How to unlock the Paint Outside the Box achievement in Escape Academy - Definitive Guide
This is the quick-and-dirty speedthrough:
- In the studio to the left, there is a door with a color lock. From top to bottom it is "red, purple, yellow, green". Get the spray paint out of the center cabinet.
- The other door in the studio is locked with directional keys. The answer is "right, left, right, up, down, down".
- Inside this room is a safe. The buttons are blank, but if we pretend they're numbered left to right, top to bottom, as normal, then the answer is "4, 6, 7". Take the strange sculpture out.
- On the other side of the courtyard, add the sculpture to the face door to act as his nose. Then adjust his face: both eyebrows tilted up like this //, both eyes looking down like this \\, and the mouth closed by one step (so halfway open). Then knock.
- Inside, grab the keys from the pedestals, then use them on the right hand door. Turn the heads so that they face "left, right, left, right". Get the keys from the door behind them.
- Use the 7 and 3 keys on the center door. Knock back the heads of statues 1, 3, and 5. Get the key from the door behind them.
- Use the last keys on the left door. Arrange the busts, left to right, as "plain girl, glasses guy, glasses girl, baldy guy, hat guy".
- Follow the path and use the spray paint on the wall of names.
--------------------------------------
The Escapist Times in this room is in the office behind the color code lock, on the desk.

This is a guide to the actual puzzles:
STRIP PAINTING
- SOLUTION: You should arrange the strips so that the girls are facing away from each other, and Slip's signature is in the lower left.
LOCKER COMBINATION
- In the middle locker is a bunch of bananas.
- At the drawing stations in the middle of the room, you will find a bottle of wine and a piece of cheese.
- CLUE: At the back of the room is a guide to art: "Wine, cheese, bananas, wait".
- Put the three items on the table in the middle of the drawing stations to form a still life arrangement.
- CLUE: There is a note on one of the drawing stations that says "look for the truth behind the still life".
- SOLUTION: The numbers are written on the back of the still life arrangement: 139
ARROW KEY DOOR
- In the far back locker in the studio, there is a painting.
- Use the painting in the frame device at the front right of the studio, using the STRIP PAINTING solution, to reveal the code.
- SOLUTION: right, left, right, up, down, down
COLOR CODE DOOR
- Using the LOCKER COMBINATION solution, retrieve an invisible paint revealer from the front locker, and use it on the wall beside the door.
- A tangled mess of lines lead from the locks to circles of color on the next wall. Any that split off are a combination of both end colors (red + blue = purple, etc).
- SOLUTION: red, purple, yellow, green (top to bottom)
BLANK SAFE
- Using the scanner on the right, you can see invisible writing on the blank canvases. The first three show you a fountain, cube statue, and giant keyhole statue.
- The fourth blank canvas shows which symbols correspond to which blank buttons on the safe.
- The statues on the first three canvases, outside in the yard, have symbols painted on them. They are an empty square, an empty circle, and three dots.
- The symbols on the guide canvas show which symbols to use by having light backgrounds. The first three canvases show which order.
- SOLUTION: middle left, middle right, bottom left.
FACE DOOR
- Using the BLANK SAFE solution, take the strange sculpture out of the safe and use it as the face door's nose.
- The pieces of the face (eyebrows, eyes, and mouth) can be adjusted independently.
- CLUE: There is a note in the safe saying "face him and knock".
- CLUE: There is a picture in the safe of the classic optical illusion of vase / faces.
- CLUE: There are four different faces on vaselike pedestals on either side of the face door, and the vase pedestals are not all shaped the same.
- Use the pieces of the faces from each of the properly-shaped vases (each has only one viable part) to adjust the face parts of the door, then knock.
- SOLUTION: Eyebrows both tilted up to the right, eyes both tilted down to the right, mouth half open.
PAINTING STATUE ROOMS
- The clue to all the rooms are in the paintings arranged on the wall around the door to that room.
- All rooms are opened by the numbers of the keys used adding up to the number painted on them.
- You have to start with the right-most room.
RIGHT ROOM (7)
- The busts should face the same direction they are facing in their portrait silhouettes.
- SOLUTION: left, right, left, right
MIDDLE ROOM (10)
- The busts of the people who have been beheaded in the paintings should be broken.
- SOLUTION: 1, 3, 5
LEFT ROOM (5)
- The busts should be arranged by height of the subject, which you can determine by comparing their positions in the paintings.
- SOLUTION: plain girl, glasses guy, glasses girl, bald guy, hat guy

This is story related and cannot be missed.
This escape room unlocks once you have completed ‘The Entrance Exam’. In the upper-left (10 o’clock) position of the map, click on ‘The Hall of Escapists’. You have 30 minutes to complete this escape room.
From the start, walk forward and enter the building on the left. On the left is a door with an arrow keypad. Enter Right, Left, Right, Up, Down, Down to open it. Walk to the safe in the far left corner and press the buttons in this order: middle left, middle right, bottom left (if the buttons were numbered left to right: top row 1-3, middle row 4-6, bottom row 7-9, the code would be 4, 6, 7). Pick up the strange sculpture and return to the previous room.
Facing the same direction as the arrow keypad is a door with four vertical colors. To open the door, from top to bottom, select: Red Triangle, Purple Diamond, Yellow Pentagon, Green Circle. Walk into the office and on the desk is the next newspaper [3/10]. Turn right and open the locker and take the spray paint then return to the previous room and exit the building.
Walk up to the door to the building across the path and inspect the door. You will need to place the strange sculpture on the face (it’s the nose). When that’s done, position the eyebrows, eyes and mouth like in the image below then use the nose to knock on the door.
On the pedestals in front of you, pick up both keys (#2 and #5). Turn right and use both keys to open the gate. In front of you are four sculptures. Position the heads so they are facing Left, Right, Left, Right. The door behind the statues will open to reveal three more keys (#3, #4, #7).
After taking the keys, exit the room and walk up to the gate on your right. Use the #3 and #7 keys to open the gate. There will be six statues in this room. Smash the first one (Timmy), the third one (Michelle) and the fifth one (Windsor). The door behind the statues will open to reveal one key (#1).
Take the key and exit this room. On your right is the final gate. Use the #1 and #4 keys to open the gate. There are five statues in front of you. The way this puzzle works is you select one statue then a second and they swap positions. Position the statues in the order shown in the image below.
When the door opens, walk up the stairs and follow the path to the wall of names. Inspect the wall then tag it with the spray paint to unlock the achievement.
