in wars. If your client gets involved in a war, refuse to support him. Then call both factions to negotiate an end to the war, offer both 2000, they will agree. And we also need to make sure that the defendants have money; when the money runs out, they refuse protection, and the term is reset to zero.

My version of the passage.
We take Goldie and from the start we buy a golden Thompson and, if there is armor + a first aid kit, we aggressively capture our area. Bosses at the initial stage can easily be taken out without problems (at the starting area). Our next step is to collect cash as we will buy the businesses of our enemies. At the first meeting with them there are always negotiations and a deal. After that, we sit only in our area and wait for offers from our enemies for protection. We agree that in the final version there will be one boss who will have to fight since he will not feel threatened and will not ask us for protection. The most important thing is the pumped up skill in using a gold tomigan deals 90-160. To improve your skill, fight the bandits after purchasing all the businesses, this can be done calmly. I finished the game at age 22. With revenue of 120+k
