Kills are the key for this, try racking up as many kills as you can in the match and you shouldn't have much problem getting to first place.
Planes are broken OP in this game, so try them if you're good at it. I've also heard tanks are pretty good and far easy to use. Infantry is the way i did it and it's definitely very doable.
Capturing points unfortunately, don't give as much score as they should. I'm not saying you should avoid them, but they definitely shouldn't be you main focus for this achivevement.

Also, it helps a lot to turn off crossplay. Once i did that, I got the achievement first game, after trying for hours.

ugh I cant get this no matter what I do. I keep getting 2nd on my team. Do you need top on your team or top in the game?
I just got 123 kills just buy normal shooting. No tanks or planes. I tried the tank and found it very hard to get kills. I had 123 kills (2nd place with 4350 score) and the 1st place guy on my team had 109 kills. I had the most kills in the entire game. First place on the opposite team had 114 kills, but had 6360 score. I just don have any idea how they are getting score that big... Kills dont seem to be the key here. Bonuses of some sort seem to be. Been really struggling to get this. Ive got cross play off too. :/
