Legendary items are rare and extremely powerful pieces of equipment that only drop inside an Ancient Rift or from enemies in Nightmare Difficulty.
Nightmare is only available after you beat the campaign.

For the purpose of unlocking achievements, there's no reason to play on any difficulty other than VERY EASY, correct?
This game is about exploring, doing missions and inventory maintenance, not space flight battle techniques.
